COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A raccoon is being blamed for a power outage that affected most of the City of Coldwater late Thursday night.
The blackout started around 11:30 p.m. Electricity restored about 45 minutes later.
Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Director Paul Beckhusen says the raccoon caused a fault in a transformer at their Garfield Street substation.
He estimated at least 3,000 Coldwater BPU customers were affected by the outage. CBPU crews managed to get the transformer back on line shortly after midnight.
As for the raccoon, well, let’s just say the critter won’t knock out power for almost an entire city again.
