Aren't opposites supposed to attract?

Ever since I fell in love with Jake as a teen, I've thought of him and me as opposites that would one day complement each other.
Unfortunately, adulthood has only increased our differences and to Jake, and people around us, we're more like clashing colors that should avoid mixing.
Jake is a scientist who only believes in things that can be proven with hard data while I'm a psychic medium who works with spirits and tarot cards.
I know he thinks people like me are frauds, but I've been given a chance to prove him wrong. The lab where Jake works is dealing with paranormal phenomena and his boss has hired me to investigate it. If I can produce evidence strong enough for the biggest skeptic to take me seriously, maybe Jake will finally see me as more than his best friend's younger sister.

Violet is the second book in Elin Peer's contemporary romance series Clashing Colors. Science and faith face off in this story full of lovable and witty characters, displaying a firework of humor, sizzling romance, and the supernatural.

If you like stories that offer much more than just a romance, and you don't mind a paranormal twist, then Violet will have you laughing out loud and reflecting on your own spiritual beliefs.

I don’t really get where the author was trying to go with this one but I clearly didn’t get there with her. I didn’t like the supernatural aspect to this story. It became a huge part of the love story and Violet was just hard to connect with.

I have been dying to get my hands on this book since I finished Black (book 1 of the Clashing Colors series). Elin Peer has a way of making you feel like you are in the story experiencing everything the characters are. I have read lots of books and I have never come across a character as unique as Violet. She is one of those characters that you love instantly. She is quirky but also so endearing. I also LOVE that she is a medium. If you are looking for a book with a well written unique story line Violet is the perfect choice. I am so looking forward to reading the next book in the series!!

If you're looking for a book with your traditional characters in a romance novel, a similar plot to what you have read already a million times and a love story that falls perfectly in place with no logic or sense then this book is not for you. The characters in this book are far and few. You have a medium and a scientist on opposite spectrum on just about every aspect except for how they feel about each other. This books takes you on a journey that no book as ever even come close too.
While this book could be read as a stand alone it's best to read Black Clashing colors #1 1st to really get to know the caste of characters in which Violet's story developes from. While reading Black I wanted to know Violet's story and here it. But while getting my answers on Violet's story I now find myself on quest to find out more about Melody which is carried on in Green Clashing colors #3.
A remarkable series that makes you want to learn more about all the characters and keeps you reading until the very end.

2.5 stars. it was a good book but the heroine really lacked backbone. she never set some of her friends straight in the end about the encounter they had with her old bullies and she should never have married jake right away after the crap he pulled. he was consistently insensitive throughout the story and he could have been redeemable, but he had a lot of work to do, yet she still married him. she also never confronted her brother about the shit he pulled at the end either. violet is a good character but she needs to have a little more pride in herself and not be such a doormat.

Loved this book. Probably my favourite of the series so far. Really loved the roller coaster of emotions between Violet and Jake. Also, enjoyed delving more into Violet’s work and lifestyle. I like that there is always far more to Elin Peer’s books than your standard boy meets girl love story.

I received this book through Bookfunnel for an honest opinion. In Chasing Colors, Violet is a psychic who was tormented and ostrasized as a child because of her abilities but now helps police locate lost children and priests with exorcisms. She's loved her brother's best friend Jake since she was 11 years old. When they were younger, Jake told Violet's brother he had kissed his sister and really liked her which proceeded to get him a black eye and being told to never touch her again. Although Jake's always been smart and has grown up to become a scientist, he sometimes lacks common sense. Sometimes it put me in the mind of Phoebe from Friends having a conversation with Sheldon Cooper from Big Bang Theory, can you imagine?

Elin Peer has the unique quality of taking actual scenerios and adding a twist to them. Even though each of these books can be read alone, there are certain scenes I've noticed which have taken place in both books that you recieve a different perspective on, which makes things interesting. The characters have flawed and quirky personalites that will make you roll your eyes and say OMG!! wondering what they were thinking. At the same time, you have to keep going to see what's going to happen. This was a terrific story and am excited about starting the next one.

