App Cleaner for Mac is a simple application that uninstalls applications and all associated files. It is available from many download sites, although not from the App Store, and it installs easily. App Cleaner for Mac is a free download.

While most apps will uninstall from a Mac without a problem, there are a few apps that will not, and that leave orphan files or folders hanging around chewing up disk space. App Cleaner for Mac is a simple way to get rid of these applications and files. To use App Cleaner for Mac, you simply drag an app icon over the App Cleaner for Mac icon, and it will then search the filesystem for files created by the app and remove them. While it sounds simple, there are a couple of really nice capabilities built into App Cleaner for Mac. For example, if you've already tagged an app for deletion and then run App Cleaner for Mac, it will notice the app in the Trash and offer to help remove leftover files for you. App Cleaner for Mac can also clean up plug-ins, widgets, and anything else that has been installed.

We tested App Cleaner for Mac on a couple of Macs that had bloated software loads. On one machine we ran the normal deletion processes and on the other we used App Cleaner for Mac. The apps removed by App Cleaner for Mac were cleanly handled, while the standard Mac had two that would not uninstall cleanly and left a number of files hanging around. Since this is a free app, there's absolutely no reason not to install and depend on it.

Doesn't find cleanmymac which is still showing in my notifications and won't remove Rescuetime app either! Literally completely worthless for me as that's all I needed!

Downloaded adwear and hijacked settings! Yahoo was made my homepage and all of a sudden an app JustCloud was under my apps I've never seen before. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS. and the biggest kicker of appclearn?... there is NO UNINSTALL OPTION** !!! un-f**king believable.
Summary
DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS. Wasted my time, created problems, and did not perform a single positive/useful action. CNET you should be ashamed of yourself for giving this a 4/5

Dowloading and installing the App changed my Safari settings. Safari shut down automatically (losing my saved pages). On relaunching, my front page had been switched from BBC News to the Yahoo search engine without my permission (Is it hidden in The Agreement?). Wonder what else was installed with it. Naughty! Updated on Dec 25, 2014It installed a lot of cr*p along with the AppCleaner. Took me half-a-day to find all the Adware, Spyware, pop-up-ware. It switched my log-in homepage to Yahoo Search and goodness knows what else. I don't understand why CNet allows all of this 'c' to be secretly attached to the downloa. Very irresponsible.

Have used this for about 2 years on OS X 10.6.8 and have not had any unwanted side effects after deleting an app with AppCleaner. Interface is simple. Works like a trash can for apps.
Cons
The Yahoo Search Bar and changing your browser home page to BING can be a nuisance if you picked the default install option.
Summary
CNET often offers multiple download packages for most free apps I want to sample. Once downloaded, it's getting more difficult to find the custom install option to opt out of unwanted freebies. This is a business needs issue that doesn't detract from the merit of this app.

None! It didn't work at all, but worse, it installed loads of junk on my MacBook Pro. I haven't been this annoyed since I owned a PC.
Cons
It took me three hours to track down and destroy all the junk Spigot extensions (Searchme, Mybrowserbar.com, saEbay, saAmazon and savingsSlider) that installed themselves in all my browsers - FireFox, Chrome and Safari. Frankly, I still can't get rid of all the damage it did! It changed all my preferences in all three browsers - it changed my homepage and default search engine, among other things. To make matters worse, there's a Spigot employee troll visiting all the forums tricking people into visiting their page for "instructions" that will ultimately make it worse! Don't be fooled.

Installing an application distributes many files throughout your System using space of your Hard Drive unnecessarily. AppCleaner finds all these small files and safely deletes them.
