 Over the years, NNPC and Total Upstream Companies in Nigeria have demonstrated a high level of commitment towards the educational development of Nigeria students as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility. This commitment has been confirmed in several ways, one of which is the annual award of scholarships to deserving Nigerian students in tertiary institutions. The programme is aimed at promoting academic excellence and qualitative manpower development in the nation. NNPC/TOTAL hereby announces hereby invite suitable candidates for its 2013/2014 National Merit Scholarship Awards.

ELIGIBILITY:
Registered FULL TIME undergraduates in recognized Nigerian Universities
Certified 100/200 level students at the time of application
Proof of SSCE or equivalent certificate
Proof of UME scores, Admssion letters and Matriculation numbers.

2014/2015 NITDA Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme for Nigerians



The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in pursuance of her mandate of producing globally competitive manpower in order to bridge the digital divide and transform Nigeria into an Information Technology capable country, has established a scholarship scheme for Post Graduate (PG) studies in Master’s and Doctorate (PhD) degrees in relevant areas of information Technology (IT) obtainable in National and international Universities.

ELIGIBILITY:
Masters Degree Candidate for the award of Masters Degree Scholarship must have 1st class or 2nd class upper Division in relevant Information Technology field of study.
PhD Candidates for the award of PhD degree scholarship must have Masters Degree in relevant Information Technology field of study.

RULES AND REGULATIONS: The scholarships will be strictly based on merit and cover the six Geo-political Zones of the country. The Agency will collaborate with the various institutions of higher learning within and outside the country to ensure that the scheme is successfully executed.

2014 Korean Government Scholarship Program Guideline for International Students



ELIGIBILITY: Application Requirements

 The applicant and his/her parents must have foreign citizenships.

Applicants who hold Korean citizenship are not permitted to apply for this program.

 Applicants should be in good health, both mentally and physically, to stay in Korea for an extended period of time.

Applicants must submit the Personal Medical Assessment (included in the application form) when he/she apply for this program, and when it’s orientation, an Official Medical Examination will be done by NIIED. A serious illness (For example, HIV, Drug, etc) will be the main cause of disqualification from the scholarship. The handicapped who satisfy the above are also eligible for the program

 NOT Eligible: those who are pregnant (disqualified upon discovery)
Applicants must be under 40 years of age as of Sep. 1st, 2014 (born after Sep. 1st, 1974).
Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree as of August 31st, 2014.

* (Important) Applicants who have ever enrolled in a university in Korea will be disqualified from applying to the KGSP program. Specifically, an applicant who has previously enrolled in an undergraduate program, a master’s program, a doctoral program including an exchange program (D-2 visa holders ever) in Korea cannot apply for this program.
Exception 1. Applicant who has experienced an exchange program in Korea only for previous academic courses graduation, and if it was mandatory for his or her graduation of degree program; thus could submit official explanation from the attended institution can apply for this KGSP program.


Exception 2. The KGSP scholar who has graduated or will graduate from a Korean university as of August 31st, 2014 can apply for this program again only via the embassy if only he/she holds at least TOPIK Level 4 and obtain another recommendation within the allotment from the Korean Embassy of his/her respective country of origin (re-application is limited to one instance).


* Applicants who apply for the Master’s program must hold a Bachelor’s degree or a diploma that is equivalent to or higher than a Bachelor’s degree.
* Applicants who apply for the Doctoral program must hold a Master’s degree or a diploma that is equivalent to or higher than a Master’s degree.
* Applicants who are expecting to obtain the relevant required degree or diploma by August 31st, 2014 must submit a certificate of degree or diploma expectation, and submit the official certificate of degree or diploma to NIIED by August 31st, 2014. (If not, disqualified for this program)

Applicants must maintain a grade point average (G.P.A.) of at least 2.64 on a 4.0 scale, 2.80 on a 4. 3 scale, 2.91 on a 4.5 scale, or grades/marks/score of 80% or higher from the previously attended institution.
* If an applicant does not satisfy the above GPA criteria, he/she will be disqualified from applying to this program.
* If the transcript is not indicated in grades/marks/scores format, or is difficult to convert into percentages, attachment of official explanation from the attended institution is required.
 Applicants who have Korean proficiency or English proficiency may be given preference.
 Applicants who apply for natural science and technology program may be given preference.
 Applicants who are university professors currently in the developing countries may be given preference.

