Her Outback Cowboy

After an engineering degree and working in the mines of Western Australia, Garth has returned to the Outback and is home to stay. His goal is to settle down, start a family, and work his beloved land with the girl he’s always loved. Her Outback Cowboy is book one in the Prickle Creek series. I recently read book two in this series and I enjoyed the character of Lucy so much I was eager to read book one where Lucy is the main character.

In Her Outback Cowboy we are introduced to the four cousins, Lucy, Liam, Jemima and Sebastian.
Confirmed city-girl Lucy is called back to Prickle Creek farm, along with her three cousins, to help their grandparents work the farm. The cousins decide between them to do three months on and three months off, continuing on with their careers in between.

Lucy meets up with neighbour and one time boyfriend Garth McKenzie and they strike up a friendly liaison. Lucy views this as a temporary arrangement as she is eager to return to her life in Sydney.

Lucy and Garth had a terrific relationship, their conversations were open, with each knowing exactly how the other felt. I loved garth’s confidence. He was always kind and considerate and he knew exactly what he wanted.

I was a little confused about the whereabouts of the cousins’ fathers. We do learn that Lucy’s father has died but the other two didn’t get a mention.

Seaton writes from the heart and her representation of life on the farm makes even the hard slog of farm life sound idyllic and appealing.

I am really enjoying this series and even though each story is stand alone I would recommend reading the series in order to get a clearer understanding of the characters and other side stories going on in the town of Spring Downs.

The first words that come to mind to describe this book is sweet, wholesome, first love and family and that about sums up HER OUTBACK COWBOY. It is one of those feel good reads that isn't bogged down with deep emotion baggage; it truly is a story about reuniting first love and coming home.

Seaton leads the way for further Outback adventures with not only Lucy's cousin clan but maybe even the vet. I'm looking forward to it!

I am very happy to say that I requested and was gifted a copy of this novel via NetGalley; this is my honest opinion after choosing to read this delightful book. The pivotal character in the story is the Grandmother, Helena, who contacts her four grandchildren(Lucy, Sebastian, Jemima, and Liam) and instigates their return to her home, Pickle Creek Farm near Pilliga Scrub, where they all grew up after a tragic accident killed their parents. Gran is a true matriarchal figure and all four cousins, with varying degrees of reluctance, leave their homes and jobs to visit. They discover their grandfather is in hospital for surgery and Gran wants to talk to them about the future.

One of the cousins is advertising art director Lucy Bellamy. She is busy creating a new ad campaign and is surprised when returning to the place she’d always wanted to escape from actually revives some happy memories rather than the resentment she felt as an orphan. When she meets with Garth Mackenzie, now the owner of what had been his parents’ farm next door to Pickle Creek Farm, the attraction between them is instantly rekindled. However, Lucy has no intention of staying on the farm, whilst Garth has returned to stay after university and then working as an engineer. She’s always been the one for him but she still seems to want the city life whilst he prefers his Outback farm. As more revelations are made, can love find a way to help these two move on to their HEA together or will past resentments drive them apart again?

This is a great start to a new series and it was a pleasure to escape into the Australian Outback setting which the author brought to life in my imagination whilstI was reading the story. The interactions between the characters are superbly portrayed, making them feel ‘real’. There are some fantastic twists that add to the angst and turmoil, keeping the dramatic story flowing and the reader enthralled. It is a fun, light hearted and enjoyable story that I have no hesitation in highly recommending. I can’t wait to read more in this series, presuming the other books will focus on Sebastian, Jemima and Liam but still let readers know more about how Lucy and Garth’s relationship progresses!

I always wanted to go to Australia but after reading this, I’m not so sure! They have lots of flies and other irritating and dangerous critters! If it weren’t for the cowboy next door, Lucy would stay away from the worst of it too!

Lucy and her three cousins are asked to come back to their grandparent’s ranch. Lucy is the first to say yes I will come but also the one who wants to be the first to leave. They don’t know why they were asked to come home. When they all get there, their grandmother proposes they take the ranch and it stays in the family. The others are quick to make it work. But Lucy likes the city and all things less critters. She doesn’t mind the work, but she wants to go back to her work life too. She is just a little fickle!

