Ajith resented his father getting married again after the death of his first wife.

The Byappanahalli police, on Tuesday, arrested a 19-year-old PU dropout for allegedly stabbing his stepmother Chaitra to death at their house in Suddaguntepalya.

The police suspect that the teen, Ajith, resented his father Shivakumar getting married again after the death of his first wife. Ajith’s mother Shobha had killed herself seven months ago, allegedly because Shivakumar was having an affair with Chaitra.

Shortly after the death of his first wife, Shivakumar — a welder — married Chaitra. She moved in with him with her three children, said the police adding that Ajith would often fight with his father, blaming his new wife for the death of his mother.

On Tuesday, around 11.30 am, Ajith went to Chaitra’s house and, finding her alone, stabbed her on the neck and fled the scene. The victim rushed to the street bleeding profusely and screaming for help. According to the police, she told neighbours that the assailant was Ajith.

She was taken to a nearby hospital but succumbed to her injuries. The police tracked Ajith to a relative’s house. He has been booked for murder.
