Eagles camp opens in Uyo as B team prepares to face Atletico Madrid later on today

NIGERIA'S World Cup camp has opened in Uyo with players pouring into the Ibom Meridian Hotel where the squad is based as soon as it opened yesterday as they prepare to watch the Team B play Atletico Madrid later on today.

 

Yesterday, the 30 players on head coach Gernot Rohr's provisional World Cup last began trickling into camp in preparation for their first friendly against the Democratic Republic of Congo next Monday. Among those who are already in Uyo include Arsenal's Alex Iwobi, vice captain Ogenyi Onazi, Elderson Echiejile, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Junior Lokosa, Ola Aina and William Troost-Ekong.

 

Today, the squad will start training at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. Team coordinator, Patrick Pascal, said coach Gernot Rohr and other members of the technical crew are already in Uyo and itching to get on with the training programme.

 

After playing the Leopards of DR Congo on Monday, the Eagles will proceed to London, where they will play England at Wembley Stadium on June 2. After that, the squad will fly to Austria where it will face the Czech Republic before proceeding to Russia for the World Cup.

 

Already, the Akwa Ibom Police Command has said it will deploy 424 police personnel to ensure adequate security of life and property during today's international friendly between the Super Eagles and Atletico Madrid. Police spokesman Macdon Odiko, said the match will be played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo at 6pm but the gates will be open from 11am.
