Hello Twisty Puzzles,

I have finished my first mod; it's mostly plastic-sheet. Some of you know that I've been working on this mod for several weeks at a rate of an hour or two per weekend. Yes, another collector converted into modding. :)

I don't know if this design has been done before. I created this shape out of cardboard/magnets in 1999 as a put-together two-solution puzzle... Ten years later, here it is as a plastic twisty puzzle, finally.

At 138 grams, it's nice and heavy, it turns smoothly but I think I over lubricate it a little.

So, without further ado, here are the pictures.

Very nicely done! I have no idea what to call it, but great build!

I don't know. I'd go with a more descriptive name. Even something as simple as Skarabajo's Odd 2x2, or a name that describes the type of transformation you performed.

Just my 2 cents.

Strangely enough, it reminds me of a Golden Cube.

Maybe "Ska's Cube" or something?

Hello,

Thank you for the comments. By the way, I forgot to mention that every face looks the same (if you count mirror images). The puzzle is some what symmetrical and there is only two types of pieces (if you count mirror pieces as one).

I like the idea of giving it a name that describes the transformation, but it is a rotation on a combination of axes. So I'm still thinking about a name. I don't know about Skarabajo's cube, that's just my alias, not my real name...

Skarabajo.

I was hoping we could keep that name reserved for the Skewb + 2x2 combination if someone ever figures out how to do it.

Maybe since it's rotated about more than one axis, it could be the Polyaxis 2x2...

Hello,

Thank you for the compliments/comments.

I really like Polyaxis cube 2x2, but there is a brand of plastics that goes by that name, I wonder if it could cause a problem in the future.

As for the name of my put-together cardboard puzzle, well... I used to call it "my cube" with friends and family. :)

Skarabajo.

Do it! Unless you have plans on getting it mass produced.

Very impressive!

Hope you carry on and make some more mods - you're certainly very good at it :)

Tilt Cube?

I really like the identical/mirror sides. That gives it a nice regular look to a shape changing mod.

Hello,

Once again, thanks for the comments and compliments. I really appreciate them, particularly coming from such great modders.

I have decided to call this puzzle Polyaxis Cube 2x2 since, like I said before, it is a rotation in multiple axes. Thank you for the name idea, Eitan.

BTW, yes Justin, I will carry on and make some more mods. :D

I have created a video showing the movement: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTdPuFZyCTg

I have added this link to the first post.

Skarabajo.
