Ciaconna ensemble
A new early music ensemble in Edmonton under the artistic direction of early music specialist Josephine van Lier.
The ensemble will be dedicated to the historically informed performance practice of music from the renaissance, baroque and classical eras.
Ciaconna ensemble will start its first rehearsal in January 2016.

Who is Ciaconna Ensemble?
Ciacconna Ensemble is an ensemble consisting of intermediate to advanced amateur musicians and semi-professionals. These are musicians playing strings, winds and continuo instruments.
Who is the artistic director Josephine van Lier?
Founding member, president and artistic director of Early Music Alberta, Josephine van Lier is a strong advocate for the historically informed performance practice of early music, organizing performance opportunities for local, national and international musicians in a concert series and yearly early music festival.

Josephine van Lier is the founder and artistic director/conductor of La Folia, Edmonton's baroque string ensemble specialized in the historically informed performance of little known music of the Renaissance and baroque. La Folia was founded in 2012.

She is recipient of the "Celebration of Women in the Arts Award" from the Edmonton Arts Council.

Where will Ciaconna Ensemble rehearse?
Rehearsals will be at the Concordia Seminary Chapel in Edmonton

When does Ciaconna Ensemble rehearse?
Weekly rehearsals will be on Tuesday evening from 6PM to 8PM

How much will it cost to play?
The costs will be $600-$750 per year depending on the size of the ensemble. This will be $60-$75 per month spread over 10 monthly payments. The first season will be between January and early June. The cost for this inaugural season will be $360-$450 or 6 monthly payments of $60-$75 depending on the ensemble's size.
Who can apply?
Intermediate to advanced amateur musicians and semi-professionals.
We are looking for:
strings (violins, violas, cellos, viola da gambas, bass)
winds (oboes, recorders, flutes, sackbuts, trumpets)
continuo instruments (harpsichord, lutes, etc)

All instruments must be able to play at A-415.

What kind of instrument should I bring? Baroque/Modern?
The ensemble will strive to play music from the renaissance, baroque and classical eras in a  historically informed manner . The tuning will be mostly A-415.  Period instruments and set-ups are encouraged but not essential.
Will there be concerts?
YES! There will be three concerts per year. This first season there will be two performances.
