HONG KONG – Hong Kong acting veterans Cheng Pei-pei and Kenneth Tsang joined the cast of New Zealand romantic comedy “Girl Meets Boy,” the feature debut of director Roseanne Liang for South Pacific Pictures.
Cheng, who made her name in 1960s Shaw Brothers martial arts epics such as King Hu’s “Come Drink with Me” and later starred in Ang Lee’s “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” plays alongside Tsang as the Hong Kong immigrant parents of a New Zealand-born young woman who falls in love with a European New Zealander.
Tsang has starred in over 150 films in Asia and Hollywood, including John Woo’s “A Better Tomorrow,” Bond flick “Die Another Day” and Jackie Chan’s “Rush Hour 2.”
“Girl Meets Boy,” financed by the NZ Film Commission and scheduled for March 2011, is adapted from director Liang’s 2005 documentary “Banana in a Nutshell,” which took the Best Director of Documentary prize at the 2006 Asian Festival of First Films in Singapore.
