Twitter Now Lets You Tag People in Photos – You Can Add 4 Photos to Each Tweet

Twitter is getting a little more photo-happy, adding the ability to tag up to 10 Twitter users in an image.

If you’re not keen on the idea of being tagged in OPTs (other people’s tweets – feel free to use it in casual conversation), you’re able to toggle your tagability under your account settings. Tagging someone in an image doesn’t count against your 140-character message limit, either.

And finally, you can now add multiple images to a tweet – up to four at a time. The feature is only available on the iPhone right now, but it’ll roll out to the Android app and to Twitter.com in the not too distant future. Twitter points out that you’ll be able to view multiple-image tweets on any platform, though.

Source code for MS-DOS and Word released

Computing museum granted access to two of Microsoft's software landmarks.

Ever wondered what the insides of Microsoft's operating systems look like? Now's your chance, as Microsoft has released the source code for both MS-DOS and the original Word for Windows.

Both have been released to the Computer History Museum, in a bid to help scholars understand how those iconic pieces of software were built. "We think preserving historic source code such as these two programs is key to understanding how software has evolved from primitive roots to become a crucial part of our civilisation," said Len Shustek, chairman of the museum.

Microsoft has made the source code of two versions of MS-DOS available: MS-DOS v1.1 and MS-DOS 2.0. MS-DOS 1.1 has less than 300KB of source code, reflecting the limited hardware it was designed to run on in the early 1980s.

The source code for Word for Windows - first released in 1989 - can be downloaded here.

Both sets of source code are released for non-commercial use, although anyone hoping to build a business out of two pieces of software from the 1980s should probably have a rethink, anyway.

The Computer History Museum has the source code for several other landmark pieces of software, including the first version of Photoshop and Apple II DOS.

TECH: Now you can attach a Computer to your ears???? OMG

A new kind of wearable computer has been created that immediately evokes images of the ear-mounted PC worn by Joaquin Phoenix in the recent filmHer.
Created by Hiroshima City University staffer Kazuhiro Taniguchi, the prototype device's interface uses infrared waves to detect when the wearer opens and
closes his mouth. Those movements send corresponding command signals back to the device. Conceivably, apps
could be created for the device that would let you do things like fetch traffic information or get directions by turning your head or biting down. Taniguchi, who calls the Bluetooth device an Ear
Switch, also embedded the formfitting earpiece with a compass, barometer, a speaker and microphone, gyro- sensors, a battery and GPS functions.

NEW DISCOVERY FROM MIT STUDENTS

A lubricant called LiquiGlide, developed initially at MIT, is the potential savior for all those frustrated by bottles of ketchup, shampoo, lotion, and everything else where there's always something left behind.

It's always hard to get the last bit of sorbet out of the bottle. You leave it upside down, hoping that the soap will all come out smoothly during the next shower. Then the plastic seems to crinkle a little too much. Then you squeeze and still there's soap left over.

This has been going on ever since the days of glass bottles of ketchup and mayo. What this problem clearly needed was some large heads at MIT.

Thankfully, the egg-headers finally got onto it and created LiquiGlide. Initially, they focused on getting the ketchup out. Now Dave Smith, the clever man behind the idea, has left MIT and turned LiquiGlide into a company that will ease your frustrations more powerfully than Diazepam.

Surely you, too, have tried to pump away at a soap or toothpaste receptacle and somehow the pump never quite manages either to work or to get the final amounts of liquid up to the top.

The LiquidGlide coating has to be manipulated, depending on the substance inside the container and the substance from which the container is made.

However, given that all its ingredients are reportedly FDA approved, the range of its potential uses -- both consumer and industrial -- seems limitless.

I know you'll tell me Heinz has made upside-down bottles that now make it easier to get the ketchup out. But even with those I find myself shaking out the last drops. And I have to unscrew the top, too.

Shaking a bottle like a demented craps player shaking the dice just isn't a good look, is it? Even if you smell like Keira Knightley.

TECH REVIEW: iPhone 5S vs Sony Xperia Z1

(c) phoneReview

The Apple iPhone 5S released last year to the usual blaze of publicity and just a few days ago Sony announced a mini version of the flagship Xperia Z1, this time dubbed the Xperia Z1 Compact. Although it’s a mini version of a larger device, the Xperia Z1 is still larger than the iPhone 5S and today we have a video to show of the iPhone 5S vs. Sony Xperia Z1 Compact and an initial comparison.

It says something about Apple iPhones at the moment that a mini edition of an Android smartphone still has a larger display than that of the iPhone 5S. Of course not everybody wants a massive screen, and as the display of the Xperia Z1 Compact at 4.3-inches is not much bigger than the 4-inch display of the iPhone 5S, these phones could be good competition against each other.

If you are open-minded about the choice between Apple’s iOS and the Android operating system there’s a chance you might be choosing between these two devices. The Xperia Z1 Compact release date has not yet been confirmed, but it’s expected to arrive in Q1 so it might be here very soon.

