Screw Up is the first Tinseltown Temptress novel, and as a whole I enjoyed it. I know I gave it a three star rating, but it’s really more of a three-point-five, sitting between the three and four stars. I had a massive debate as to whether I should round up or down, but in the end I opted for rounding down. Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable read and I will be picking up the second book to see where this story goes.

Screw Up promised to be a drama filled read – I expected lies, sex, secrets, and much more. Whilst I was given these things, they weren’t quite given in the way I had expected them to be. We have our main character playing out the role of the world’s first celebrity sex reporter. We have our main character dealing with a troubled past relationship. We have our main character involved with investments that are failing. We have our main character dealing with family drama. We have all of these things, and yet at times it felt as though those things were there but they weren’t really adding to the story. Alone, each element held some interest – collectively, nothing really stood out and everything was simply there.

The story around the world’s first celebrity sex reporter was extremely interesting. We get to watch as our main character goes out of her way to bed the sexiest men on the plant, along with getting to read what can be called a report card of their performance. This aspect made for highly entertaining reading. It wasn’t quite the erotica a part of me had been anticipating, yet such was not a bad thing. There was plenty enough so that you could gauge which of the celebrities knew what they were doing in the bedroom and which did not, whilst ensuring the book did not become a smut fest. In short, there was a nice divide between the sex aspects of the story and the other aspects.

As I said, it’s the collective aspects of the rest of the story that didn’t quite live up to expectations. I had expected a lot of drama regarding the past relationship, yet this aspect of the story wasn’t really of interest to me. References were made and details were given, but I was never really pulled into the story. It was just there. The failing investment aspect was more enjoyable, as it opened up a number of avenues and introduced us to some interesting characters. It was a lot more interesting, and was probably my favourite part of the non-sex storyline. The family drama was another aspect I didn’t care much for – it was only towards the end that I found myself interested, mainly because it opened up possibilities for the future books. Mostly, the family drama felt as though it was clichéd: whilst it had some unique aspects, for the most part it was something I’ve seen before.

In the end, I came to one conclusion: it’s a lot of set up. It’s the first book in the series, and I feel as though all of the things I wasn’t completely pulled into will be dealt with in the future books. I feel as though there will be a lot more drama in the future books, I feel as though I will be pulled into the storyline a lot more. When I look at this book as a means of setting up the series, it’s a four star read; when I look at this book as pure enjoyment, it’s more of a three star read as I wasn’t as engaged as I had hoped to be. Hence, it’s a middle of the road rating.

Nevertheless, as I’ve already stated, I’ll be giving the next book a read. It has left me interested to see where things go from here: I truly believe the next book will earn a solid four stars from me, as there’s a lot of promise of where things will go.

This book caught me unawares in as much as the path taken by the main character, stopped me in my tracks and made me seriously question what the heck was going on.
It made me take a good hard look at what Cassie was doing and seriously consider at whether I could accept and understand it.
That aside , I will say that it was difficult not to love Cassie herself, she was just such a fabulous character but her new job, well that did have me scratching my head for a little while.
But this budding writer, taking a job where she could expose first-hand (if you get my drift!) the sexploits of the rich and famous was something that was new to me, I was intrigued to find out how she would handle such an emotionally charged role.
Her private life was woeful to say the least, she had, had little opportunity to make her mark on the world, well not in a positive light anyway. Everything around her was falling apart – he mother was practically banging on prison’s door and her boyfriend (or more accurately her ex-boyfriend) was heading overseas, so she takes the plunge, into the world of celebrity and all that, that entails because she learns that she has to dump the water-wings early on because in this pool, you learn to swim pretty damn quickly.. Keeping her head above water is not an option it is a necessity – she is with the big guys now and the outcome is far from certain.
Now I can understand her desperation, hence her accepting the role at the online publication, I could also understand the infatuation with celebrity but I felt as if she had sold her soul for what seemed like their gain and not hers.
I couldn’t help but question the premise of what she was being asked, the expectation that she was not only effectively pimp herself out but that she was to also publish and to relish reliving in print her sexual escapades with the rich and famous. Really had me conflicted!!!
I found my solace in the fact that desperate people do desperate things and this I think was the fact that I needed to reconcile the whole storyline.
And so I read on.
It is safe to say that Cassie actually took her role in hand and relished it in some respects but could she really hide forever behind her Tinseltown Temptress façade, only time would tell?
She was far from shy with the detail that she laid to print and I was again left questioning the morality of what she was doing, but regardless of the thinly veiled literary disguise, she was unable to keep her persona hidden and the kickback is something she would have to learn to handle, and pretty damn sharpish!
I liked Cassie as a character and I sort of understood why she did what she did, and I have to say that the author produced something that I can only describe a uniquely funny and very clever book.
She gave Cassie a character that was easy to love and to empathise with if not to fully understand some of the time but she was a clever, funny and seriously sexy woman, who took no prisoners and showed that she was a woman to be reckoned with.
A work that makes you work to truly understand its brilliance is a rare find, it was a story that kept my mind engaged.
This was something a little out of the ordinary and that is only to be commended!

