The next chapter in the Bewitched and Bewildered series is about to begin. Meryn and Beth have been summoned by Beth’s uncle and council elder, Magnus Rioux to the vampire’s pillar city of Noctem Falls. Meryn in a city of vampires, what could go wrong? Aiden and Gavriel are about to find out. Eva Mae Miller has been around for a long time. But never in all of her centuries has she ever had to turn to vampires for sanctuary. But when whole paranormal families begin disappearing in her quiet Texas suburb, Eva knows that it’s time to set her pride aside and join the other refugees heading to Noctem Falls for protection. Adriel Aristaios doesn’t know what to make of the small human his commander is mated to. Bethy assures him that Meryn is sane, but he’s not so sure. Magnus had to be out of his mind bringing a pregnant human and accident-prone Bethy back to the City of the Night, just as things are about to get ugly. To complicate matters Adriel is pretty sure the sassy, blonde shifter is his mate. How can he possibly do his duty and protect their Prince, when he has not only his commander’s mate and little Bethy to guard, but also the woman who has stolen his heart. When racial tensions threaten to boil over and sink the city in chaos, Adriel surprisingly finds himself relying on wacky little Meryn and his mate to help keep things from turning violent. But as more information comes to light, it’s clear that someone is out to destroy his city. The question is will they find them in time?

4 Meryn in Vampire land Stars

Spoilers

reread 5/28/23

Alanea Alder is great at writing books that have me cracking up. This book was just as funny as the others in this series. I really love me some Meryn so I love that she was a big part of this book. I know some readers would like each book to be just about the new couples but I really enjoy Meryn and the on going plot. It kinda remembers me of another series I love were the first couple is a main focal point.... Vampires in America(Cyn and Raphael). I will say the couple Adriel and Eva are a total insta-love couple. It didn't bother me though as I can accept that pretty easily in paranormal romances. I did wish there was a little more relationship development with Adriel and Eva which is why I gave this book a 4 star instead of 5. They were cute together, but I could have used a little more passion. I love that Beth is pregnant. In this book Meryn says how vampires are douchebags. For the most part I agree the vampire in this series come off stuck up and douchey. I did like Adreil and I love Gavriel but most the vamps are asses. Overall I really enjoyed this book. I can't wait to see what new trouble Meryn gets into.

I love it!!! I wanted to read this story for so long and I'm so happy that I now finally did it. It's just a make you feel good book with amazing funny characters. Not to mention some crazy ideas. ;) I wished there was more action in it but there was plenty of laughter and great plot twists, so that filled up the rest of the missing action. I always like to read books that are a series, since you get to see the rest of the characters again and they always evolve or just brighten the plot. Every character bring something unique to the picture. This time it was Eva that was in a way crucial to solving the new vampire problem. Yes, the others were important as well but Eva was just a tad bit more so. I love how easy her and Adriel's relationship was. There was really not much drama and simply just lots of fun and great dynamic. The new characters we met are also super great and you get to love them quickly. I already know whos book is going to be next and I'm quite interested how that turns out. I hope we'll get to see Meryn and Beth again and not just the characters from the Vampire city.
All in all, I really enjoyed the new story and hope the next one comes out real soon. :)

IT MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS, WELL... IT DOES!!

Mmmm, not exactly what I was expecting, I missed a bit more action, a bit more mystery and a bit more confrontation with the nobles.

Also, this love story felt awkward, the center of the story was Meryn, and it felt like the dual pov was only to narrate Meryn's doin'. Aaaaaand 2 "meh" sexy times...

I missed the fact that Eva apparently did not had THE mate dream, and her pov before the pack's decision to go to the vamp city, why did they go?
I missed the fact that Eva's character was not truly explored, it felt like she had no real purpose but to narrate what was goin' on. She has a past (forged in blood and kindness), is accomplished and independent (owns a bar) aaaannnnddd a warrior in her on right, hence the title "My Guardian", but it felt so dull, no want's, like either open a bar in the city or insist to become the 1st female warrior in history, or somethin' else...

Adriel pov wasn't that better, also has no want's, like... He is a prince too, albeit in secret, but doesn't see that assuming it, it would help a lot matters in the city, more dullness...

Their romance was just too easy, without the dream it makes it even more weird, cause she just practically jumped is bones, ok, there is that thing, the mate thing, but still...

To resume it felt more like the first chapters of a bigger book, lots of new characters to learn, ruling differences (we did not met this city's council), and no sense of some closure, no real accomplishment, no new bad guys secret revealed to help make sense of the bigger picture.
Just... meh.

I'll admit i'm a bit disappointed. :(

When I started this series I thought it had a lot of potential. But for the last 3 books the stories haven't been that good.

