'Isn't this just prawn cocktail sauce?' Heinz launches pre-made blend of ketchup and mayonnaise called 'Mayochup' - but it's dividing fans

  • Heinz's Mayochup is on sale in Middle East but fans demand it arrives in the UK
  • Others say Heinz has reinvented marie rose sauce, designed for prawn cocktails
  • Some find the concept of mixing the two sauces together 'upsetting'

Diners have been mixing mayonnaise and ketchup together in their own homes and at restaurants for decades - but now Heinz has launched a product that does the work for you.

The condiment makers have created Mayochup - a pre-made blend of mayonnaise and ketchup.

Some fans can't wait to get their hands on it even though it's currently only available in the Middle East.

But others say Heinz has simply reinvented the wheel as ketchup and mayonnaise mixed together forms the base of a classic marie rose sauce that is traditionally served with a prawn cocktail.

The new blend is controversial as some sauce lovers can't bear the thought of mixing mayonnaise and ketchup together.

However others say they've been combining the two for years anyway - and can't wait to get their hands on a pre-made mix.

They will have to travel to Dubai or Kuwait to try the condiment as Heinz has stated it has no plans to sell the sauce in the UK for now, though it is available online.

The new Mayochup product has divided sauce fans on social media, with some urging Heinz to bring it to the UK and others saying it's just marie rose by another name

Many sauce fans have pointed out on social media that Heinz has simply rebranded classic marie rose sauce.

Marie rose, otherwise known as prawn cocktail sauce, is traditionally a mix of mayonnaise and ketchup as well as Tabasco, cayenne pepper, lemon juice and seasoning.

Some have also said the condiment is designed for 'lazy' people who can't mix the two together themselves.

One called it a 'deeply upsetting concept'.

But others are excited about the new addition to Heinz's range, and are urging the condiment maker to bring the sauce to the UK.
