NWPlayer123's leaked Switch information, compiled into one thread

Rumor

Update: The developer docs this information came from have been leaked.

NWPlayer123, someone who has been reliable in the past, has leaked some Switch information on their Twitter account. I organized the leaks into a thread. Remember, these are not confirmed, so please take this information with a grain of salt. Each point has a link to the source Twitter post or an image from the leaker. The leaker has said that their documentation is from July of last year, so some of it may not still apply.

Take these leaks with a grain of salt. Worth mentioning is that this leaker also said that Nintendo would not use the Nvidia chips in the Switch.

Also said Octolings were playable in Splatoon and doctored their own "proof" to prove it.

u/GredaGerda avatar

Really? They were doctored? Dang.

Yeah, you can do just about anything you want when you hack the game.

u/FierceDeityKong avatar
Edited

They were at first, but then later it was discovered (I don't know if she was the first one to discover it) that there really was an Octoling player model in the game. Nintendo just never added the option in an update. In fact, it will show up in your game if a hacker is in a match with you as an Octoling, but this makes the game crash when the Octoling is in the plaza.

Kind of. At first, it was just a model swap. NWPlayer just swapped the Female Inkling model with the Octoling model, she never claimed they were fully functional. However, she later discovered that changing the player gender value in the save data to 2 (0 for Female, 1 for male) would make the player a fully functional octoling. Again, not doctored. This wasn't proof that playable octolings were coming soon, but rather that fully functional ones were in the game, but unused.

These leaks aren't actually "from" NWPlayer. She's just posting them on behalf of the person who sent them to her, and they're not the only people who have seen them.

This looks fake as all hell. I hope I am right too. There is no way that 1TFlop can play anything in 4k that isn't 8-bit.

u/dreamsomebody avatar

It's 4K images/videos not games

Nicknames are still limited to 10 characters.

rip xXxpussydestroyer420xXx

Edited

We already basically knew this. No clip of Splatoon 2 has used more than 10 characters and several names were awkwardly shortened to fit.

EDIT: Apparently the spectator mode video has "Cuttlefresh", which was formerly named "CuttlFresh" in other videos, but I think that name is just edited in because at the start of the video, you can see that it's the Japanese version of the game. Also, when they superjump to a teammate, you can see that the name does not line up perfectly with the superjump marker.

Cuttlefresh

I've always found it funny we can explore these fantastic 3D worlds, but our name can't be more than 10 bytes.

u/mito551 avatar

lol, nice point. where is our paid subscription money going to, right?

'Bluetooth 4.0 + LE' Even though the Switch has 4.1. Yep, definitely taking that with a pinch of salt. Also thats from July too, and the October devkits were said to be even stronger.

u/Roshy76 avatar
Edited

That's what I'm guessing is that this is the pre October dev kits specs and that the October ones are beefed up a little. How much we won't know til the 3rd. I'm guessing somewhere between this and the foxcon leaks, but that both are wrong. Unless something super credible comes out leaking specs I'm just going to wait til the 3rd to believe anything. And at this point, the units already in production, I have my preorder, so I guess I really don't care what it is? But I do... but I guess I really don't ?

Someone needs to steal one and break it open, not that I'm advocating for this.

u/Roshy76 avatar

Someone needs to have an accident at a preview event ;)

Spawn Wave needs to wreak havoc to create a diversion with his hammer, and someone will quickly nick one and reveal it to the world. NOT that I'm advocating for this, again.

Those specs are just another copy of the [Jetson TX1 Devkit] (http://images.nvidia.com/content/tegra/embedded-systems/pdf/JTX1-DevKit-Product-sheet.pdf) from 2 years ago again.

We know at the very least for a fact that the APU is Custom, so when you see specs like this that list stock configuration of a 2 year old devkit you know it's false right away.

Yes they may have been using this Jetson TX1 Devkit to develop games with very early on because they were readily available at the time the partnership between Nvidia and Nintendo started. However it was confirmed they recieved upgraded devkits, which most likely contain the new apu. Whether it is pascal or maxwel is anyones guess, but we know it is custom and we know it is not a stock configuration Maxwell TX1.

u/Bruuntuun avatar

Exactly. Why would they brag about how long they have spent designing the Switch then release a regurgitated X1 with a new stamp. It will 100% not be a stock X1 but it could be similar. I find it hard to believe it's the same as the new Shield TV. Just seems so bizarre.