This is not my usual genre by any stretch of the imagination. But it is good to to step out of our comfort zones sometimes and read something different, that might make us even a little uncomfortable at times ~ this keeps us on our toes and stimulates us to think about things and life differently. So when the author asked me to read an advance copy of this book for her, I did. And I am so glad that I said yes!

This is not just your run of the mill smut book ~ it is way more than that. Intelligently written, witty and at times laugh out loud funny, I really enjoyed the character Cassie and her exploits. She is a take no prisoners kind of character, with a snarky attitude and a wide streak of independence. She has her own agenda and refuses to be ashamed of her sexuality; in fact she owns it.

Is it a way I would live my life, or do I totally agree with all of Cassie's choices? Well, no, but that rarely happens when reading a book anyway. Characters should challenge you and encourage you to think about things from a different perspective, and I think this book accomplishes that. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a strong female character with a bit of sass, and doesn't mind kink with their love stories.

I was given an advance copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review. I was also asked for my input regarding editorial changes.

Screw Up was my first book by Alexis Wilder and it won't be my last.

Cassie has hit hard times. She can't find a job, her mother is heading to prison, and her love life is non existent. All of these issues leave her feeling desperate, so when a new acquaintance offers her a well paid job to write for his online publication, she jumps at the chance. However, there's a big catch; she's assigned the celebrity gossip magazine's new beat, the sex desk. She has to score with a big name actor, and then tell the readers all about it in graphic detail. With her new name, Tinseltown Temptress, she thought she would be shielded, but she quickly learns it doesn't protect her from the consequences of her stories. As her personal life falls apart, will she sink or swim?

This book was an out of the box, interesting read. Cassie was a great character and easy to love. I honestly physically felt, and understood her desperation, as she wasn't left with a lot of other options. She is a smart, funny, sexy, and independent woman. The beginning was a bit confusing for me, so it took me a bit to figure out what was going on, but as I kept reading, I became fully invested in the book. All in all, Screw Up was a cleverly written, laugh out loud, sexy story. I will definitely be reading more of Alexis Wilder in the future, and can't wait for more of this series.

Ohhh my damn.... It's a hot read to be sure, but more than that, Screw Up is funny and endearing and smart. Cassie is wonderfully and terribly human, and I loved every minute of reading her story. Or at least the beginning of it (I also read the sneak preview of book 2 and am READY for it!). Cassie owns her sexuality and refuses to be shamed and that is what I like to read. Her new job is reeeally dubious and makes you wonder, but in a fictional world where there are no real injuries, it makes for a delightfully naughty fantasy. Cassie herself struggles to reconcile her feelings on having jumped into such a morally-ambiguous career, and we are given insight to her thoughts and are able to experience her process of acceptance of her passion for her new career, which I think adds enough believability and realism to the character and the story to carry the reader away from doubt and fully onto Cassie's side.

A Really Great Read
This was a terrific, intriguing book. I found myself racing through the pages, I absolutely love Cassie/Sid and feel that she is so real and relatable that I became really invested in her story. I was completely transfixed by her complicated nature. There is so much erotic heat in this book that you will curl your toes more than once to be sure, but the story doesn't get lost in the eroticism, and I love that. I definitely recommend this book if you are into the genre and I can't wait for book #2. I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I should probably start off by admitting that I am definitely not the target audience for a novel like this; I tend to skim over detailed sex scenes in books, and my idea of "adventure" falls firmly into the "magical prophecy" sort, rather than navigating the world of celebrity culture. But I've been trying to expand my literary horizons and read outside of my comfort zone, and after receiving a free copy of this book from the author, I decided to give it a shot!

Much to my surprise, Screw Up was a pretty quick read for me--I flew through some of the chapters in a rush, interested in seeing where Cassie's celebrity sexcapades would take her next. The characters are pretty distinct, the quips (mostly) work, and Cassie is such a mess that you can't help rooting for her...even when she does things that are morally questionable at best and (yes) screwed up at worst. At times the sex seemed to overshadow the various subplots, but I do understand why it was so important, given the nature of Cassie's career and the extent to which her job drives the story; it's definitely not gratuitous, but for me it was a bit much at times. Totally a personal preference, though, and I'm sure lots of readers will get a kick out of Cassie's articles.

Long story short: if you like snarky heroines, steamy hookups, celebrity gossip, and scandal, you'll find a lot to love in this book and its sequels!

First a note to the author: Why did you leave me hanging like that (Smiles) at the end, such a huge cliffhanger, I can't wait to have answered in the next book.