Another thing to remember is that although the Xperia Z1 Compact is a mini Z1 it still has virtually all of the same top-notch specs of its larger sibling. The 2-minute YouTube video below was take at CES 2014 and shows a hands-on look at the Xperia Z1 Compact and iPhone 5S and begins with a look at how the overall sizes compare.

Build quality of both handsets is said to be excellent although the finish of the Xperia Z1 Compact is more prone to showing fingerprints. A big plus point for the Xperia Z1 Compact is that is also has the benefit of being waterproof. Performance of both is said to be good with plenty of decent features, and the camera set-ups are also detailed.

We’ll remind you of the key specs of each. The iPhone 5S has a 1.3GHZ Apple A7 dual-core processor, 4-inch display with resolution of 1136 x 640 and 326 ppi, 1GB of RAM and 16, 32 or 64GB of non-expandable internal storage. It also has an 8-megapixel rear camera, 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera, and 1560 mAh battery.

On the other hand the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact has a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, 4.3-inch display with resolution of 1280 x 720 and 342 ppi, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD to 64GB). It has a 20.7-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera and a 2300 mAh battery.

1,058 applicants cleared by Mars One for next step toward one-way Mars trip

Mars One says it has picked 1,058 aspiring spacefliers to move on to the next round in its search for the first humans to live and die on the Red Planet.

The Dutch-based nonprofit wants to start launching groups of four on one-way trips to Mars by 2024, with the long-term goal of creating the first permanent settlement on Mars. More than 200,000 people registered their interest in Mars One's project by the time the initial application window closed on Aug. 31. Those who get to move on to the next, more rigorous selection phase were notified by email on Monday.

The group's co-founder Bas Lansdorp said in a statement that it was challenging to separate "those who we feel are physically and mentally adept to become human ambassadors on Mars from those who are obviously taking the mission much less seriously." He added that some even appeared nude in their application videos.

Of those who made the first cut, 297 are from the United States. Canada is the second most represented country with 75 candidates, followed by India with 62 and Russia with 52. All told, Mars One is looking at applicants from 107 different countries, according to figures released by the group.

Nearly 77 percent of the people who made the first cut are employed, while about 15 percent are still in school. About 55 percent of the applicants are male, and most are quite young: 357 are under 25 and 415 are under 35, while just 26 are over 56. The oldest person to make it to the next round is 81.

Apple denies working with NSA on spying malware

Apple Inc. responded on Tuesday to reports that the National Security Agency had developed a system to hack into and monitor iPhones called "Dropout Jeep," saying it never worked with the U.S. spy agency and was unaware of efforts to target its smartphones.
Germany's Der Spiegel reported this week that a secretive unit of the NSA, now under fire for the extent and depth of it's spying programs around the world, makes specialized gear and software to infiltrate and monitor a plethora of computing devices, including mobile phones.

The report included an NSA graphic dated 2008 that outlined a system in development called DROPOUTJEEP, calling it a "software implant" that allows infiltrators to push and pull and retrieve data from iPhones such as contact lists. Der Spiegel referred to it as a "trojan," or malware that helps hackers get into protected systems.
The report, which surfaced on Sunday, did not suggest that Apple had co-operated with the U.S. spying agency on so-called backdoors.

The iPhone was a relatively new-fangled gadget in 2008. It hit the market in 2007 and proceeded to help revolutionize the mobile phone industry.
"Apple has never worked with the NSA to create a backdoor in any of our products, including iPhone. Additionally, we have been unaware of this alleged NSA program targeting our products," the company said in a statement.

"We will continue to use our resources to stay ahead of malicious hackers and defend our customers from security attacks, regardless of who's behind them."

Samsung’ gigantic 12.2-inch tablet reportedly headed to AT&T

It appears that Samsung has yet to plug the leak, because once again news regarding the Galaxy Note Pro has surfaced, this time in the form of a carrier for the oversized tablet. According to @evleaks, AT&T is the first provider to agree to carry the 12.2-inch Galaxy Note Pro, a tablet which shares many of its specs with the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition). Those specs include a 2,560 x 1,600-pixel LCD display, a 2.4GHz quad-core processor, 3GB of RAM, 8-megapixel rear camera, a 9,500 mAh battery and Android 4.4 KitKat. The previous leak revealed that the tablet will launch internationally in the first quarter of 2014, but there was no word as to whether the U.S. would be a part of the initial rollout. If this new report is to be believed, chances are good that the tablet will indeed hit U.S. shores in the near future.

World's biggest television: Samsung launches 110inches flat screen

The world's largest television set, which measures 110 from corner to corner and is four times sharper than a high-definition TV, was today put on sale by Samsung.

The company launched the monster screen in South Korea, priced at 160million won, or around £100,000. It achieves achieves its precise picture - which has been compared to looking through a window - through U-HDTV (Ultra-High Definition Television) technology, which packs in four times as many pixels per inch as current high-definition sets.

The exclusive device, which is 102 inches wide and 70 inches tall, is bigger than a king-sized bed, and will also be sold in China, the Middle East and Europe.

Samsung said they have received ten orders from the Middle East already, though Chinese buyers are expected to snap up the largest portion of the sets. The new model dwarfs the size of the former largest Samsung U-HDTV, which measured 85 inches.