I have said before and I'll say it again, Alanea gives too much page to Meryn. We get it, she loves the character but we the readers want more.
In the previous book I didn't mind as much because the plot moved forward. The couple wasn't good but hey we found out some big things about the curse and the plans of the bad guys.
But in here? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I'm not exaggerating, seriously nothing happened.
This book only served to introduce a new batch of Possible H's which is ridiculous because there were plenty of guys in Lycanoa.

The h was introduced almost at the 40% mark!! What the..? And the insta love was ridiculous. The previous stories had a little bit more of the couples getting to know each other but that was non existent here.
And of course the h was another Meryn minion. Because besides Elizabeth all of the h's in the series have the same personality.
I hate Meryn. She's disrespectful and immature (I'm pretty sure she's in her 30s) but no matter what everyone loves her.

So I think this is it. This is the end of the road for me and Bewitched and Bewildered. If she ever writes a novella about Ryu I might read it but I'm done with this series because I don't like Meryn and obviously everything is about her.
I'm out.

I was so excited for this book! I love the world the author has built in this series! It was great to see Meryn, Aiden, Ryuu, Gavriel, and Beth again and I loved the new characters too. Because of all the characters and the suspense plot I didn't feel like we got to know the couple as well as we got to know couples in other books, but it didn't diminish my enjoyment at all. Eva and Adriel were a great couple and very well matched. They were sweet together. I liked the unit members at Noctum Falls although there was one that came across as a total manho and I would not be interested in reading about him. The H for the next book was great though and I look forward to the next book!

Meryn is back with Beth in tow heading to Noctem Falls to investigate disappearances of couples and help with the integration of the refugees into a mostly inhabited vampire city. Vampire Adriel Aristaios has been dreaming of his mate, he is concerned for her safety and when he meets Eva Mae Miller, a cat shifter, he is pleasantly surprised. Eva adjusts seamlessly into his life, well there are a couple of hiccups but overall they are perfect. Except someone is killing shifters and protecting a tenacious Meryn seems to take more than one person.

The gangs almost all here but another delightfully entertaining read from Alanea Alder. Several extremely funny moments between Eva and Meryn. This is such a great series, if you are looking for a quirky, humorous, paranormal series this is it. Excellent.

I have really been enjoying this series. Each book is a story within an ongoing story.

This book takes us to Nocturn Falls. We meet unit commander Adriel, who is a vampire. When trouble brings a tiger shifter named Eva to him, they immediately know they are mates. This was a good story that was safe from cheating and ow/om drama. No pushing away which is one of the reasons I enjoy this series. I didn't feel like there was as much couple time in this story. It had a very short epilogue that was a set up for the next book.

I have my moments with Meryn. While I have found some of her antics just downright annoying, for the most part she cracks me up. She has a way of worming her way into everyone's hearts.

I look forward to the next book in the series, hopefully it won't be a long wait.

3.5 stars - I truly wish this book was longer and more plot development, even though we know this a continual series but this book felt unsolved with its main "crime".

I'm an absolute lover of this series, and book 6 is no exception. My favourite character, Meryn, is large part of this particular novel, and as I suspect with many other readers, she is certainly a character to love and this tightens the series together most effectively. The editing could have been better, but there was not enough errors to diminish the quality of the novel.

The love and magnetic attraction as part of the 'finding my mate' angle could have delayed the 'instalove' and I will admit that the lack of a developing relationship together with the banter and situations it might present, was definitely lost in this book. The reader knows that the series is about finding your one true love, and this could have been featured more intensely. A focus on the bewitching attraction and burgeoning recognition that comes with the discovery of identifying one's mate would have been appreciated rather than the point blank thrust of a sole mate.

Nonetheless, this is one of my favourites in this series. I'm looking forward to reading the next novel already.

The truth will set you free

I just can’t stop myself from reading this series over and over again. I especially enjoy this book as we meet new people and get to investigate a new city. That doesn’t mean our favorites are left behind, what would this series be without the alpha unit. I have read it many times before, but I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Beth'in amcası Prens Magnus bir bildiri yayınlar.

*****SPOILER ALERT*****

In this book Meryn, Aiden, Beth, Gavriel, and Ryuu travel to Noctem Falls. We are finally introduced to Beth’s family, but we are also introduced to an extremely large cast of other characters.

That is one of my first issues. There were too many people, way too many people. Between those who already live in the city, the refugees on the run from ferals, and the visitors from Lycaonia, there were just too many people to keep track of.

This book (if you follow along with the previous five books) should follow Adriel getting his mate. In the prologue he has his nightmare regarding his mate and then she doesn’t appear in the book until Chapter 5. And between those two times nothing is mentioned about it, and even after he meets Eva there is no discussion regarding dreams and/or nightmares. And while ‘instalove’ is normal when reading books with paranormal and mates but it felt even more rushed in this book.

