Didn't Hold My Interest Like The First Book

I really wanted to love this one, but it just didn't happen for me. This book was so-so for me and didn't have the appeal that 'Owned' had. The characters seemed like watered-down versions of their former selves. The story lacked the suspense and intrigue this time around also.

After reading the first book, I remember thinking that it was a little rough around the edges, needing a little more editing and fine-tuning that would certainly happen for the second book. Unfortunately, it didn't. There were many sentences that were missing words, etc. Although I was able to figure it out, it was distracting and took away from the story.

While I was happy to see Ellie and Kayne reunited, even I was wondering when something was going to happen to make the story interesting. The first 70 - 80 percent was focused solely upon their reunion and was pretty uneventful. It was never really believable that Ellie might choose to walk away from Kayne, so why that dragged on for so long is a mystery to me.

Just when you think that there isn't going to be anything happening in the book aside from a play by play account of their kinky reunion sex, there is a huge twist! Yep, the last 20 percent of the book is where things start getting interesting. Then, the author rushes through some pretty major events in a very short span of pages.

I don't know whether the author was under pressure to meet a deadline, or what. The ending felt rushed and honestly, sloppy. For the amount of time and detail that was spent providing a blow-by-blow account of a fight, serious issues, like Ellie's recovery, were barely even addressed. This seemed to be a pattern/theme with this book. A large amount of time and attention was spent focusing on the seemingly mundane elements, while major story elements were dropped in your lap and then skimmed right over. It was kind of anti-climactic.

I did enjoy reading about Ellie and Kayne, even if I had some gripes. Overall, I give it 3 stars. It was okay, but nothing to write home about, in my opinion.

Claimed begins one year after events unfolded towards the end of book one, Owned. Kayne Roberts is a broken man and on the road of self-destruction. Drinking heavily and getting into bar scraps, as well as having an unkempt appearance. Kayne desperately misses Ellie and wants her back. Jett, who is Kayne’s friend and colleague for many years, helps him to clean up his act and fight for his girl.

Quote ~ "I just miss her so damn much." "Is there ever going to be a woman in my life who doesn't break my heart."

Ellie Stevens is back to finishing her studies but she too is struggling with the memory and the effect of Kayne Roberts. It’s been a whole year since she left him. The man who abducted, trained, used, owned and deceived her. A whole year since she found out she was free. Ellie is trying to move on with her life with college, and seeing a fellow student, Michael, who is sweet and wants more; however, Ellie is happy getting drunk and having sex.

I’m so pleased Jett makes an appearance in this book as I really enjoyed the relationship he built with Ellie in Owned. He again plays the trusted confidant who is there to assure that Kayne has true feelings for her. Ellie has to learn to trust Kayne, and it doesn't come without its problems as she felt so let down by him. She doesn't want to be his sex slave, she wants equality.

Quote ~ "If you don't show up, he’s disappearing, and this time it will be for good."

This story had me totally intrigued as I do not normally do dark reads; nevertheless, the characters intrigued me. I was willing them on to have some closure and peace but totally together. There is hot sex as you would expect from the characters in this book, not to mention an extremely kinky scene. Domination and dirty sex is what Kayne and his kitten, Ellie, thrive on. Jett and London also make great cameo roles and get involved in a dirty sex scene.

Quote ~ " You don't put your life on the line for a plaything, you don't risk six years of work, a house full of people and your own heart for a plaything."

It is so clear that although they have hurdles to overcome, they truly are in love with each other. The chemistry just sizzles throughout Claimed. And let’s not confuse ourselves and think that it is all hearts and flowers and make up sex because it isn't. Kayne and Ellie have a bit of an unconventional relationship which is kinky. Of course, the story has a dark element and evil lurks to destroy something that could potentially work out.
Can they work out some sort of a future? Is it another doomed attempt at a relationship? You will have to read to find out.

I have become a fan of this author who has written a great series and totally converted me as I don't read dark books. I look forward to future stories but I am secretly hoping a possible novella with Kayne, Ellie and of course, Jett and London. Well done. Five stars well earned.

The wait is over, Claimed is here!

Holy! Hotness!! Kayne is Back In this 5 Kinky & Emotional STAR Journey ~~
This book is one you will not want to put down! Once you start reading, it grabs you, holds you, and will leave you with a book hangover of epic proportions!