PRIZE: Scholarship Period : same as the period of invitation.

o Payment:
-Airfare: Round-trip economy class ticket.
* Airfare for entry will not be provided to scholars who already currently live in Korea for academic study or employment.
* The fees for domestic travel within a scholar’s home country and for travel insurance to and from Korea will not be provided.
* Scholars from China and the Czech Republic will not be provided airfare by NIIED, but by their country of origin according to the mutual agreements.
-Monthly Allowance : 900,000 won (KRW) per month.
-Research Allowance : 210,000 won for scholars in the humanities and social sciences; 240,000 won for scholars in natural and mechanic sciences, per semester.
-Relocation (Settlement) Allowance : 200,000 won upon arrival (only for scholars from their own country, not for scholars who already currently live in Korea)
-Language Training Fee : Full coverage
-Tuitions : All admission fees are waived by the host institution (university). The tuition is paid by NIIED.
-Dissertation Printing Costs : 500,000 ~ 800,000 won, depending on the actual costs.
-Medical Insurance : 20,000 won per month will be provided (limited coverage).
-Special funding for scholars who are proficient in the Korean language (TOPIK Level 5 or 6): 100,000 won per month (commencing from the degree program)

Young Journalists Scholarship - Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP)


 Young Journalists Scholarship to attend the Second High Level Meeting (2nd HLM) of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP)

In its capacity as organizer of the 2nd High-Level Meeting of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP), the AEEP Secretariat therefore invites Young Journalists to be part of, and contribute to, the conference, to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 12-13 February 2014.

Up to 10 Young Journalists will be selected to work together, under the guidance of the communications team at the AEEP High-Level Meeting. Through their participation, selected Young Journalists will have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Africa-EU cooperation in the energy sector and the challenges various African countries continue to face in delivering energy services to their population.

While at the conference, Young Journalists will report on the conference sessions

-through Press Releases,
-through Social and New Media channels including Twitter,
-through video clips and interviews, and,
-the official conference website.

In addition, Young Journalists have the opportunity to submit stories, interviews, and reports to their own countries/outlets.

Prior to the conference, each Young Journalists will be required to submit one short story or video about an energy issue of their choice in their own country for publication.

Selected candidates will be asked to report on the 2nd High-Level Meeting of the AEEP. As part of the scholarship, selected Young Journalists will receive a pre-conference briefing/training session with the AEEP Secretariat, a round-trip economy class travel ticket to Addis Ababa, as well as accommodation and subsistence for the duration of their stay, including a refund of visa costs, and airport transfers.

ELIGIBILITY:
-You are not older than 35 years and based in Africa or the EU.
-You work as a print or online journalist, photojournalist, video journalist, and have at least three years of work experience across different media and platforms.
-You are fluent in English. French is an advantage.
-You have demonstrated your interest already and are eager to work more on energy and environment issues in your respective country.

The 2014 TechWomen Emerging Leader Application


BRIEF DESCRIPTION: TechWomen empowers, connects, and supports the next generation of women leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) from Africa and the Middle East by providing them the access and opportunity needed to advance their careers, pursue their dreams, and inspire women and girls in their communities.
Through mentorship and exchange, TechWomen strengthens participants’ professional capacity, increases mutual understanding between key networks of professionals, and expands girls’ interest in STEM careers by exposing them to female role models.

The 2014 Emerging Leader application is now open!

ELIGIBILITY:
  • Be women with a minimum of two years full-time professional experience in the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and math) and/or a career requiring significant expertise/knowledge/application of technology
Have, at minimum, a bachelor’s degree/four year university degree or equivalent
  • Be proficient in written and spoken English
Demonstrate a willingness to participate in exchange programs, welcome opportunities for mentoring and new partnership development, and exhibit confidence and maturity
  • Be citizens or permanent residents of Algeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, the Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tunisia, Yemen, or Zimbabwe at the time of application, and while participating in the program
Not have applied for an immigrant visa to the United States, or participated in a visa lottery in the past five years
  • Be able to obtain a U.S. visa
Not hold U.S. Citizenship or be a U.S. legal permanent resident
Preference will be given to applicants who
  • Have demonstrated themselves as emerging leaders in their chosen professional track
  • Have limited or no prior experience in the United States
  • Have a record of voluntary or public service in their communities
  • Have demonstrated entrepreneurialism and commitment to innovation

Thank God Its Centenary (TGIC) Essay and Quiz Contest for Nigerians (Over 1 million Naira in Prizes)




BRIEF DESCRIPTION: In light of the celebration of the 100 years amalgamation of Nigeria (1914-2014), TGIC Quiz Show is the 2nd Season of the TGIC Competition that had been going online. It intends to provide edutainment to Nigerians between the ages of 18-39. The Quiz show is an integral part of the Social media platform of the Nigeria Centenary Celebration.

The TGIC Competition Season 2 is in two stages/categories
(1) Entry stage is: the Essay category

The Law Society's Annual Graham Turnbull International Essay Competition.





BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Law students, trainee solicitors, pupil barristers and junior lawyers (current, prospective or inbetween stages) are invited to enter the Law Society's annual Graham Turnbull essay competition.

The competition is named after English solicitor Graham Turnbull who did much to promote respect for human rights. Graham was killed in February 1997, aged 37, while working as a human rightsmonitor on the United Nations Human Rights Mission in Rwanda. The Society is proud to honour Graham's commitment to human rights through this competition, which aims to encourage awareness and knowledge of international human rights issues and remedies among young lawyers.

ELIGIBILITY
: The competition is open to all current or prospective law students, trainee solicitors, pupil barristers and all solicitors and barristers, within three years of admission/call at the closing date.

RULES AND REGULATIONS:

Essays must reach the Law Society by 18:00 on Friday 21 February 2014.
Entries should be a maximum of 2,000 words, including footnotes.

