It'S not often that a mother has the skill, or the opportunity, to design her daughter's wedding dress, but Beyoncé's mother, Tina Knowles, had both and found the experience humbling.

"She was so sweet to let me do that," Tina, who designed many of Beyoncé's stage costumes during her formative years in Destiny's Child, told the Today show at the weekend. She did, however, hint that her daughter might not have been as thrilled as she was.

"She came back later one day and she said, 'You know, when my daughter gets married, I'm going to let her pick out her own dress.' Maybe she wasn't so excited about it at the time, but she's a sweetheart."
Beyoncé paid tribute to Tina's sartorial talents when she collected her Fashion Icon CFDA Award last month, telling the audience: "My mother actually designed my wedding dress, my prom dress, my first CFDA Awards dress, my first Grammy dress, and the list goes on and on, and this to me is the true power and potential of fashion."

In the interview Tina also harked back to the early days of her daughter's career, when the designer clothes that are now at the superstar's disposal were scarce.
"Now we have access to all the beautiful clothes, but back then we didn't and we would take lemons and turn them into lemonade."
