Several buildings in Portland evacuated because of gas leak

PORTLAND, Maine — The Portland Fire Department says several buildings are being evacuated because of a gas leak.

The gas leak was reported at the corner of Congress and India streets.

Officials say Unitil is on scene along with the fire department to secure the gas leak and monitor the buildings for gas levels.

Traffic is being rerouted, and significant traffic delays should be expected near the East End.