Claimed is Book 2 in the Decadence After Dark Series and it starts where Owned leaves off, reading Owned First is a must! It should Also be noted that the author CLEARLY states this book is DARK EROTICA ~ there is some stuff in this book that will probably offend some people so be ready going into the story. BUT it should also be noted that Claimed is not just an erotic story full of sex..Claimed is so much more and is about two people and their journey towards each other. Claimed is ~ the story in-between the beginning and the end of the journey ~ and it is a story you don't want to miss!

So we all remember Kayne from Owned, Mr. Domineering Alpha who takes what he wants first and thinks about the consequences later. Well that Kayne has changed...yes he is still all Alpha, yes he is still Dominating, but he is also a deeply emotional man who is trying to find his way back to his soulmate. Kayne doesn't care what he has to do or what he has to give up as long as he has Ellie by his side in the end...it will all be worth it.

Ellie...where to begin? Ellie has grown too since the end of Owned. Ellie is trying to move on with her life, trying to put the past ...well in the past and leave it there. She has moved, she is dating, she is living her life and she is happy....right? So when a blast from her past shows up on her doorstep out of nowhere...it should have no bearing on her future...she has moved on after all ...right?!

Then there is Jett. What you didn't think he wasn't in Claimed..did you? Jett is back and he is not only Kaynes Best Friend and partner but takes on the role of a confidant to both Kayne and Ellie in this story. Jett also continues to provide comedy was comic relief and we are given more insight into Jett's personal life. There are a few repeat characters from Owned that make their appearance and there are new characters introduced whose stories are just getting started.

This book is HOT ~ It is kinky ~ It is fun ~ It is emotional. There are moments in this book you will laugh and moments you will cry, there are twists you can sort of anticipate and there are subplots and twists you will never see coming! This book gives you a look at Kaynes emotional side, the side that makes you want to snuggle up with him under a warm fuzzy blanket ~ but never fear that wild animal is also still alive in Kayne just scratching at the surface to come out and play.

Claimed is the HEA for Kayne and Ellie ~ but it also leaves room for their story and other characters story to continue. So what are you waiting for? One-Click this book or if for some reason you have not read Owned then get them both, get comfy, and hang on as M. Never takes you on a journey you will never forget!

This book is RAW. RIVETING. CAPTIVATING. SINFUL. EMOTIONAL. 5 Stars!!!!

Great ending to Kayne and Ellie's HEA. A little suspense, a lot of romance, hot sex, and kinky hot sex. Plus we get to see more of Jett and his girl London. Beware there's a four-some in this part as well as some F/F. Don't really like that he makes her crawl around.

As you can prolly tell from my updates, this book tested me to my limits. It was still good, however I felt it was so detached from book #1. I felt they were so careful in book #1 & made stupid mistakes in this one. Yes, some of that was contributed to the fact that they both were not thinking clearly. This book had all the feels, The 1st one had all the darkness. In the 1st one He took what he wanted & did what was best. In this one, he was too damn scared to lose her again to do either. But that was who he was deep down. I understand that now. I did feel this book wasn't as creative as the 1st one in getting the characters in the exact spot that was was needed for the rest of the story to continue. It was like I could spot the whole thing from a mile away. I loved how the h pushed the H back to see if he was gonna keep his word. This story had me @ war with myself. Yup that was how good it was.

OMG.... I could not wait to get my hands on this book. So when the author provided me with an advanced copy, I was ecstatic. Once I sat down to read Claimed, I could not put my kindle down. With each turn of the page, I found myself loving these characters even more.

As we all know, Kayne lost Ellie at the end of Owned. His decisions cost him the love of his life. In Claimed we see the aftermath of their breakup through both Kayne's and Ellie's POV. Their time apart took a toll on both of them. While Kayne opted to handle his heartache one way, Ellie tried to fill the void a different way. The saying goes, time heals all wounds, but as time went by it only made their wounds worse. Ellie is struggles with her inner feelings. Is she a whore for wanting to feel the way Kayne made her feel? Is there something wrong with her that she craves to be with Kayne? Can she forgive Kayne? Can she trust him?