The winning essay will be chosen by a panel of distinguished judges. The judges' decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. Read last years winning essays.

PRIZE: The winner will receive £500 from the Graham Turnbull Memorial Fund. The runner-up receives book tokens to the value of £250. We will also publish both essays. The prize-giving event will take place at the Law Society in late April 2014, where the winner may give a short speech.

2013 Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Undergraduate Essay Competition

How To Register For Shell Niger-Delta Postgraduate Scholarship In UK (2014/2015)



Application is ongoing for the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) sponsored SPDC Niger Delta Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme for applicants from Rivers, Delta and Bayelsa States.

As a key objective, the scholarship scheme is is aimed at providing an opportunity for qualifying students from the three Niger Delta States to further their education in courses that are relevant to the oil and gas industry.

The competition for 2014/15 is now open and the closing date is 24 January 2014.

Eligibility

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must:

1. display intellectual ability and leadership potential;
2. meet the university’s language requirement (usually at least 6.5 in IELTS);
3. be aged between 21-28 years;
4. be an indigene of rivers, Delta or Bayelsa States (documentary proof of this will be required);
5. currently reside in Nigeria;
6. intend to return and take up permanent residence in Nigeria after completion of the proposed programme of study;
7. have obtained a university degree of at least an equivalent standard to a UK Second Class Upper (Honours Degree);
8. be neither a current nor former employee (having left employment within the last five years) of SPDC, the Royal Dutch Shell Group of Companies or Karamat Ltd., or 9. be related to current employees of any of these companies;
10. not have studied previously in the UK or any other developed country.

How to Apply
In order to be considered for the scholarship, candidates must apply to study on one of the three eligible programmes through the standard Imperial College admission procedure by 24 January 2014.

Candidates who are shortlisted will be contacted by the department and advised to complete a scholarship application form.

Scholarship will cover:
a) Tuition fees
b) One return flight from Nigeria to the UK
c) Contribution towards living expenses only*
*Please note that the stipends are based on the Association of Commonwealth Universities Annual Rates and are limited to this.

a) MSc Petroleum Engineering
This MSc course is a one-year, full-time course that trains petroleum engineering professionals to understand and effectively utilise the workflow concepts now prevailing in the oil industry, and prepares them fully for work in multidisciplinary teams.

The course provides a 12-month conversion from other engineering and science-based foundations into the specialties of petroleum engineering, and is designed for both those with industrial experience and recent graduates.

Entry requirements
We accept students with first class degrees from a wide range of science and engineering backgrounds from UK and overseas academic institutions.
Professionals with other qualifications, but with a minimum of three years’ relevant industrial experience, are also encouraged to apply.
If your first degree is from a country other than the UK, you may find the guidelines within our Country Index helpful. Please note that these guidelines indicate the College minimum.

b) MSc Petroleum Geoscience
This course is a one-year, full-time multidisciplinary programme covering a wide range of earth science subjects and their application to the full spectrum of hydrocarbon exploration and production.
It is designed for students with some industrial experience, as well as for recent graduates seeking careers in the petroleum and allied service industries.
The course presents the methods and practices of the modern petroleum industry, with considerable emphasis on developing transferable skills.

Entry requirements
The minimum entrance requirement is an Upper Second Class Honours (2:1) degree in an earth science-based subject from a UK University or its equivalent.

Graduates with other closely related earth/environmental science degrees (physical geography or oceanography, for example) will also be considered.

Professionals with different qualifications but with relevant industrial experience are also encouraged to apply.

c) MSc Petroleum Geophysics
This course is a one-year, full-time programme covering the principles and use of geophysical methods in the hydrocarbon industry.

It is designed for recent graduates seeking careers in the petroleum and allied service industries, as well as for graduates with some industrial experience.

Uniquely, it incorporates aspects of petroleum engineering and focuses on production-related aspects of geophysics.

The course emphasises current industry practice, and incorporates commercial technology and software packages, as well as lectures from leading industry experts.

It contains a significant amount of fieldwork and project work, and aims to develop transferable skills in addition to technical proficiency. The course begins in early October.

If you are applying for a PhD degree, you are advised to contact a potential supervisor before making a formal application. You may wish to provide the supervisor with a copy of your Curriculum Vitae and indicate what your proposed topic of study is, the potential start date and how you propose to fund the project.

SHELL IDEAS360: How to participate for this session



Undergraduate and postgraduate students of all Nigerian Universities are encouraged to participate in SHELL IDEAS360, a global competition organised by Shell International Limited for students towards developing “game-changing ideas for tackling energy, water and food issues”.

Five individuals or teams are to be selected per school to progress to the final stage of the Competition, and these successful entries will be recipients of a sponsored trip to Shell Eco-Marathon 2014 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The winner of the competition will, in addition, receive the grand prize of a National Geographic Expedition.

Participation in the Competition is open to any person who:

(I) is, or will be aged 18 or over by May 31, 2014; and
(II) is currently studying (and is officially registered to continue studying until at least May 31, 2014) as a full time undergraduate or postgraduate at a recognised, degree awarding university or other equivalent higher education establishment.
