Two extremely powerful storm systems simultaneously pummeled opposite sides of the globe last week, with Florence causing heavy flooding and damage in North and South Carolina, and Mangkhut wreaking havoc on the Philippines and parts of China, including Hong Kong. We’ve compiled a list of organizations on the front lines helping the victims of these brutal extreme weather events.

In disaster situations, monetary donations are often preferred over physical items, as CBS explains. Be sure to reference Charity Navigator before giving to an unknown organization.

Global Giving has launched a Hurricane Florence Relief Fund to meet survivors’ immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, hygiene products, and shelter. Once initial relief work is complete, the fund will transition to support longer-term recovery efforts run by local organizations in the community, a statement reads.

Per the New York Times, the NBA and Michael Jordan (who owns the Charlotte Hornets) has set up a microsite directing people to local organizations. Both North Carolina and South Carolina have set up specific funds for recovery efforts.

To help the littlest survivors, Save the Children and the Diaper Bank of North Carolina could use your donations. Best Friends, an animal sanctuary, has a landing page with useful information.

Focused on long term recovery efforts, Habitat for Humanity has set up a donation page for those affected. “Long-term recovery needs tend to be the most underfunded aspect of disaster response and recovery,” a statement from the non-profit reads. “Storms like Florence tend to most adversely impact the lower income populations that Habitat serves.”

Amazon announced that if you have an Alexa-enabled device, you can donate directly to the Red Cross’ Florence relief efforts by saying, “Alexa, make a donation to Hurricane Florence.”

Global Giving also has a Mangkhut relief fund that will help first responders and then transition to local efforts for long-term recovery. Other global non-profits supporting Mangkhut survivors include Oxfam, CARE, Unicef, Save the Children, and Relief International.

Give2Asia has a list of local partners its supporting with a fund, and the Philippine Red Cross is taking donations.