Kayne told Ellie" No matter where you go or who you're with, you'll always be mine." That statement stay true to form. Ellie may not be with Kayne, but he was always close. Whether it was physically or by being informed of her whereabouts and safety by Jett.

When given the opportunity to see Kayne, will Ellie want to see him? Will she tell him exactly how she feels? Tell him how betrayed she feels? Does she even know the real Kayne?

"Would you spank me until I cried? Beat me while I begged you to stop? Chain me to the bed and use me as you saw fit all while you lie to me. Make me think I actually mean something, when all I really am is a plaything? ~ Ellie

"You were never just a plaything?" I growl, standing up so I tower her. "You don;t put your life on the line for a plaything. You don't risk six years of work, an entire household full of people and your own fucking heart for a plaything. You may be angry with me Ellie, but I did what I did for a reason, and i would do it again without blinking an eye. Not only because I loved dominating you, but because you are her, standing in front of me, alive and mentally sound." ~ Kayne

Both Kayne and Ellie have trust issues, just for different reason. Even though Kayne may hold the key to her collar, she holds the key to his heart. A heart that only heats for her. Will their pasts hinder their future. Is their love for one another strong enough?

"She left me once, she could do it again."The thought nearly demolishes me. She really is the one person who can destroy me. She may kneel at my feet, but she holds all the power. I'm the slave. I always have been." ~ Kayne
I loved how we got to see the "real" Kayne in Claimed. To see how Kayne became the man he is today. To say Kayne had a rough childhood is an understatement. Kayne and Ellie may have come from two separate upbringings, but they are similar in so many ways. They both crave the same things, whether it be sexual, physical or emotional. Kayne's love for Ellie never wavered. I don't believe Ellie's did either. She just needed to know that she could trust him again. When the two of them realize that their hearts were "claimed" by each other a year ago, they are amazing together.

I loved seeing a different side of Kayne in Claimed. To see the "every day" Kayne, not that Dom side of him. When I say how he was finally able to open up to Ellie, it warmed by heart. It was what I wanted from him while reading Owned. I wanted him to put his heart on the line. I wanted him to verbalize how he felt, rather than show how he felt. Kayne may be a Dom in the bedroom, but he sure does have a sweet sensitive side as well. His heart beats for Ellie.

This is probably one of my favorite quotes from the book.
"Ellie, you're the one person who can destroy me. You're my sin and my absolution, my indulgence and my starvation and every tight to all my wrongs " ~ Kayne

If you have not read Owned by M. Never, you definitely must ONE click it prior to reading Claimed. Trust me when I say, you WILL NOT be disappointed. There are several twists and turns in this book. I was thrilled to get more of JETT, he is probably one of my favorite secondary characters that I have read in quite a while. The connection that Jett and Ellie has sure shines through in Claimed. Jett has always been there for Ellie. He was the one person she trusted and relied upon. So to see their friendship still blossoming and growing in this series, thrilled me.

Kayne, he is another story. Kayne is very possessive to say the least, but I have to say that I felt more connected to him while reading Claimed. I loved seeing him open up. I loved to see another side of him than the one I got to know in Owned. Kayne secured a soft spot in my heart. One that he has 'claimed".

"Your naked body should only belong to those who fall in love with your naked soul - And I own both, Kayne"

I jumped right into this after I finish the first book. Often you find the second book doesn't live up to the first, but that's not the case here. I fell even more in love with all the characters and story line continues to captivate me. Kayne and Ellie continue to bring new emotional and physical heights to the story. Oh did I mention these are smoking hot too.

I wasn't thrilled with the lack of character development and lack of information on what the characters were thinking in OWNED (DECADENCE AFTER DARK #1) yet decided to read this book anyway..... I am SO glad I did! CLAIMED is so much more than I had expected after reading book #1!

In CLAIMED, we get to see the real Kayne. He is still strong, Dominant and demanding but in this installment he lets down his guard and we get to see his romantic, sensitive side too. We also learn about his past and why he is the man he is now. Kayne still lives and works with Jett so we also get a peek at how they work plus a glimpse into Jett's love life (including up to a steamy hot ménage scene)! Despite this added level of depth, romance and passion, like book #1, CLAIMED is still fast-paced and suspenseful. I absolutely loved this book and because of how well it's written, I will continue to read books by this author.