Bluetooth specs are wrong. So there goes all that credibility

u/llethal01 avatar

If you have been following this kind of stuff for a while you know this is totally untrue. Even official documents have "errors"

The specs list also said Bluetooth 4.0, when we know the Switch uses 4.1. It looks outdated to me. That said, it was dated back in July, and the devkits were reported to be a lot stronger in October

u/SmileyAja avatar

So it's basically the same thing as the one from a day or two, nothing new and very likely developer kit if not fake.

The specs are an exact rip.

I think the most bs part of this is that the game cards only go up to 32gb, that sounds way too small to be true.

Well since Zelda is only 13 gb I'm not sure how big the games on the system are going to be.

iirc Steep is already around 25 gb

These aren't leaks... most of the things linked to here were confirmed in the presentation and on the website. The rest of the stuff is extremely old news... and highly inaccurate

u/llethal01 avatar

The specs are old. A lot of the small details are very new.

Thanks! Hopefully the part about the console supporting voice chat is true.

u/Interstellar-Metroid avatar

This is the same as every other so called specs leaked. I don't believe it.

Bear in mind that this specs leak was from July. The October devkits were said to be even stronger.

so having specs on video encoding and not game rendering is legit :) it must be. the point is, this is not the final version. just one of the devkits.

u/stayfreshguaranteed avatar

Ugh, why are they tying save data to the system? Hopefully there will be some form of cloud storage option tied to Nintendo ID.

u/incyk avatar

If I had 2 switches, would I be able to download a game on one account thats linked to both systems, and have the game on both systems?

the screenshot resolution is aweful :( and no png? whyyy

u/vashgodz avatar

If the spec are true , that's good or not ?

Mighty for its size! Doesn't quite spec up to the xbone (about 1/2) BUT software / dev tools could help bridge the gap. Assuming any of this is true ofc.

we know everything already, no leaks at all lol

u/Vaktrus avatar

Switch confirmed by Nintendo as having bluetooth 4.1, yet this says 4.0. Yeah I don't exactly believe this.

The last tweet is already known information from Nintendo's site...are they passing that off as new?

I see words and numbers! Lots of them! Stupidity of mine aside, has anyone done a really in depth comparison between this leak and what the Xbone and PS4 offers? I understand that this leak is unconfirmed and likely has changed slightly specifically for the Switch, but I am curious what these words and numbers actually mean.

u/gfunk84 avatar

Boo, JPEG for screenshots instead of lossless PNG.

u/Eternity128 avatar

I don't know... Using Maxwell for a portable device seems a little sloppy

u/MuhGnu avatar

That would be like using jaguar for "next gen" home consoles...oh wait!

That was in 2013 when Jaguar was still relevant since the successor didn't come out till mid 2014. The point here is power efficiency isn't as important on a home console as it is on mobile.

u/kajunbowser avatar

Do remember that it isn't using Maxwell circa 2012, but the latest that that the architecture was pushing, which wasn't that long ago. It was part of the deal to keep costs down.

That said, I would have gone for Pascal, but it would put it as Tegra X2, which is more expensive.

I think he is correct. I know his source has access to the Wii U dev portal, and possibly the early Switch portal.

This is from July after all.

u/mito551 avatar

I'm a bit disappointed about maxwell, but it's not a deal breaker. it still runs games, right? :)

This is actually from July, and the October dev kits were said to be stronger. Take it as what you will.

u/mito551 avatar

a couple of months isn't going to make much of a difference. the thing about maxwell vs pascal that i'm concerned with most is pascal far superior efficiency. so tegra on pascal could have the same performance, but with better battery life.

Maxwell and Pascal are similar architecturally, so a few months is feasible.

u/mito551 avatar

wait, but what about production of retail units?

Must have started in October when it was announced.

It's not just a couple months though, development on the Switch could have started as soon as Nvidia partnered with Nintendo. You see the [Jetson TX1 Devkit] (http://images.nvidia.com/content/tegra/embedded-systems/pdf/JTX1-DevKit-Product-sheet.pdf) was in production before the partnership even formed over 2 years ago. So when Nvidia And Nintendo Started their partnership around March 17, 2015, they could have been using those Jetson TX1 Devkits for a long time before the new models rolled out with the Custom Chips. Two years also would have given them enough time to finish the pascal variant.

so tegra on pascal could have the same performance, but with better battery life.

This is what would have allowed them to develop on the Jetson TX1 in advance, since they are so similar performance wise. Then they would just need final tweaks on the software for the new models.

u/mito551 avatar

huh, interesting! i should stay hopeful then, thanks.