But Garth is the boy who she left behind. The one she left her heart with many years ago. He is also back and has worked hard to buy his parent’s ranch next door and he is a hard worker. He also left his heart with Lucy. Garth is lonely and is ready to settle down and have a family. Lucy wants to go back to her city life. The longer the two are together the deeper their relationship goes. But Lucy keeps telling him, she is going back to town and where they are having fun together, she isn’t staying. Garth thinks he can change her mind.

The chemistry is strong between these two. I love the family dynamics of Lucy’s family. They are all a little quirky. I am looking forward to reading books on each of the cousins.

I had a hard time with a lot of the words. The Australian terminology is different and some things I couldn’t figure out that they do on the ranch. So I just went with it. At the end there was a glossary but by then it was too late and there were still words that weren’t explained. Oh well, I got what I wanted out of the book and that was a good romance!

If you like Australia, ranches, cattle, gardens, flies, snakes, fishing, family, second chances, romance, utes, finding who you were meant to be with then this might be for you!

Lucy Bellamy is at work when she gets a phone call from her grandmother; Gran wants her to come home for a little while Lucy’s grandfather is in hospital for knee replacement surgery. Gran needs help on the farm, so Lucy figures she will be able to finish her important project remotely, while giving her Gran a hand. Lucy had spent enjoyable moments on the farm, but her life is in the big city, Sidney, not in the outback where there are flies, dust, and the heat. However she recalls rather fondly her time with Garth Mackenzie, her first love, whom she hasn’t seen in five years. Two weeks won’t be so bad, and she goes back home, or rather the outback.

I picked HER OUTBACK COWBOY because it was about Australia, and Ms. Seaton delivers in spades! I loved how this book is unabashedly and delightfully Australian, and Ms. Seaton’s crisp descriptions made the outback as clear as a high-definition movie, without ever sounding like a travelogue. While it’s obvious that this is the first book in the series, as Lucy’s cousins are introduced, I thought it was done smoothly, and I am eager to know Sebastian, Jemima, and Liam better, as I found them very engaging. The tone is light, and there are clever plot twists that added a bit of drama while helping the story move along, and it bodes very well for the future instalments. I loved the honest interactions between all the characters: the conversations were meaningful and felt authentic. The romance progressed naturally, if not exactly smoothly, and Garth was a splendid hero, for whom I would not hesitate one minute to leave the city.

HER OUTBACK COWBOY was everything I was looking for: light, fun, very appealing characters, wonderful landscapes, and a nice story. The writing is easy and stylish and elegant. I hope I don’t have to wait too long to read the other characters’ stories; in fact, I would be happy to read them all right now! HER OUTBACK COWBOY is a lovely, lovely book!

Theme: broadband makes even the dusty outback bearable.
Annie and her three cousins return to the station when her grandparents are getting too elderly to get the harvest in themselves. A past tragedy saw this younger generation scatter to urban jobs. Now the question of succession arises and the young people have to ask if they could bear to live on the station. Annie has next-door's owner, her first boyfriend, as an added attraction.

No great surprises but we get a good study of modern Aussie life and how it has changed from previous generations. This romance is suitable for mature teens or adults.
I enjoyed the read.

Lucy loves working in advertising and being in the city suits her. She grew up as a country girl and when her grandmother calls her and her cousins, asking them to come back home, she reluctantly agrees. Returning to the family farm brings back some difficult memories, but maybe being there will also heal Lucy and make her feel more fulfilled. The last person Lucy expects to meet is her old flame Garth. He's taken over the farm next door and is still single. He'd love to get reacquainted with Lucy, but she isn't there to stay, will this be a good idea?

Garth loves living in a small town and being a farmer suits him. He's happy to be home and discovering that Lucy is there once more puts him in an even better mood. He knows she intends to go back to the city, but maybe he can find a way to make her stay. Their old sparks fly again straight after their first meeting, but will that be enough to convince Lucy to give Garth and countryside living a chance?

Her Outback Cowboy is a sweet romantic story. Lucy is a cheerful girl. She loves bright dresses and I liked her fiery attitude. She fights for what she wants. She's lost a lot and this has made her a little bit extra cautious, but she also makes sure she lives and I admired that about her character. She and Garth are amazing together. They have a special connection on many different levels and I loved reading about their relationship. I couldn't wait to find out if Garth could convince Lucy to choose him and the family farm and this kept me glued to the pages.