If you’ve been reading this series than you know Meryn is pregnant and is so because she is human, even though Aiden is paranormal. We also learned in My Commander (book 1), that paranormals didn’t get pregnant like humans. As stated in My Commander, ‘Shifters get pregnant at Summer Solstice and usually give birth around the Spring Equinox’, yet in this book we learn that Beth (who is a shifter) is pregnant and it’s quickly noted that it’s not the time of year for shifters. As an explanation we are told that ‘in the vampire’s written history there are recorded examples of woman conceiving out of season. In every instance the male is an ancient vampire and the female another type of paranormal. It was theorized the act of multiple feedings while being intimate, passed along something of the vampire to stimulate his mate to ovulate.’

I understand it’s the authors prerogative to change their world the way she wishes, but making it very specific one way (like pregnancy explanations in book one), and then throws out some random explanation to explain Beth being pregnant seems in my opinion only created to be able to have Beth pregnant sooner rather than later. Also, we know that Kendrick (My Brother’s Keeper) is an archivist for paranormals so I don’t understand how he never knew of even one time when a shifter got pregnant out of season, and if he does why he didn’t let Gavriel and Beth know about it when he learned of Gavriel’s age.

Throughout the past four books Meryn hasn’t been allowed to have coffee or caffeine due to her pregnancy but in this book she practically lives off of chocolate pudding and coffee. When Aiden asks Ryuu about it he tells him that the coffee seems to be helping her condition now. It is left at that, no other explanation. I would have liked to know why her ability to have coffee is now all of a sudden not an issue.

In My Commander, Meryn is given the ‘Gown of Eire Danu’. She’s told by Lady Fairfax that when she puts the gown on it will change into whatever ‘dress’ she needs. In My Brother’s Keeper, Kendrick explains he owns the ‘Gentlemen’s Garments’. They are similar however Kendrick’s can be used to change all clothes, they aren’t used for formal attire like we believe Meryn’s dress is, because we are never told they will do that. In fact Lady Fairfax mentions that since her grandson wasn’t into crossdressing the dress hasn’t been used since his mother. In this book Meryn is using the dress to change her regular daily clothes since she has no maternity wear. She’s been using the magic to change into her daily tees and jeans. She’s also able to control the change whereas before the gown did what it wanted when she put it on. If in fact the ‘Gown of Eire Danu’ can be used to change basic daily clothes and not just dresses than wouldn’t that mean that Lady Fairfax’s grandson could in fact us it?

When the group arrived it was clear that Adriel (the unit warrior) had some kind of issue or concern or even hated Gavriel. While some might say it was because of a crush he may have had on Beth as a child that would have gone away as soon as he met his mate, but it didn’t. I won’t go into too much explanation but it basically came down to him not believing that Gavriel is who he claims. Adriel tells Eva that he believes Gavriel is using and claiming the last name Ambrosios and that he isn’t part of that familiar line. Near the end of the book things are explained so that plot hole is closed.

Some other things that bothered me. While the layout of how the city is explained, it never really made sense and even at the end of the book I was still confused. The book was supposed to be about Adriel and Eva but their storyline could have been removed and nobody would have missed it. Meryn was given too much page time. We are now in book six in the series and still she’s getting page time like it was her book. It’s clear that there is a feral inside the city but aside from the mention of a missing person and the deaths of a few refugees that’s all we got. Yes Eva went after the feral but we, the readers, learned nothing else.

So personal feelings. This book seems pointless in the overall scheme. If in fact the author wanted to introduce us to another city I think maybe that could have been done in a novella and then the Unit Warriors meeting their mates wouldn’t be over-shadowed. Meryn is overused. I don’t think she needs to be everywhere. She takes up page space that could be used for the unit warriors that are not mentioned enough. I think that too many citizens were introduced or mentioned in this book, we don’t need to meet them all in one book. If this arc is supposed to be this city there will be plenty of time to introduce and explain who the citizens are. I feel like we met more in this book than we did in the first five books combined. As mentioned before, the city structure is not explained or described enough to truly get a visual in our heads (maybe a map could be made available to readers on the author’s website). And again this is supposed to be Adriel and Eva’s book and not another book about Meryn.

I’m personally not a fan of writing reviews that aren’t good. But I couldn’t let this slide. I’ve read all of this authors books and while there are a few grammatical errors here and there in this book they don’t bother me like the other things I mentioned. I admit I forced myself to finish this book and to not give up. It took me three days to read what I should have been able to do in a few hours. And as much as it pains me to say since there are so many things I’d like to know and characters I love, I won’t be purchasing future books in this series. Maybe one day I will look back and decide to finish it, when the series itself is finished, but that’s a big maybe.

