THE LAST DAYS OF NISARGADATTA MAHARAJ - IN COMMEMORATION OF THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF NISARGADATTA MAHARAJ’S ‘MAHASAMADHI’
With 3 Picture Cards of Maharaj for your Altar-Shrine.

Thirteen days after the great Advaita sage Nisargadatta Maharaj took ‘Mahasamadhi’ in 1981, S. K. Mullarpattan, his beloved disciple and longest-serving English interpreter, gave a momentous speech at the condolence meet. In moving words, he recounted incidents from the last days of Maharaj, and the indelible impact the great sage left upon anyone who came into contact with him.

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of Maharaj’s ‘Mahasamadhi’, we bring you the evocative speech made by Mullarpattan. One that recreates the magnetism of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj; the dramatic turn events took during this time; the loving and attentive care which his family and followers always provided; and, above all, Maharaj’s own detached attitude towards his final days, till he breathed his last.
Accompanying this Commemorative Booklet are 6 rare Picture Cards which you may place in your altar-shrine. They capture Nisargadatta Maharaj in various moods for his loving disciples and followers, the world over.

Talks With Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj - Audio CD
This Audio CD contains recordings of talks with Advaita sage Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj in the year 1980. These talks, which were originally on audio tapes, are on-the-spot recordings of live satsangs and not recordings done in a sound studio. Therefore, the quality is not quite up to the mark. Nevertheless, we have tried to clean them technically to the best extent possible. Please note that Maharaj spoke in Marathi, after which the interpreter translated his words into English. The questions raised by the seeker are not clearly audible, as there was no mike provided to the seeker at that time.

SRI NISARGADATTA MAHARAJ - A TRIBUTE

“When I see I am nothing, that is wisdom. When I see I am everything, that is love. My life is a movement between these two.”
– Nisargadatta Maharaj

From a humble room in a chawl at Khetwadi in Girgaum, Mumbai, Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj’s (1897-1981) Teaching reached out to spiritual seekers in India and across the globe with the publication of I Am That, the 1973 English translation of his talks in Marathi, by Maurice Frydman. He started taking disciples in 1951, only after a personal revelation from his guru Sri Siddharameshwar Maharaj. Nisargadatta Maharaj, with his direct and minimalistic explanation of Non-duality, is considered one of the foremost exponents of Advaita. After he stopped going to his shop in 1966, Maharaj continued to receive and teach visitors in his home, giving discourses twice a day, until his death at the age of eighty-four years.

Many spiritual luminaries and well-known writers have acknowledged the impact his words have had on their lives. Among those who have come together to pay homage to him here are: Swami Tejomayananda, Alan Jacobs, Pujya Gurudevshri Rakeshbhai, Gangaji, Jack Kornfield, Stephen Wolinsky, Mooji and Master Charles Cannon. Others have graciously shared their collection of Maharaj’s photographs with you in this pictorial tribute.

I AM THAT - TALKS WITH SRI NISARGADATTA MAHARAJ
This collection of the timeless teachings of one of the greatest sages of India, Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj, is a testament to the uniqueness of the seer's life and work and is regarded by many as a modern spiritual classic. I Am That (first published in 1973) continues to draw new audiences and to enlighten seekers anxious for self-realization. Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj was a teacher who did not propound any ideology or religion, but gently unwrapped the mystery of the self. His message was simple, direct, and sublime. I Am That preserves his dialogs with the followers who came from around the world seeking guidance in destroying false identities. The sage's sole concern was with the human suffering and the ending of suffering. It was his mission to guide the individual to an understanding of his true nature and the timelessness of being. He taught that the mind must recognize and penetrate its own state of being--not "being this or that, here or there, then or now," but just timeless being. A simple man, Maharaj was a householder and petty storekeeper in Bombay where he lived and died in 1981 at the age of 84. He had not been educated formally but came to be respected and loved for his insights into the crux of human pain and for the extraordinary lucidity of his direct disclosure. Hundreds of diverse seekers traveled the globe and sought him out in his unpretentious home in Bombay (now Mumbai) to hear him. To all of them, he gave hope that "beyond the real experience is not the mind, but the self, the light in which everything appears ... the awareness in which everything happens." In the humble abode of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj, but for the electric lights and the noises of the street traffic, one would not know in which period of human history one dwells. There is an atmosphere of timelessness about his tiny room; the subjects discussed are timeless -- valid for all times; the way they are expounded and examined is also timeless; the centuries, millennia and yugas fall off and one deals with matters immensely ancient and eternally new. The discussions held and teachings given would have been the same ten thousand years ago and will be the same ten thousand years hence. There will always be conscious beings wondering about the fact of their being conscious and enquiring into its cause and aim. Whence am I? Who am I? Whither am I? Such questions have no beginning and no end. And it is crucial to know the answers, for without a full understanding of oneself, both in time and in timelessness, life is but a dream, imposed on us by powers we do not know, for purposes we cannot grasp. I Am That is a legacy from a unique teacher who helps the reader to a clearer understanding of himself as he comes to Maharaj with the age-old question, "Who am I?" Seekers were never turned away from the humble abode of Maharaj during his life and can still find their answers to this timeless question in the pages of this book today.

