It is a nice sounding idea, and I was understandably really excited. I read all the directions I could find, watched videos, tried to do everything right, and it just never seemed to equalize. A month in and I haven't felt comfortable putting fish in for fear they would insta-die. The topping on this cruddy experience was the led hood broke today, so now no fancy or nice lights, and it has only been a month!

I would never place a live Betta fish in a container that holds 5 gallons of water. I you never conduct a partial water change will result in your fish living in a sewer. Yes, Bettas can survive in adverse conditions for a while. For me survival is not good enough I want my fish to thrive. If your interest is low maintenance after you bring home your Betta throw it in the toilet, very low maintenance.
