Largest Laser-powder 3D Printer

GE is planing to build the largest laser-powder additive manufacturing machine or in short 3D printer. The device uses a laser to mold metal powders and will be able to build parts measuring up to 1 m3. It makes easier to create everything from toys, shoes, prosthetics there they are needed. The device points a laser beam at a layer of powdered metal, which fuses it together at a very fine point. This can effectively draw the required shape in the powder, one layer at a time, and GE says the system can make virtually any shape. It will 3D print any aviation parts, structural components for jet engine. It might even be applicable for manufacturers in the automotive, oil and gas industries.

The device will build using powdered titanium, aluminum and other metals and will be capable of 3D printing objects up to 1 m3. Early versions of the machine will be provided by the end of the year. The process of laser additive manufacturing can be seen in action in the video below.