BEYOND FREEDOM - TALKS WITH SRI NISARGADATTA MAHARAJ
Recently, some long-forgotten tapes of Nisargadatta Maharaj’s talks were unearthed from the archives of S. K. Mullarpattan, Maharaj’s interpreter for the longest time. These tapes contained recordings of some of Maharaj’s talks with seekers, held during the last two years of his life.

They capture afresh the essence and flavour of the teachings of this world-renowned Master of Advaita – the Hindu philosophy of Non-duality. These dialogues find a new relevance for our times. For, in one of these talks, Maharaj made a special reference to his earlier book I Am That and said, “That book and whatever was expounded at that time was only relevant for that period.I am speaking differently today. As a matter of fact, this should also have been recorded andpublished as it is in greater detail, and is emphasizing different aspects.”

More than 25 years later, that wish of Nisargadatta Maharaj is being fulfilled with the publication of these talks in Beyond Freedom. This is a book all devotees of Maharaj will want to read with ardent fervour and enthusiasm

THE NECTAR OF IMMORTALITY - SRI NISARGADATTA MAHARAJ DISCOURSES ON THE ETERNAL - Editor: Robert Powell
Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj (1897-1981), a revered master of the Tantric Nath lineage, is an inspiring example of an ordinary family man who attained complete realization of the Infinite. Living the absolute nonduality of Being in every moment, he taught that true freedom is a possibility open to every one of us. He drew disciples from all over the world to his humble loft in the tenements of Bombay. Even on the written page, Nisargdatta’s words carry a special potency. They subtly push us beyond the ego to our original, pristine and blissful Self, to the rediscovery of Oneness and authentic liberation in our Source.

POINTERS FROM NISARGADATTA MAHARAJ
by Ramesh S. Balsekar (Author) Sudhakar S. Dikshit (Editor)
[Excerpt from Preface] I had no intention of writing a book on the teaching of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj. The material that appears in this volume emerged spontaneously, dictated, in a fine frenzy that surcharged my being, by a compulsive power that could not be denied. There was no alternative but to write, to reduce to a verbal level the abstract comprehension of the Master s words. Actually it was more like listening than writing though my pen apparently formed words and sentences on the paper before me. When the first piece, now a chapter in this book, was written, I found that my tfioughts were running way ahead of the writing. And what I wrote was put away in a folder without even being read over again; I did not then expect that there would be more of such writing let alone as many as fifty-odd pieces. Each time there would be this feeling of compulsion to put in writing a particular topic which Maharaj might have dealt with; and each time the article was put away in the folder without being revised or even read over. When about fifteen articles had been so collected, a friend of mine, Keki Bunshah of Hong Kong, an ardent fellow devotee, happened to call at my residence. While we were discussing a particular point, I happened to mention that some writmg had come about on that very subject only the previous day.

SELF KNOWLEDGE AND SELF REALIZATION

The first part of the film is a narrated biography of Sri Nisargadatta, the second part consists of interviews and talks with Indian and Western devotees, many of whom knew Nisargadatta but have never appeared on film before. An interesting and very beautifully produced film with a strongly Indian aesthetic.

About Nisargadatta Maharaj

Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj was an Indian spiritual teacher and philosopher of Advaita (Nondualism), and a Guru, belonging to the Navnath Sampradaya. Sri Nisargadatta, with his direct and minimalistic explanation of non-dualism, is considered the most famous teacher of Advaita since Ramana Maharshi. In 1973, the publication of his most famous and widely-translated book, "I AM THAT", an English translation of his talks in Marathi by Maurice Frydman, brought him worldwide recognition and followers.

According to Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj, the purpose of spirituality is simply to know who you are. His discussions are not for academic scholars. He is a rebellious spirit, abrupt in his style of discussion, provocative, and immensely profound, cutting to the core and wasting little effort on inessentials. He talked about the 'direct way' of knowing the Final Reality, in which one becomes aware of one's original nature through mental discrimination, breaking the mind's false identification with the ego, knowing that "You are already That".
