SC concerned over regularisation of irregularities

Observation made during the hearing of private Ayurvedic colleges' application for regularisation

The Supreme Court today voiced its anguish over the trend in the country where all types of irregularities are regularised and murder convicts pardoned.

"In this country all types of irregularities are regularised, murder convicts are pardoned, irregular appointments are made regular, and illegal constructions regularised," Justice G S Singhvi, who was heading the vacation bench, said.

The bench also comprising Justice C K Prasad made this observation while dealing with a bunch of applications filed by managements of certain private Ayurvedic colleges from Maharashtra which had sought approval of their admission process.

The colleges had moved the apex court as the Central Council of Indian Medicine had declined to grant approval for the admissions conducted during 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 as they allegedly failed to fulfill the required standards.

The apex court pointed out that the situation in the country has reached such a pathetic state that even the once highly respected All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) was today under cloud.

"Today the situation is such that High Courts are forced to regulate admissions in the colleges. We must have a regulatory mechanism to these type of problems. Because there are people today who have enough money to engage the best legal brains in the country to prolong trial endlessly," the bench commented.