To say that I love this book is an understatement. I completely fell in love with Kayne, Ellie and Jett in Owned. So much so that I had one hell of a book hangover in which I reread Owned at least a dozen times. Claimed is that and so much more.

Claimed will take you on an emotional roller coaster. We learn much about Kayne's background and why he is the way he is.

And the sex scenes. HOT!!!! So hot in fact that I felt like I needed a cigarette afterwards.

I don't want to say much more and give anything away. But M Never has created characters that have burrowed their way into my heart captured my soul.

4.5 Stars!!!

I was a HUGE fan of Owned by M. Never. It was dark and gritty and captive and kinky and all those things I LOVE in a book and with that massive cliffhanger, I have been dying to get my hands on Claimed. I mean come on! I have to know what happens to Cupcake and Kayne, like NOW! (oh and on a sidenote…if you haven’t read Owned, stop here and one click it because you have to have read Owned before you can read Claimed.)

As soon as I started reading Claimed, I knew this story was going to be different from Owned. It had a very human feel to me. M. Never really capitalized on the healing process of Ellie and Kayne and honestly it is what made this story. It made it real and it gave these characters some integrity. The attraction was still there on Ellie’s part, but the trust….now that was a different story. I truly have to give M. Never props for the way she wrote this part of the story. If it had been written any other way, if there was no baby steps, then this book would have been kind of a farce to me.

Anyone who read and loved Owned is going to go through a few growing pains with Kayne and Ellie. Their road is not easily paved, but when the truth comes out and Kayne can finally reveal his motives and trust in her to understand his issues of control, it all falls in place. I loved the reveals and getting the answers. I loved that Ellie still leans on Jett for support. He was her rock in Owned and the fact she still calls on him for advice really resonated how much Jett meant to Ellie. It is through some of these conversations we get a better understanding of the man Kayne is and of Ellie’s fears of being with said man.

Claimed is still full of kink and action and sexy times and intrigue and mystery but on a different level. We still get macho Alpha male Kayne, just now he has to show his heart. Ellie has even a stronger backbone and again I really loved her sticking to her guns and showing Kayne that if she is worthy then he is going to have to work for it.

I know that M. Never had a vision for this book. A vision that she was worried about coming off all the dark, captive, non con things that happened in Owned and I totally think she nailed that vision. You will get the human aspect, you will get the dark side, you will get your erotica and most definitely you will get emotion out of it. I have loved this journey with Kayne and Ellie, and my only hope is that Jett has something coming too….cause let me tell you folks….he is one kinky special ops man!

I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review!

I had so much fun reading the first book in the series. This book was a surprise. We get to really get to know Kayne and I loved that. We watch his struggle as he tries to win Ellie back and make her trust him.
Ellie herself has moved on since she was set free and when Kayne returns she is not sure if she can trust him again. The book mostly covers the reunion. What I would have liked is this; I wanted more development of the major twist that happened near the end. It seemed that we get overly detailed scenes that we didn't need and the big turn is covered in a few pages.
The author has a great writing style and this could have been a solid 4 star read for me if the big twist was developed a bit more.
3 Stars from me.

This book was a little bit different from the first one. I personally found it more enjoyable. I'm just glad that Ellie didn't let what happened to her ruin her. We really get to see her strength and fighting spirit in this one. I appreciate the lengths that Kayne was willing to go to in order to protect her. And the fact that he stayed by her side while they both healed from the wounds that life inflicted upon them.

Side note: how great were Jett, London and CJ? A great support system.

Fave quote: “You fill a piece of me I never knew existed, never thought I deserved. You’re the best part of all my sides, all my faces. You’re the glue. Thank you for being everything. My strength, my light, my hope, my warmth.”

I have been waiting rather impatiently for M. Never to complete Claimed. Owned was f@cking brilliant and I really wanted to know what would happen with Ellie and Kayne. Well, damn…my answers came in Claimed.

It picks up approximately one year after Ellie is “released” from her capture. She’s been through hell and back trying to make sense of all that happened. She’s relocated to Hawaii to go to college and make a fresh start. But she’s still having problems coming to terms with the love/hate she still feels for Kayne.

