Facebook 'Holiday on the Road' Competition

We recently ran our Holiday on the Road competition on the Auto Europe Facebook page and what a success it was!

Thousands of Facebook users viewed the post in which we invited people to send us their best holiday stories (with pic attached), and we received many great entries from all over the UK.

The winner of our grand prize (an £80 Auto Europe car hire voucher) was a lovely English lady called April, who sent us a fantastic photograph taken with friends before heading off to Scotland on a wonderful summer 2018 road trip.

They enjoyed the sights and sounds of the United Kingdom’s northernmost nation whilst travelling the length and breadth of a country considered by many people to be one of the world’s most beautiful and welcoming places.

Full of stunningly breathtaking landscapes, and blessed with many unique traditions and a captivating history, Scotland is a magnificent country to hire a car, travel around and generally get immersed in the local culture.

April described her time in Scotland, explaining how they drove to the Highlands and ‘climbed Ben Nevis’ (pictured right), which at 4,411 feet is the highest mountain in the British Isles. It took them eight hours to get to the summit and back, but we can only imagine the head-spinning views they enjoyed along the way!

Besides relaxing ‘at a secret beach and enjoying some fabulous scenery’, April and her friends visited Loch Tummel (left)  near Perth and ‘sampled some whiskey’ at one of Scotland’s famous distilleries.

Although April won our summer Holiday on the Road competition, we’d also like to shine some light on some of the other amazing entries we received, each accompanied by a fantastic photograph taken during the trip.

For instance, Paula Hunt from Treharris in Wales impressed us with a lovely photo she took of some iconic gondolas in Venice with a note telling us that she’d ‘left a piece of her heart there’. Haven’t we all at some point in our lives?!

And there was Elloise Birch from Shoreham-by-Sea in England who drove all the way down to sunny Spain, where she came across (and posed for a cool pic with) a gorgeous tabby cat in a local café! Happy days Elloise!

Another of our favourite Facebook Holiday on the Road competition entries was sent by Emma Dormer from Loughborough in England, whose enjoyable tuk-tuk ride with her family along the sea front in sun-kissed Lanzarote looked just the ticket!

And Alison Crook from Marlow in England sent one of the whackiest photos of all, featuring herself and some friends she called ‘Scooby and the Gang’ standing in front of the famous Mystery Machine in Barcelona, where they had apparently ‘solved another case’! It all sounds like a shaggy dog story to us!

Last but definitely not least, we’d like to give a shout-out to Karen Weedon from Romsey in England who sent us a brilliant picture of herself standing in front of a windmill (Holland, perhaps?) poring over a map: ‘I got lost on the bike,’ she wrote, ‘but next time I’m taking a car with a satnav…’
