Germany will give Bangladesh 200 million euro for extreme weather, energy security, good governance

Germany will give Bangladesh 200 million euro in aid to tackle climate change impacts, build energy security, and ensure good governance.

German Ambassador to Bangladesh Thomas Heinrich Prinz made the offer when he met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office on Wednesday.
 
Her Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told reporters the German envoy praised the progresses Bangladesh made on social and economic fronts.
 
Prinz told the prime minister Germany would continue to partner in the development efforts of Bangladesh, he said.
 
Karim quoted the German ambassador as saying: "Bangladesh is on the right track."
 
Prinz said his country would increase the number of German scholarships for Bangladeshi students from the present 1,500 a year.
 
He said Bangladesh held potentials in biogas.
 
According to Karim, the German ambassador praised Bangladesh’s founding father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who was “a famed orator and German people hold high regards for him”.
 
Prinz referred to his visit to the victims of the BNP-led alliance’s agitations who are being treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s burns unit.
 
He said Berlin wanted to assist Bangladesh in establishing another burns unit.
 
Hasina praised Germany for its support in the development efforts of Bangladesh since independence.
 
She urged German entrepreneurs to invest in Bangladesh saying it was an ‘attractive place for investment’.
 
The prime minister said Bangladesh and Germany could forge cooperation in shipbuilding sector.