They replace the previously-touted OLED technology, which Samsung and rivals LG were last year promoting as the future technology. But the specially-treated LED bulbs were deemed to expensive for the huge screens, and both manufacturers have now embraced U-HDTV.

New TECH: A shark sends a twitter message......so incredible!!!

Western Australia is now considered the world's deadliest place for shark attacks and since 2012 six people have been killed - with the number of attacks said to be rising.
In a bid to solve this problem, scientists from the area have fitted 320 sharks with special transmitters that track the animals’ movements.

If a tagged shark swims within a kilometre of any beach along the west coast, a receiver will trigger an alert, which then generates an automatic warning tweet.

Due to a rise in shark attacks off the coast of Western Australia, scientists have fitted 320 sharks in the area, including tiger sharks, pictured, with transmitters. If a tagged shark swims within a kilometre of a beach an alert is triggered. This then generates an automatic warning tweet

HOW DOES THE SYSTEM WORK?
Australian scientists fitted 320 sharks, including tiger sharks, great whites and bronze whaler sharks, with transmitters that track the animals' movements.

If a tagged shark swims within a kilometre of any beach along the west coast, a receiver in the water triggers an alert.
This, in turn, generates an automatic warning tweet containing the breed of the shark as well as the time it triggered the alarm and the shark’s approximate location.

This location is based on which receiver was triggered.
The transmitters were fitted by the Surf Life Saving Western Australia's (SLSWA) group and the tweet is sent from the company’s Twitter feed.

Alleged Oppo Find 7′s Metal Frame Leaked- ubergizmo.com

Alleged Oppo Find 7′s Metal Frame Leaked By Tyler Lee on 12/30/2013 Filed in Homepage > CellPhones Oppo has been making the headlines recently and one of the Chinese company’s upcoming handsets is the Oppo Find 7, which we recently found out has been confirmed to feature a 5.5” display with a 2K resolution, making them the second company to release such a device behind the Vivo Xplay 3S.

Oppo has been teasing the handset for a while now and while we’re still unsure when the handset will be officially revealed, a leaked photo has started to make its rounds on the internet where it shows off what appears to be the metal frame that will be making its way into the Find 7.

While the specs of the Find 7 have been rumored for a while now, this is the first time we’re getting a glimpse at its metal frame, indicating that Oppo could be turning to more premium materials for the build of the phone, as opposed to using plastic which is common practice amongst most smartphone OEMs.

The measurements of the phone confirm that the display is of the 5.5” variety, so at the very least it would seem as though this leaked component is the real deal. Based on what we know so far, the rest of the Find 7’s specs include a 2.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 3GB of RAM, and a 16MP Sony Exmor camera on the back, and might possibly come with CyanogenMod preinstalled, similar to the Oppo N1. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but with CES and MWC around the corner, perhaps Oppo will share more details with us then.

APPLE: iOS 6.1.3/6.1.4 Jailbreak Now Available

iOS 6.1.3/6.1.4 Jailbreak Now Available

ubergizmo.com reports

Yesterday we reported that a jailbreak for iOS 6.1.3 and 6.1.4 would be coming soon and sure enough it has. It looks like iH8sn0w worked pretty fast as the jailbreak is currently available to download by hitting up the jailbreak’s website. As we had mentioned earlier, the jailbreak appears to be limited to those running on Mac OS X at the moment, but according to its website, the Windows version of the jailbreak should be coming soon, although no word on when that will be, so if you’re running on Windows, you’ll have to find someone with a Mac if you want to jailbreak your iOS device.

The new look has been criticized as being too bright, and in some instances, cartoony. In fact some criticisms have taken it to the next level with users complaining that the parallax effect in iOS 7 has given them motion sickness, which is why there are still those out there who refuse to update to iOS 7, but still have to have the latest jailbroken iOS 6 running on their devices. As it stands an untethered jailbreak for iOS 7 has recently been released as well, so for those running on either iOS 6.1.3/6.1.4 or iOS 7, you guys have some options.

COMING SOON!! $100 Moto G For Verizon Leaked

Moto G For Verizon Leaked, Could Be Priced At $100

Word has it that Verizon has plans to bring the Motorola Moto G onto their network sometime next year, but unfortunately the exact date and pricing of said handset remains unknown for now. Well according to a recently leaked photo, it seems that while the date of the handset’s launch on Verizon remains unknown, what we might have found out is that the device could be priced at a very affordable $100.

This is the price that the handset will cost off-contract, meaning that if you did not want to be tied down to any contract with the carrier, this is one of the options available to you at the moment. Of course since Verizon has not confirmed this themselves so do take it with a grain of salt for now.

The Moto G is Motorola’s latest Android offering and it is the cheaper version of its Moto X handset. The device was launched back in November and while it does not have the most powerful hardware that an Android phone could feature, we guess if the $100 price tag is true, then it is certainly one of the more affordable devices available at the moment. As far as specs are concerned, the Moto G will feature a 4.5” HD display and will pack a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor under its hood. It will be accompanied by 8GB of onboard storage, a 5MP rear-facing camera, and will run on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.
