Iran has commenced the construction of Mashhad-Zahedan Railroad that is an integral part of the International North–South Transport Corridor to connect Central Asia to high seas through Iran’s Chabahar Port on the coast of the Indian Ocean.

“The first block of Mashhad-Zahedan Railroad is 40 kilometers connecting three provinces of Sistan-Baluchestan, South Khorasan and Khorasan Razavi,” First Vice President Es’haq Jahangari, who was on hand for a ceremony to mark the commencement of the project on Thursday, was quoted as saying by Tasnim News Agency.

The International North-South Transport Corridor is a 7,200-km-long multimodal network of ship, rail and road routes for moving freight across India, Iran, Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Central Asia and Europe.
