Deadly Brazilian spider’s venom that is ‘more effective than Viagra’ could be used to cure erectile dysfunction
VENOM from one of the world’s deadliest spiders will help give men a boost in the bedroom.
Scientists say the treatment is more effective than Viagra and could soon help millions with erectile dysfunction.
Blokes bitten by the Brazilian wandering spider suffer priapism — painful and persistent stiffies.
And scientists say a gel based on the spider’s toxin helped fellas achieve an erection within half an hour, with no side-effects.
In tests, medics found a tiny blob doubled blood flow to the penis.
It is thought to boost levels of nitric oxide, which widens the tiny blood vessels that pump blood into a bloke’s privates during arousal.
The therapy could also help women with flagging libidos, say experts.
A clinical trial found men treated with the BZ371 gel experienced a 113 per cent boost in blood flow to their penis.
PROBLEM IN YOUR FLIES?
Scientists in Brazil also found that the spider gel had immediate effects on impotent rats.
They said it has the “potential to be a safe and effective option for erectile dysfunction patients”.
Around five million Brits suffer from impotence, caused by stress, depression or conditions which affect blood flow, including heart disease and diabetes.
A third do not respond to love drugs or other treatments, such as vacuum pumps.
BONKING BOOST
The team told the Journal of Sexual Medicine: “Without any stimulation, a swelling of the penis lasting about 60 minutes was seen 20 minutes later.
“This result suggests that it is able to induce erection, independently of sexual stimulation.”
Prof Maria Elena de Lima said: “We believe it could fill an enormous gap in the market and help millions of people worldwide.”