I was sent this book as an ARC by the author.
I really liked this book, which is another unique work by Elin Peer. This book was well written and totally captivating; my tip would be to read it on a weekend, so you don’t have to put it down.
This book is about self-belief, as shown through Violet’s determination to use her gift to communicate with the living dead to help find missing children; a job which although emotionally draining is an occupation which she takes seriously.
Violet’s belief in her abilities has alienated her from her family who do not believe in her gift and think she is ill; having repeatedly tried to cure her, by placing her repeatedly before doctors, their relationship is severely strained; this resulted in Violet isolating herself.
Apart from a few close friends she has made, who are very protective of her. Life for Viiolet is challenging; it becomes even more demanding when a job she is on links in with an old crush Jake, who is the best friend of her brother; whilst Violet would love nothing more than a relationship with Jake, he is clearly on the disbelieving side of her life; which doesn’t bode well.
This book could go in so many ways, but, you will need to read it to find out what happens

Ok read

The first book was good. A bit strange with the whole daddy and diaper issue but I got past that. The writing and story made sense. This current book was disappointing because:
1. Jake is a weak man. Honestly a wuss. He cries, acts out, says mean things to the woman he supposedly loves; through the entire book, he literally has zero redeeming qualities that I care for.
2. They were both sleeping with other people and didn't have a relationship with each other till 70% in to the book! I mean, come on Elin! Their story was literally 50 pages long.
3. There literally was no chemistry between them. Also, no sex scenes. Really.

I downloaded the book series and feel like I must read them, but honestly I'm only doing it because there's nothing else to read. All the men in these books are weak, mean bullies not in a good way, not Alpha males. I'll be reading Christian and Melody story next and based on this writer's style, if it continues, I expect to be done reading in 30mins as I'll be skipping pages. These books are probably intended for high schoolers and not adults because the characters are juvenile and behave like juveniles.

If you are an adult, find something else to read. Ekin, pick up your game.

Really enjoyed this story of Violet and Jake. Even though Violet graduated with a degree in anthropology she knew in high school that she has the gifts of a psychic medium. Her family and friends love her but think that she is a fraud and more than a little weird.

Violet has had a crush on Jake her older brother's best friend since they were kids. He even gave her the first and best kiss she ever had when she was 14. Jake never went near her again after that. They accidentally meet as adults when Violet is hired to get rid of a ghost at a laboratory where Jake works. It doesn't matter that Jake pretends he doesn't know her or that she goes along with it. It doesn't matter that Jake works with his fiancee. Love finds a way.

I cheered for Violet throughout the entire book for sticking to her beliefs no matter who was against her. Sometimes Jake was just stupied but I love the two of them together. Loved seeing all the colorful characters Melody, Christian, Cia, Gabriel and Darren who is a hoot. Looking forward to reading the next book.

I finished this but I struggled a bit towards the end. The premise is really sound with opposites fighting attraction to each other. Violet is psychic and Jake is a scientist. She is called in to investigate paranormal behaviour in his lab and he treats her like crap because he is embarrassed to know her.
She's heartbroken that no one understands she actually helps people. She's actually a very nice character. But I found the characters a bit all over the place. Violet is mostly submissive and innocent but then has these flashes of overtly sexual behaviour that just don't seem to fit with the rest of the story. Jake is basically an a-hole the entire time until a very sudden backflip at the end, which led me to question why Violet would continue to tolerate him.
Overlaying all of this is the reason why Violet was called into the lab in the first place - I felt this part of the story was concluded weakly. More could have been done here. I was a little disappointed with this book as it promised more than it delivered.

I enjoyed this book. Violet and Jake were really meant for each other. My greatest pleasure was the dialogue between Violet and Darren. My biggest disappointment was the sex scene between Violet and Adam. It just didn't make sense that a near virgin (1 prior partner years ago) would just have sex with a friend. And that scene was glossed over. I like to see and hear everything. I hate when things are in the background. I suspect that Adam is going to be in another book. Thats going to be awkward for the reader. I did like the paranormal possibilities the book suggests. The book affected me because you never know how people who are considered weird or Goth feel deep down. This book gives some insight. I was confused by the whole vision of Christian having sex with Jakes girlfriend. I thought the solving of Ben the ghost mystery was incomplete. Did Violet do what he wanted her to do? overall enjoyable read. I kind of hope Darren has a book.

This is the most bizarre series, which I'm really enjoying, and I am seriously a big fan of Elin Peer. She writes such interesting stories that don't feel repetitive of everything else I've read, which can be hard especially in the romance genre and because I read a lot.

Book one was kind of crazy, and book two took things in a whole different yet interesting direction. These 2 characters, at their core, have very different beliefs and values, so watching them try to reconcile that kept things tense and emotional.

What I like most is that when I open each new book in this series, I have absolutely no idea what to expect. Then, just once I think I'm settling into the story and know what's going on, there's always something throw in that takes me absolutely by surprise. I like that.

The narration for the audiobook is by Noelle Bridges and John Masterson, and they do an excellent job. I enjoy the contrast between the two readers.

An enthralling story!

After reading the first book in the series, I delved right into this book. I must admit, though, the book could be a stand alone as it went right into Violet's life & you didn't miss anything by not reading the first book. This was another quick read for me, similar to the first in that I lost myself in the story & finished it in just two sittings.

