It opened my eyes to a lot of realities. It made me more open minded, and more knowledgeable about a lot of topics and concepts. It helped me build international connections with people that can really benefit me in the future. It will help me in organising and sharing a lot of good ideas and concepts back in my country, and i have gained some information for myself that will help me a lot as a physician in the future.

Do you think that this activity should continue to be organized in the future? Of course. Everybody deserves a chance to experience this amazing adventure.

Did the program meet your expectations? Exceeded them!

Message from the OC Dear SCORAngels, It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I, as the Head of the OC for SCORA X-Change Portugal 2017, present you with our proposal for what will be the third edition of this amazing project. Over the past two years, ANEM/PorMSIC has organized SCORA X-Change in an endeavour to provide sexual and reproductive health advocates and enthusiasts all over the world with an opportunity to gain an in-depth knowledge on these subjects. We have received excellent feedback from both the international and local participants of the past two editions, which made us want to continue organizing this program, offering medical students important tools to use in their future careers and helping to increase and spread awareness on these topics in a global scale. In PorMSIC we believe that youth should have a leading role in spreading awareness about the subjects concerning Sexual and Reproductive Health. We are the leaders of tomorrow and therefore we have the obligation to fight the stigmas perpetuated by previous generations and the responsibility to educate ourselves to become better doctors and better citizens of the world. We hope participants will come out of this experience with a new and more complete perspective on the issues discussed and that they will be able to use that knowledge in their home countries and have a positive impact in their communities. Furthermore, by opening spots for national participants we will increased the number of Portuguese students with knowledge in these subjects, and we’ll be able to work with them in different national projects, which will have a very positive impact in our NMO. In sum, I am sure that this will be a wonderful experience to everyone involved, and I hope you feel as enthusiastic about this project as I do. Best regards,

Rita Lopes ANEM/PorMSIC - NORA 2017

About Portugal “With its mild climate, 3000 hours of sunshine per year and 850 km of splendid beaches bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, Portugal is the perfect holiday destination all year round. This is a country that has the oldest borders in Europe, with an exceptional range of different landscapes just a short distance away, lot of leisure activities and a unique cultural heritage, where tradition and modernity blend together in perfect harmony. Its superb cuisine, fine wines and welcoming people make this country a tourist paradise of the highest quality. Situated in the extreme southwest of Europe, just a few hours from any of the other European capitals, Portugal attracts visitors from all over the world. Portugal has a population of about 10 million. The population density is at its greatest in Lisbon, the capital, and its suburbs, where about 1.9 million people live. The second largest city in Portugal is Oporto in the north. There are, in general, more people living in the country’s coastal regions than in the inland areas.” in www.visitportugal.com

Agenda This year, we present you with our most complete and ambitious program yet, with sessions and workshops in all 5 SCORA focus areas, as well as an extensive and varied social program, which will allow participants to visit our beautiful historical landmarks and explore the nightlife, while enjoying the complete Portuguese experience.

Week 1: Lisbon, 9-15th July The program will start with the participants doing a small presentation about “SCORA in my NMO. This will work both as an ice breaker for everyone to get to know one another, but also as a way for the participants to get a global perspective of the main issues on SRH around the world and the work being developed in other NMOs. The first three days will focus on HIV and other STIs. Participants will have the opportunity to get a theoretical introduction to the subject and to explore the clinical, psychological and social impact this problem has, on both infected people and their communities. They will also have the chance to discover how this issue is developing in Portugal and to visit an NGO devoted to this cause. The following two days will be dedicated to Comprehensive Sexuality Education, with sessions and workshop that aim to give participants with the necessary tools for them to be able to address sexuality in an open and inclusive way.

12

Week 2: Lisbon, 16-22th July The second week will begin with three full days covering topics related to Sexuality and Gender Identity. While exploring different perspectives, participants will be able to develop a deeper knowledge on the subject through a series of sessions, debates and workshops, complete with a visit to a NGO. The following two days will be dedicated to Maternal Health and Access to Safe Abortion. Once again, the sessions will focus both on the clinical, social and emotional components of the subject, allowing participants to discuss and form new ideas.

13

Week 3: Porto, 23-29th July In the final week, a different city will provide the perfect setting for a change of subject. This time, we’ll discuss Gender Based Violence, exploring a variety of subtopics that range from prostitution and the health conditions of sex workers to domestic violence and child abuse. This year we are introducing a big innovation: a full day dedicated to Youth Involvement and Advocacy in Sexual and Reproductive Health. This will be an event with speakers who have worked in SCORA and will share their experience with the participants and help them find ways to reach their full potential as SRH advocates. Finally, in the last day, participants will deliver a second short presentation on HIV/AIDS or Gender Based Violence in their countries. Once again, this will help participants to get a more global perspective on these issues but it will also be a way for them to realize how far they’ve come in their knowledge of these topics and what they can do in the future about them.

Get to know: Lisbon Lisbon is Portugal’s capital and the hub of a multifaceted area that appeals to different tastes and senses. In a city that has been influenced by many different far-off cultures over time, there is still a village feel in each historic neighbourhood. Stroll through the Pombaline grid of streets in the Baixa district that opens on to the Tagus in Praça do Comércio, then follow the river to discover some of the city’s most beautiful parts: the monumental area of Belém with its World Heritage monuments, the mediaeval quarters, and the latest contemporary leisure spaces, such as the Parque das Nações. If you continue to the mouth of the river, you’ll understand why we say that Lisbon is the centre of a vast resort. Along the coastal road, you’ll find beaches and beach resorts that combine villas and hotels from the beginning of the 20th century with marinas, terraces and excellent golf courses. Further along the coast you’ll come across world-renowned surfing beaches, but also the palaces scattered across the cultural landscape of Sintra, a World Heritage Site. The wide variety of landscapes and heritage is always close by, whether to the north or south of the capital. With beaches, natural parks, cultural routes, and accommodation for all tastes, it is hard to escape the Lisbon region on a visit to Portugal. Fado is another expression of what it is to be Portuguese that has also been awarded World Heritage status. You can hear it at night in a fado house or in a traditional neighbourhood. But go, as well, to the lively bars and nightclubs, to find other types of music. From reggae to African music, new wave, indie or electronic, there’s a great diversity of sounds and environments, but all are good excuses to have a drink and dance the night away. in www.visitportugal.com

Get to know: Porto Porto is one of Europe’s oldest tourist destinations. Its wealth of artistic heritage, Port Wine, open-air leisure spaces and cultural life are just some of the reasons to visit this city. The city unfolds along the river bank and the sea shore, to reveal charming vistas, inviting esplanades and all the pleasures of the outdoors, framed by its green spaces. But setting out to discover Porto means bumping into surprise after surprise. Whilst maintaining its welcoming and conservative nature, the city is, at the same time, contemporary and creative. This can be seen in its streets, its architectures, its museums, its leisure spaces, its esplanades, and its shopping areas which run from the traditional to the modern and exclusive. Porto’s Historical Centre was designated World Cultural Heritage in 1996 and its natural setting and its meandering streets give it a unique charm. Port wine is present in the city in a multitude of forms and sensations: you can get to know it and try it, but never ignore it or forget it. Having witnessed a long history of cultural ebbs, flows and eddies caused by successive waves of occupation, and often surrounded and invaded, but always remaining Invicta (unbowed), the city of Porto is really a living heritage, one that regenerates and reinvents itself, whilst maintaining its core character, grounded in granite and, thus, unshakeable. in www.visitporto.travel