For the past year, Kayne has been dying inside. He’s absolutely, totally, completely in love with Ellie. He’s been giving her space and time. But time is up!

With an invitation to join him in Bora Bora, Kayne is giving Ellie the opportunity to know the real man that he is and to see if he can convince her that his love is real. But will she truly give Kayne and a relationship with Kayne a chance?

I LOVED this book. Seeing Kayne reveal his vulnerability and true feelings for Ellie was amazing and I had many “aw, damn, Kayne, I’d fall in love with you” moments. Ellie and her resilience were fascinating. M Never’s writing of Ellie’s anger and distrust of both her internal feeling and her feelings toward Kayne was mesmerizing. Plus, add in the sass and sarcasm of Jett and this book was bloody brilliant! ~ Missy, 5 stars

~~~
Holy son of a monkey’s uncle, I did NOT see that coming! It slapped me in the face, and just, wow.
For full understanding in this book, you need to read Owned as this is not a standalone and starts after the first one ends.
Ellie and Kayne’s story continues. And when I got this on my Kindle for review, I actually stood up and did a happy dance! This book is very different that the first one, but no less intense. There is still hot sex, collars and spankings, so don’t be sad when they end up being a bit different.
Both Ellie and Kayne struggle to mix who they are with who they were at The Mansion, and at times I wanted to climb into the story and smack them upside the head. They are both passionate about what they want, but have a hard time communicating just what it is they want.
Can they go back to having a great sex life with some play or will everything be vanilla? What happens when revenge knocks of the door? Can the two of them move past all the deception be just be happy? So many questions! And you will have to read the book to find the answers!
The one thing I did not like about this book was when Kayne gets angry, he gets mean. To me, words can hurt more than fists or anything else, and sometimes his words are like a sharp sword. ~ Devlynn, 4.5 stars
It had been so long since I had read Owned by M. Never that I had forgotten how much I enjoyed Ms. Never’s vivid writing. Well, after reading only two pages into her newest book, Claimed, the second book in the Decadence series, I was reminded of how enthralling her storytelling is and how compelling her characters are.
Claimed is about forgiveness and acceptance. Ellie needed to forgive and accept Kayne but she also needed to forgive herself for enjoying her time with Kayne and learning to accept what she wanted and needed. Ms. Never wrote beautifully about learning to understand what makes us happy and then admitting to ourselves what we need and finally being okay with our desires. Kayne needed to forgive himself first. Then he needed to listen to Ellie and acknowledge that she knew herself well enough to know she would be okay with Kayne’s version of loving.
In fact, it was this self-discovery by both characters that make this such a compelling book. Kayne and Ellie have been so changed by their circumstances and by each other. This sort of change can often be difficult to embrace and watching both of them come to terms with everything kept me glued to the pages. While Owned focused on the sexual aspect of Kayne and Ellie’s relationship, Owned focused on the emotional side. As a result, this book tugged at my heart strings and even brought me to tears a few times.
In Owned, Kayne was a difficult character to like. In Claimed, we get to see the softer side of Kayne and learn more about what makes him tick. With this insight, it is much easier to understand how Ellie can love this seemingly harsh man. I believe that it is Ms. Never’s ability to write these three-dimensional characters whose feelings and actions are so authentic, that I was able to change my mind about Kayne and see in him the romantic hero that I was hoping for.
While there was a lot of emotional discover, don’t think that Ms. Never didn’t include some unbelievably erotic, steamy sex. When Kayne and Ellie get together in the bed, or anywhere else for that matter, your temperature is going to rise and you will find yourself hot and bothered. Ms. Never’s vivid descriptions made me feel like a voyeur and let’s face it, just a little bit jealous.
Please be aware that Owned is a dark erotic and there are several scenes in the book that may be triggers for some people. However, there is so much love mixed in with the darkness that you can’t help but see the light. But if you can understand that this is what both Kayne and Ellie need then you will be able to enjoy what is ultimately a story about love. And what a beautiful love story it is!
Another 5 million brilliant stars! *** I thankfully received an ARC for an honest review ***
I was already Owned, and now I'm totally and absolutely Claimed! Holy shit, Kayne and Ellie had me captivated once again!
The second book in the Decadence After Dark series comes with a warning as well, and I can only recommend to read it carefully. It's hot and sensual, but there also some scenes and especially one part in the book that could trigger something for some.