Annie Seaton writes about family in a wonderful heartwarming way. I could easily picture Lucy and her cousins. I loved reading about the farm and the animals and enjoyed finding out more about Lucy's history with Garth. Annie Seaton makes her outback setting come to life incredibly well and I could easily picture the beautiful land and its vastness and appeal. I absolutely loved Her Outback Cowboy, it's a fantastic entertaining, cute and charming story.

The deftly woven tapestry of life in the Pilliga Scrub is colored first by the owners of the farm, Gran and Pop who are tied to their four grandchildren by their birth and by the death of their three mothers in a car accident. Sebastian Richards a 6'6" photographer, Jemima Smythe an "easy to get on with" famous model, Liam Smythe a London news reporter, and Lucy Bellamy a graphic designer are the four cousins who must help run the ranch or it will be sold. Their neighbor Garth Mackenzie is the one who wishes to buy the farm and as much as Lucy would like to erase his effect on her, he was her first love. Lucy struggles with the heat, the "sticky flies," the smell of the red dust, and the cat's head prickles of the Scrub. As the material unfolds, Lucy uncovers how the tragedies of the past have colored and roughed up her perception of the Scrub and Garth. I liked the book and recommend it. I am looking forward to reading the stories of the other three cousins.

••••••••••••

REVIEW: 3.75 stars--HER OUTBACK COWBOY is the first installment in Annie Seaton’s contemporary, adult PRICKLE CREEK romance series focusing on a once tight knit family of cousins (Lucy Bellamy, Jemima Smythe, Sebastian Richards, and Liam Smythe) torn apart by the accident that caused the death of their three mothers. This is advertising art director Lucy Bellamy, and ranch owner Garth Mackenzie.

Told from several third person perspectives including Lucy and Garth HER OUTBACK COWBOY focuses on the second chance relationship between advertising art director Lucy Bellamy, and ranch owner Garth Mackenzie. Six years earlier Lucy lost her mother to a tragic accident, then one year later her father died of a broken heart leaving Lucy alone to grieve at a time when her life and career was about to take off. Fast forward to present day, when Lucy, along with her cousins Jemima, Sebastian and Liam are called home to Pilliga Scrub, back to the family ranch of Prickle Creek, Australia, where decisions are made about their future and their lives. Enter Garth Mackenzie, neighbor and ranch owner, and the man who once owned Lucy’s heart. What ensues is the rekindling relationship between Lucy and Garth, and Lucy’s bullheaded decision to never make the ‘country’ and Prickle Creek Farm her permanent home.

The relationship between Garth and Lucy is one of second chances. Garth has never forgotten about the girl who walked away; and Lucy was determined to put time and distance between the man who broke her heart, and the heartbreaking memories of family and love. With her return, Garth is hoping for a second chance but Lucy wants nothing to do with working a ranch, or living without her city amenities. The $ex scenes are all implied and fade to black.

We are introduced to Lucy’s cousins- Jemima Smythe, Sebastian Richards, and Liam Smythe- each of whom lost their mother to the same accident that claimed the life of Lucy’s mom. And we can’t forget the cousin’s grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Peterkin who are desperate to pull the extended family together.

Be forewarned, because the author lives in Australia, HER OUTBACK COWBOY contains expressions of slang and language terminology that may not be familiar to North American readers. e.g. ute = utility vehicle: blue=argument

HER OUTBACK COWBOY is a sweet story of romance and second chances with engaging characters and spirited beliefs. The premise is encouraging; the romance is fated but mostly implied; the characters are passionate and realistic. Annie Seaton pulls the reader into a story line about family, love, loss and starting over.

Her Outback Cowboy by Annie Seaton
Prickle Creek #1

Four phone calls are made to cousins requesting they return to Prickle Creek. Two men and two women who have found their way into the world and have successful jobs are called back to see their grandfather in hospital. The four are faced with a huge decision presented by their grandmother and my guess is that there will be four books in this series that will star Lucy Bellamy (first), Sebastian “Seb” Richardson, Jemima Smythe and her brother Liam. All have fond memories of time spent with their families on their grandparents’ ranch. All lost their mothers at the same time. All have ties to their ancestral land. But, are those ties strong enough to draw them from their jobs and lives and take on the responsibilities of country life on a large tract of land? That is the first question.

But, as that question is dealt with in the series the next question I Lucy’s and it deals with the fact that she believes she is a city girl unable to live happily in the country. She might go back for a short period of time to help out but to live there and not in the city? Not likely. Even meeting up with her old flame Garth MacKenzie might not be enough to lure her back to her roots. It takes some time and angst and pain for the two to work things out but eventually they do get their HEA AND I am eager to find out which one of the three remaining cousins will have their story told next.

