- Act 2005
- It is an Act of the Parliament of India enacted to protect women from domestic violence.
- “child” means any person below the age of 18
- Victim can approach the ‘Protection Officer’ or the ‘Service Provider’ or the police or a Magistrate directly.
- Officer appointed by the State Government - Protection Officer
- Aggrieved person/Protection Officer/Any other person on behalf of the aggrieved person may file an application to the magistrate
- The Court of judicial Magistrate of the First Class or the Metropolitan Magistrate shall be the competent court to grant a protection order and other orders under this Act.
- Came into force from 2006 October 26.