It's a year after Owned ended, after Kayne's mission ended and his life turned upside down and he lost all sense to live. Ellie left him for good without him being able to explain what happened. Not everything that happened during her captivity was played. But he wishes once more that they could have explored that side of him in a safe and consensual environment. It's at a time when he hits the bottom and with the help of his best friend, Jett, that he knew he will fight for what's his.
After a year, Ellie has rearranged her life...new island, new school, new friends. But still, she can't forget the one man she tries so hard to forget. Forget what he did to her. Never wanting to be owned again. Yet, she questions her feelings and why she can't forget Kayne.
When Jett appears on her doorstep with an offer, to meet on neutral ground, she doesn't have to think twice. And if only it means to find closure.
On the beautiful island of Bora Bora, both start to realise that the feelings are still strong. And when both let go of insecurities and walls start cracking, they discover that the hotness, the chemistry and the kink are still burning high. But is Ellie ready to be Owned and Claimed by Kayne?
And what is going on with that lingering threat? A threat that shortens their timeout and their life. It's then that something real bad happens that might be too much for some. But it's part of their story and influences their relationship.
For all those who fell in love with Jett in Owned, you will love him even more now...or a little less. But he proves to be the friend that Kayne needs as he takes no shit. I do hope he gets his own book because his life takes such a fun turn and I would love to see that happen.
It really is a must read.
Love was never easy. But Ellie and Kayne took it to a higher level. I am in love with these two. Never a dull moment. They are always pushing the limits and breaking their boundaries while building new ones. I love their honesty and dynamic. They are so passionate, sexy and loving. And the best thing? They accept each other, no questions asked.
“Ellie, you’re the one person who can destroy me. You’re my sin and my absolution, my indulgence and my starvation, and every right to all my wrongs.”~
Ellie tried to fight her true self and her need for Kayne and his lifestyle, but she couldn't. She was conditioned for/to it.
He made the new Ellie and she doesn't want to change that.
I liked her relationship with Jett and how she always seeked his advice.
But I swear to god, Ellie can never run far from problems and drama. She is like a magnet, attracting them.
What I admire the most in Ellie is her strength. She never backs down and she fights and fights. She doesn't want to be weak again and that's what makes her worth it.
“I love you. I have always loved you. Even when I hated you, I loved you. And I love you even more now.”~
Kayne has so many emotions bottled inside that he never fails to surprise me. He is different. He is a man, but that never prevented him from showing his feelings. He is strong, but he allows himself to break down every once in a while. He admits freely that he needs and loves Ellie, and no matter how dominant he is, he is still afraid everytime that Ellie would leave him. I just can't... Kayne is too much!!!
Second books in any series are always a hit!! They are the best. Everything happens in second parts. I love love love this series. Thank you M. Never!!!
Ellie thought she could escape Kayne, but she was so wrong. He already claimed her since day one.
THIS IS A BOOK YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS READING!
M.Never is an amazing author and her writing will have you hooked from the beginning. This book deserves more than 5 stars!
The words that came to my mind after reading this emotionally hot book were AMAZING! BRILLANT! HOLY HOTNESS! This book will have your panties melting and your heart thumping by the end.
I absolutely love Owned and the cliffhanger killed me, so I was super excited to read Claimed finally. I have been sitting on the cliff edge waiting to find out what happens next. I was not disappointed! I had this book read in a few hours and had a hard time putting it down. I fell in love with Claimed!
Claimed is a fun, kinky and sexy book that you will love. This book picks up right where Owned leaves off in the storyline, so you will need to read Owned before Claimed. The storyline will have feeling like you are riding this incredible HOT emotional roller-coaster along with the characters that only M.Never can take you on.
If you loved Ellie, Kayne, and Jett in Owned then you will fall head over heels in love with them in Claimed. Any thoughts or conceptions you had about these three characters in Owned well throw them out the window. Your mind is going to be blown away because everyone always has two sides to them. You experienced one side of these characters in Owned, but now you going to experience the unexpected side of them in Claimed.
So, sit back and enjoy this amazing ride.
I highly recommend this must read book. If you are having doubts about this book DON’T! Grab your copy and enjoy!
