Middlesbrough's proposed £8million move for Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic is off as the player needs surgery on a rib injury.
The Serbia international, who suffered a thrombosis in his arm last season, has been dogged by injuries in recent years and Dortmund confirmed he is now poised to miss most of the next season.
That same injury, prevented him from playing in the final games of the season, before the club announced via Facebook he was set to leave.

After being shown around the club's training facilities earlier this month, the defender was expected to finalise a deal shortly after.
However, that deal has failed to materialise, after the 27-year-old saw a consultant in England , which ruled him out for an extended period.
Subotic joined Dortmund in 2008 and has gone on to make 258 appearances, winning two Bundesliga titles and the German Cup, while also helping them reach the Champions League final in 2013, but they were beaten 2-1 by Bayern Munich.