I was a little hesitant starting this book because it’s with new characters from one of the other cities. It’s still had some of the originals but not all so that was a little disappointing. I’m also upset I was hoping to get something on Keelan especially since they were moving onto a new city..... I’m hoping in the future Keelan is going to get a book.

All in all I’m enjoying the series.... onto the next!

There are authors I like and there are authors who are my favorites but Alanea Alder is in my top 2 and I love her, and there reason I didn't specify a number is that I both love her and Julie Garwood but these two specialize in two different areas.

- I feel like I've waited for this one for a whole yeah and as soon as the ebook was out I went all "My Precious" on it XD

- This book was interesting because there are many changes in everything new city new peps and that's why it took longer than the previous ones

- The new city is the vampire city so half of them is nice and half are douche bags but the important ones the ones that matter are nice peps

- The main guy in this book is the commander of the unit warriors in the city and he's the very proper and dignified kind of guy, for gods sakes who makes yoga looks sexy XD

- I liked the heroine and she fits right in with the Maryn bunch XD She's a tiger shifter who has a mothering nature whenever she thinks of someone as young or a cub she can't help but go mama bear on them well in her case it's mama tiger XD

- I loved the scene when she treated the cub as a cub XD

- From the previous book we deducted that the evil plan or mastermind behind all the things that are happening and our people are just unveiling bit by bit has been going on for centuries and they have reached in high influential places and in this book we see they are expanding their range of attacks since before it was only concentrated on the shifters city but now we see even the vampires are suffering

- I liked the baby Keelan's they were so cute and sweet and totally fit as Maryn's kids and the way Aiden choked when she said she's adopting them was hilarious

So looking forward to the next book

Overall, *thumbs up*

I am really torn on this one. On the one hand, I really love the Bewitched and Bewildered world. I laugh and smile through most of the story. I would give this story a 4 based on the world, Meryn, Beth, Ryuu, Sebastian and the interactions between them. However, if I was grading the romance between Eva and Adriel, I would have to give this story 2. After the prologue where we see Adriel's nightmare about Eva, she doesn't even show up again until Chapter 5 (out of 13 chapters). Then the "romance" is basically "hi my name is..I'm your mate..got a few things to do, be right back....ok let's have sex" this takes about 2 chapters (23 pages) then they pretty much act like a married couple and the focus returns to their involvement with Meryn and the gang. I did like Eva and Adriel - Eva was kickass and Adriel was serious yet fun, but the insta-mate was not really enough basis for their love/relationship in my opinion.

I did laugh and enjoy the antics Meryn and her crew, but I felt kind of cheated out of the relationship building between Eva and Adriel.

Awesome...and new peeps!

Ok, so we have Meryn and Beth in another city. It's so wrong it's right. I really enjoyed the new characters and story. My only two problems......it was too short for me, I wanted more.......and I wanted more and the wait for the next book will be loooong. I have to say that the Menace has some great one liners in this book. And just remember peeps...... this is Sparta. Truly enjoy this book.

At the end of the last book, Beth receives a call from her uncle and is to be in Noctem Falls. Meryn and Beth go as well as their mates Aiden and Gavriel. Showing up there was supposed to be talking business but it seems that Noctem falls isn't updated on everything that's happening. Eva Mae Miller is part of the shifters that were invited to stay in Noctem Falls to be kept safe. upon arriving she meets Adriel her mate. Instantly they know they are meant to be together but things start to out of the handle. Adriel knows how tough she is and lets her protect meryn, she is very fond of her so she doesn't mind. Adriel and Eva are great together and he might be all alpha but doesn't discourage how strong Eva is. We still see Meryn crazy side but it wouldn't be perfect without her. The more the stories go on the more we uncover what is happening with the ferals. Great story

The book ended a bit abruptly for me. It would have been nice to see the murderer caught in this one. Adriel and Eva story took a backseat, while Meryn ran the show.

My favourite part of the book "This is Sparta!" 😂

I really wanted to like this story, but it seemed like it should have been a Meryn story, not an Eva story. After the prologue, she did not even show up chapter 5. Even then it was mainly about how Eva interacted with Meryn and the gang.

Also, I know Meryn is supposed to be quirky, but in this book she came across as over the top ridiculous in the try to show how quirky/non-traditional she was. If I met her in real life I would probably think she was autistic.

Just like all the others, I loved this one. I can't get enough of these characters and their mates. I need more of Meryn and all the others. I love this series so much and honestly I'll probably re-read this whole series again. So much love for these books.

Though I'm still liking the series, I'm not happy that the author has strayed away from the primary characters. What about Sascha and when is Keelan going to get better. I don't want a whole new cast of people... But I would like to meet Amelia's brothers.

I love this book series but I must say that this one was entirely to short. I hope she plans on continuing this book series because it didn't sum up anything, however it did leave it open for more.