OMG, this book was fantastic. I was skeptical at first because it starts off with the first article and while I do love to read articles, it was a little confusing to see where the book was heading. Once I realized the pattern the author took, the book was great. Cassie is off as the Tinseltown Temptress, luring celebrities to bed and then writing about it.

Cassie really draws you in because she not only gets about, but she also has some home life issues such as her boyfriend leaving her, her mom breaking in when ever she feels like it, and her holy sister.

The characters are very complex and the author details them so well, I would love to learn more about her family and her close friend. I hope they continue into the next book!

Irresistible Temptations...

Funny stories of a woman in a desperate situation. You'll laugh, feel bad, wish you were her, be glad you aren't, depending on which story she is after! And now a bit about the story...

Cassie (aka Sid aka Lana) was dumped by her fiance via a text message from a burner phone. Now she needs to find a job and hopefully get out of his apartment before he returns from his European tour. Only problem is her newly acquired job requires some special skills she isn't all that thrilled with. Can she see past the bad and do her job?

Favorite passages:
- “Would you like an autograph?” In spit, on my thigh.
- “Trudy’s cuts people off at three of those. It’s enough liquor to get a bear drunk.”
- She liked his disarming sense of humor. He liked that she ate like a human woman, rather than a bunny picking at a salad.

First of all I give this book 5/5 stars, I loved this story so much! This kinda surprised me because I'm not usually into erotic fiction: The sexual encounters in erotic fiction are often inflated and unrealistic, which is why women read them, I get that. We all want our husbands and lovers to be Don Juans, each time we do the deed it is MINDBLOWING… wouldn’t that be so perfect. But you and I know that is so far from reality that it’s a joke. This book is so much more realistic with the sex then *few* other erotic novels that I have read in my time.

Cassie is a beautiful woman that likes to have lots of sex, so when a job opportunity falls directly in her lap (so to speak) to do just that, she nabs it up. The job is to use her feminine wiles get famous men to sleep with her, and then she dishes on it to the paparazzi in the form of an article, which in this story is a website similar to TMZ. She gets to job(s) done alright, sometimes it’s steamy and sexy and sometimes it’s really not sexy at all. Every erotic novel is filled with sexual encounters that some women will only dream about in their lifetimes. As every woman in America can tell you, and as the main character can tell you here as well, that is not always the case. The sex is explicit (it’s an erotic novel) but it explores how coupling is sexy, fun, sometimes awkward, sometimes funny, all things that we have all experienced, and even some that we haven’t (hopefully)!

WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THIS BOOK

I love the way that the novel is set up. First we get to read the article that she has written for the website, then we get to see what really happened in the next chapter, and I loved that aspect of the book.

Cassie is a realistic character and I loved her. She is a modern woman with a criminal for a mother and a bitchy sister. She agrees to sleep with these men and write about it, and in her articles she comes across as cunning and sly, willing to do whatever she can to sleep with these men, but she does have an attack of her conscience frequently.

My most favorite part is in the very beginning of the last article, when she speaks directly to the double standard that all of us women are forced to answer to eventually, even if you are careful about who you sleep with. She says “So I’m not sorry or regretful in the least, just courteously dismayed that all of society is judging them based on their sexual decisions. Must be tough guys.” ZING!! GET IT GURL!

FINAL VERDICT:: This book was given to me for free in exchange for a fair and honest review. That being said, still I can’t stress enough how much I liked this story, even putting the sex aside. It actually had a plot, and a great one too, and it made me laugh out loud at a couple passages. When I got about halfway through I couldn’t put it down because I wanted to know what was going to happen with our leading lady! This book is fab fab fab: It’s definitely worth the read and I just can’t wait to dig into the next one!

4.5 stars- A surprising score

I love trying new, relatively unheard of authors because every so often I find a writer to love and follow who takes me completely by surprise. Screw Up was the first Alexis Wilder book I had the pleasure of reading, but it guaranteed that it won't be the last. The writing flowed well, making the story come alive. The pacing was the perfect blend of detailed stories that moved along quickly without getting bogged down with monotony. The main and supporting characters were fun, well-rounded, and interesting. I absolutely loved the female lead, Cassie. The book is told in her POV and includes articles she writes as well as the stories behind them. Cassie's flaws and strengths were flushed out throughout the book, making her likable while retaining believability. The story- and Cassie in particular- had a fantastic blend of humor, sexiness, and seriousness woven throughout the book that left me eagerly turning the pages with a smile on my face. Beyond having all the elements of a good story, I loved how fresh the plot was, especially how it flipped the more traditional roles of the male play boy and modest female lead on its head. The ending also isn't the traditional HEA. I'm not sure I'd classify it as a true cliffhanger, but more of an open ending that left me wanting to read Cassie's next adventures soon. While I may have scrolled past Screw Up based on the cover alone, I'm glad I stopped to read the blurb. If you like books featuring a strong, self-assured female lead, love some humor, and are in need of some sexy stories- Screw Up is a can't miss.