This book definitely had a few twists & turns that I didn't expect. The emotion it was written with was so tangible, though. I really felt like I knew the characters, & I was immersed in the story.

The only reason, as usual, for not giving 5 stars is for editing that could have been better. It wasn't so much that it took away from the story, but it definitely distracted me at times.

After book one I really didn’t know what to expect from Elin Peer. However this book goes in a completely different direction. Violet’s and Jake have completely different views on the world. I really enjoyed Violet her ability to look at the world in a whole different way.

I really enjoyed how the author was able to basically come up with a completely different romance book than the first one. A lot of time when you read a series in romance all books are pretty much the same with just a small different plot twists. It was nice to see this be something completely different and still be able to pull me in just as much as the first book.

This book was narrated by Noelle Bridges and John Masterson, they did a great job.

"Someone who challenges the way you see the world, and who defies the logical way your mind works."

I was looking forward to this story and enjoyed the main female character but again the male lead turns out to be very unworthy of her, his treatment really leaves a lot to be desired. I found the ending not to my taste and struggled to finish. I probably won't read another book by this author as I can't seem to like the male leads it spoils the book for me, I get the feeling the next book Green will be the same and Daniel doesn't have his own book so I I'm done with the stories that would interest me. It's a shame because the writing style and general story are good.

I am having a hard time with this series. I really like the characters, the writing, and the storyplot but the depth just isn’t there. In the previous book, they skated over the deeper problems and the same could be said for this one.
The HE is constantly having to suffer other’s opinions and gets no “justice”. She is hurt time and time again by the H, but takes him back as soon as he finds out he wants her. She is supposed to be this confident non-conformist but comes of more as a doormat, which is really annoying as she is a great character.
I don’t know, I’m annoyed and don’t really want to continue the series 😒

All I’m going to say is WOW! I’d give this book ten or more stars if I could. Every book that I’ve read from Elin Peer is fantastic. I love her writing style and I love how she able to keep you sitting on the edge of your seat wondering what’s going to happen next.
Onward I go to find another book from her to read because I just can’t seem to get enough of her extraordinary ways of weaving her stories.

I've read Elin Peer's slave series books and fell in love with her as an author. When I found out she had another series - Clashing Colors, I couldn't wait to start reading those. Violet is the second in that series. I started it this morning and just finished it. I have NOT been disappointed and cannot wait to start the next one! I love her characters hate to finish reading her stories because I end up feeling like I'm missing my good friends!

Wow! This is the second book in the series. I knew I would enjoy the story because Violet was introduced in the first book and I liked her character. Violet was ridiculed in school and as an adult people aren't much nicer. She fell in love with her brothers best friend when she was 14. Jake is now a scientist and doesn't believe that Violet is psychic.
I strongly recommend this book and find out how Jake feels about Violet.

Loved it

I love the relationship between Violet and Jake. It shows that just because we don't understand someone being different, doesn't mean that you can't find a common ground to live in tune. Loved how the author explained it all. Love CIA! Highly recommend this series. Now on to Green..

Another great book by Elin Peer. This book had me challenging and thinking of my own beliefs which is one of the reasons that I enjoyed it so much. I have a girl crush on Violet and want her to be my best friend. Her and Jake's story are sweet but also shows how hard it can be to see and accept someones beliefs (or in this case abilities) when you are scared.

DNF: 75%

Was ok/semi-entertaining to begin with (I like the brother's best friend) trope, but I got tired of the whole medium vs scientist plot. Not really interesting to me, but I get that this whole series is opposites attract, so in this sense, it's original - still, I prefer more stereotypical opposites attract tropes.

2.5 stars - I didn't buy into the whole idea that Jake had been carrying a torch for Violet for years and had been merely suppressing it. He was embarassed to be associated with her, and he considered her a joke. There was no respect there and frankly he was a douche 80% of the book. I didn't like them as a couple and their romance was way too far-fetched.

Violet and Jake???

I enjoyed this 2nd book so much more than the 1st book! I enjoyed the storyline more and how Jake really felt toward Violet his entire life but kept his feelings hid but poor Violet never gave up on how she felt about Jake. Violet is such a strong woman like we all should be and we should be true to ourselves!

Okay so I was really excited to see this book but I was a little disappointed. It was just okay for me. I was happy for Violet but I just needed more convincing that Jake had gotten over her "gift" or at least believed her

A well written book with a two sided story, she believes and is a physic and he only believes if it can be explained by science. Opposites certainly attract. Elin Peers writes a great story that brings out the characters being perhaps someone next door. Roll on the next book.
