Hyundai Construction Equipment to roll out TAB boom options across excavator range

Korean construction equipment manufacturer Hyundai, are set to expand the option of two-piece booms on its wheeled and tracked excavator range.

Hyundai Construction Equipment to roll out TAB boom options across excavator range
Two-piece booms commonly known as TAB have long been extremely popular in many parts of Central Europe and are increasingly being specified by contractors around the world engaged in construction, utilities and urban infrastructure projects, where the combination offers the end user greater flexibility and versatility in terms of reach as well as reduced front swing during tight quarter work like single lane closures. Hyundai Construction Equipment will now make its two-piece boom option available from the factory for the types of hydraulic excavators listed below: Tracked excavators (crawlers):
  • HX140 L: 14,000 kg, 93 kW, 0.23 to 0.71 m³
  • HX145 LCR compact radius excavator: 14,950 kg, 93 kW, 0.23 to 0.71 m³
  • HX160 L: 18,100 kg, 102 kW, 0.4 to 1.05 m³
  • HX180 L: 18,600 kg, 102 kW, 0.4 to 1.05 m³
  • HX220 L: 22,100 kg, 136 kW, 0.5 to 1.85 m³
  • HX235 LCR compact radius excavator: 24,000 kg, 136 kW, 0.5 to 1.34 m³
  • HX260 L: 30,200 kg, 180 kW, 0.52 to 1.85 m³
  • HX300 L: 30,000 kg, 212 kW, 1.44 to 2.10 m³
Mobile excavators:
  • HW140: 13,880 kg, 117 kW, 0.23 to 0.71 m³
  • HW160: 17,100 kg, 134 kW, 0.40 to 1.05 m³
  • HW180: 17,800 kg, 134 kW, 0.40 to 1.05 m³
  • HW210: 21,200 kg, 137 kW, 0.80 to 1.34 m³
The two largest Hyundai hydraulic excavators HX260 L / HX300 L coming with two-piece boom options are available both in narrow and wide chassis variants; all undercarriages are designed as LC (Long Crawlers), since this is the standard undercarriage offered by Hyundai in Europe. All Hyundai two-piece boom excavators come with the boom articulation cylinder mounted to the underside of the standard boom, a solution ensuring effective protection against soiling and damage. The HX220 L is a typical example. Its 5,650 mm standard boom can be equipped with three dippers ranging from 2,000 to 2,920 mm in length. Compared to the monoblock boom, it comes with a few hundred kilograms less lift capacity. This is owing to the plus in mass of the two-piece boom and additional boom articulation cylinder. All HX excavators come with a load torque monitoring system integrated with the hydraulic/electronic system.
