Women's Basketball Unveils 2018-19 Schedule

PHILADELPHIA - Entering his 10th year at the helm of the Red and Blue, head coach Mike McLaughlin has announced the upcoming 2018-19 schedule for the University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team. 

The Quakers, coming off their fifth-straight 20+ win season and sixth-straight postseason appearance, will host 13 games at The Palestra and feature marquee non-conference contests including a game at defending national champion Notre Dame, a holiday classic at Navy, and a New Year's Eve bout in Florida, in addition to the yearly slate of Big 5 matchups. 

Non-Conference Schedule...
at SIENA (Saturday, Nov. 10): The Quakers will open the season on the road at Siena, facing the Saints for the third time in program history and first since 2001 ... Penn took the first meeting, on January 6, 2001, winning in New York 88-79, while Siena returned the favor at The Palestra the following December, handing the Red and Blue a 73-65 loss ... 2017-18 record: 17-14 11-7 MAAC.

at NOTRE DAME (Monday, Nov. 12): Penn makes its second trip all-time to South Bend to face the defending national champions ... The Quakers and Fighting Irish faced off last season in The Palestra, as Penn held Notre Dame to its second-lowest point total all season (66 points) ... Penn is 0-4 all-time vs. Notre Dame, with three of the four meetings coming under Coach McLaughlin ... 2017-18 record: 35-3, 15-1 ACC; ACC regular season champion, NCAA champion. 

vs. SAINT JOSEPH'S (Thursday, Nov. 15): The home opener will also serve as the Big 5 opener for the Quakers, who will begin their title defense against the Hawks ... The Red and Blue grabbed their third victory over the Hawks in program history last season, winning 57-50 on Hawk Hill, en route to a share of the Big 5 championship ... By calendar date, Nov. 15 is the earliest meeting in program history between Penn and Saint Joseph's ... 2017-18 record: 19-15, 10-6 Atlantic 10; Advanced to WNIT.

vs. NJIT (Saturday, Nov. 17): After claiming the NJIT Christmas Tournament title last December, the Highlanders will make the short trip from Newark to add to Penn's busy opening week of play ... The Quakers are 3-2 all-time vs. NJIT, but have won the last three meetings, including a 77-38 win last year ... 2017-18 record: 4-26, 2-12 ASUN.

at NAVY (Saturday, Nov. 24) Navy Classic: This will be the 10th meeting all-time between Penn and the Midshipmen, and fourth for Coach McLaughlin in his time with the Red and Blue ... The Quakers will play two games in Annapolis as part of the Navy Classic the weekend following the Thanksgiving holiday ... Penn has captured wins the last two meetings vs. Navy, winning on the road in 2014, and most recently notching a 57-43 victory at The Palestra in 2015 ... 2017-18 record: 25-8, 13-5 Patriot League; Advanced to WNIT. 

vs. MAINE (Sunday, Nov. 25) Navy Classic: Part two of the Navy Classic will pit Penn against Maine ... The Quakers have faced off against the Black Bears just once in program history, landing a 69-48 win in 2010 at The Palestra ... 2017-18 record: 23-10, 13-3 America East; America East regular season and tournament champion, advanced to NCAA Tournament.

vs. LA SALLE (Wednesday, Dec. 5): Penn will continue its four-game home swing against the Big 5 with a December match up vs. La Salle, the lone city team to defeat the Quakers last season ... La Salle leads the all-time series 35-10 and has won two-straight over the Red and Blue ... Prior to that, Penn had won four-straight in the series from 2012-2016 ... 2017-18 record: 8-22, 3-13 Atlantic 10. 

at IONA (Saturday, Dec. 8): This will mark the first meeting between Penn and Iona since 1982 ... The Quakers are 1-1 all time vs. the Gaels, posting a 74-71 win in 1980 and falling on the road, 53-51, in 1982 ... 2017-18 record: 2-28, 2-16 MAAC.

at DREXEL (Friday, Dec. 21): After a three-year hiatus, the Battle of 33rd Street will renew as Penn makes the short trip to the DAC to face the Dragons ... Drexel holds the slight edge in the all-time series, 14-12, while each team has taken three wins apiece in the last six meetings, each winning at home ... 2017-18 record: 27-8, 16-2 CAA; CAA regular season champion, advanced to WNIT.

at STETSON (Monday, Dec. 31): The calendar year will end in The Sunshine State for Penn, as the Quakers face off against the Hatters for the third time in program history and first since 1988 ... The all-time series is locked at 1-1, with the Quakers winning the most recent match up, 85-72 ... 2017-18 record: 17-15, 8-6 ASUN. 

vs. VILLANOVA (Wednesday, Jan. 16): Similar to Saint Joseph's, Penn notched its third victory in program history over Villanova last season, in arguably the most thrilling game of the year, defeating the Wildcats on the road, 79-77 ... The win was the highest-rated win for the Quakers since in the inception of the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI), as Villanova was ranked 13th at the time of the game ... 2017-18 record: 23-9, 12-6 BIG EAST; Advanced to second round of NCAA Tournament.

vs. TEMPLE (Wednesday, Jan. 23): For the 50th time, the Owls and Quakers will tip off on the hardcourt, this time at The Palestra to round out Big 5 play ... Temple leads the all-time series 34-15, though Penn has found success of late, winning four of the last six meetings, including a 74-59 win last season to clinch the Big 5 title ... 2017-18 record: 12-19, 3-13 AAC.

vs. HAVERFORD (Sunday, Jan. 27): The final non-conference game of the season will pit the Quakers against first-time opponent Haverford inside The Palestra ... 2017-18 record: 21-7, 16-4 Centennial; Advanced to DIII NCAA Tournament.

Ivy League Weekends...
February 1/2 - at Cornell, at Columbia
*Penn swept this road trip last year and has done so five of the last six years. 

February 8/9 - Brown, Yale at The Palestra
*The Quakers rounded out the year with a home sweep over the Bulldogs and Bears last season, and has swept this weekend the past five years. 

February 15/16 - at Dartmouth, at Harvard
*Penn split this road trip last year, falling at Harvard, after previously sweeping the weekend for three-straight years. 

February 22/23 - Columbia, Cornell at The Palestra
*The Red and Blue swept this weekend last year, and have done so each of the past three seasons and five of the last six. 

March 1/2 - Harvard, Dartmouth at The Palestra
*Penn has swept this home weekend each of the last six years.

March 8/9 - at Yale, at Brown
*The Quakers have gone 2-0 on this road trip in five of the last seven years. 

The Princeton Rivalry...
Saturday, Jan. 5 at Princeton; Tuesday, Feb. 26 at Penn
*The Quakers will open their Ivy slate of competition against Princeton for the 14th-straight season with a road contest on January 5, before hosting the Tigers at The Palestra for a midweek match up on February 26. 

Ivy League Tournament...
Saturday March 16 and Sunday March 17 at Yale
*For the third-straight year, the regular season will be followed by the Ivy League Tournament, as Penn hopes to finish in the top half of the Ancient Eight to qualify. The tournament will take place at Yale's John J. Lee Amphitheater. The top four regular-season finishers will advance to the event, with semifinals taking place on Saturday and the championship game on Sunday. While the team that finishes the regular season with the best conference record will be declared the official Ivy League champion, the winner of the Ivy League Tournament will receive the Ancient Eight's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
