At the first law school in America, you'll find displayed a replica of the lectern used by Tapping Reeve (the founder of Litchfield Law School) and the judge's chair used during moot court sessions.

Tapping Reeve conceived of the idea of lecturing students about the law to prepare them for their bar exam and law practice. At the time, lawyers learned their profession through apprenticeships. According to the Litchfield Historical Society-- students took copious notes that were later recopied into leather binders.
