Surin village devastated by storm

Residents of a village in Muang district of Surin province were left shattered by a summer storm that damaged more than 60 houses, uprooted big trees and caused a power blackout on Tuesday, reports said.

According to Bancha Suikhong, chairman of the Tangchai tambon administration organisation, the storm struck Ban Khok Kruat in tambon Tangchai about 4.30pm.  Many uprooted trees fell across roads, ostructing traffic and bringing down power lines and poles and causing a blackout throughout the village.

About 60 of the 120 houses in the village on Surin-Chom Phra road were damaged, most of them with corrugated roofing sheets blown away by the storm.

Four or five houses were totally destroyed.

Mr Bancha said he had sent officials to assess the damage and asked the Muang district chief to dispatch relief teams to the village.