It was a thrill to have my wish granted by Entangled Press LLC! I hoped when requesting this book on NetGalley that I would have my wish granted so was stoked to find out that I did indeed have the opportunity to read and review this first book in what will be a great series. Why did I want to read and review this book? Because I have read a few other books by this author, enjoyed them and wanted another crack at a book she has written…especially since they are not in local bookstores.

What a story..... Although I already have my own cowboy, it makes me want to go to the outback.. While reading this story, snow makes you feel as though your right there along with the character within the book. This was my first story by Annie, but it won't be my last...I really want to know what happens next with the other 3 cousins!
Sometimes in life you have to finally decide what's most important in your life, career or love as well as where HOME truly is for you. That's exactly what not only Lucy but her cousins have to decide. Lucy just had to decide if Garth is in that plan. As far as Garth... Well he knows Lucy had always been it, but what's his choice in the matter? You'll have to read Her Outback Cowboy to find out!! I know I'm waiting to see what's next in Prickle Creek. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book via IndieSagePR and Entangled Publishing through NetGalley for an honest blog tour review. This book uses AU spellings and references.

They are closely assoiated with there four grandchildren by their birth and the deaths of their three mothers in a car accident. One of the grandchildren Lucy Ballamy becomes one of the most important characters in this story along with Gath McKenzie who owns the neighbouring property at Pilliga Scrub. The Grandmother hatches a plan with the four grandchildren to keep tthe farm in the family. This all happens while Grandad is in hospital.

Lucy Bellamy doesn't want to go home. She has a job she loves in the city, yet when her Grandmother ask her to come home, she does. There she sees her first love, Garth Mackenzie and he wants Lucy to share his life as his wife. Will Lucy stay or will she go! Ms. Seaton is a brilliant novelist that brings the Outback alive. Her characters are strong and fiercely loyal to family.
This is a great book I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.

**3.5 Stars**

Lucy, a graphic designer/copywriter, didn't heed her cousin and best friend, Sebastian's, warning and instead agrees to pay her Pop and Gran a visit, for the first time in three years, much to Seb's dismay, helping on the farm while Pop recovers from knee replacement surgery. Home always carries painful memories of the family she no longer has, having lost her mom and dad within months of each other. At least she won't have to face her long-time crush, and her grandparents' neighbor, Garth. He may have been her first love, but apparently she wasn't his as he'd married another woman and moved away.

Garth has been home for six months and he's loving it, even if it isn't quite the same without Lucy there. He can admit, at least to himself, that he's often wondered what she's doing. Some of his best memories, including their first time period, still revolve around their summer together after his senior year. He can't believe it when he sees his Lucy-Lou at their old swimming hole. She looks just as beautiful as ever. He's confused though when she asks about his wife, seeing as he's never had one. Ohh, she's thinking about...well, glad that misunderstanding is wrong. Wonder where she got that idea from? Unfortunately, another assumption is made making him completely forget the other and yeah, it hurt. Besides, even if they both wanted to act on the still obvious there attraction, her Gran sort of, okay did, ban him from stepping foot on their farm.

One by one the other cousins make their way to the farm, and a family meeting reveals that Gran, knowing the farm has become too much for her and her husband, needs the four of them to make a decision regarding the farm and whether or not they want it. If it's the latter, then they'll accept the offer they were given...by Garth. However, if it's the former, and it seems as if none of them want to lose it, there are stipulations.

As Garth and Lucy get reacquainted, learning of the adult versions they've become, it's easy to see their connection hasn't entirely faded, and is in fact getting stronger the more time they spend together. But Garth wants to make a home and share it with a family in Pilliga Scrub, whereas Lucy wants to do anything but.  Just maybe Lucy's finally prepared to chase her original dream and can do so with Garth by her side. Plus, Lucy is rediscovering the appeal of country life, especially if it includes the man she's falling for all over again.

Is Lucy still determined to return to the city? Can Garth convince her to stay? Will these two admit their love and finally have the chance for a future together? Which cousin will begin their journey to happiness next?

One-click now and follow along as two people are reunited and realize they're meant to be.

When her grandmother asks her to return home and help out on their outback property, Lucy Bellamy reluctantly agrees. But there's no way she's sticking around longer than she has to, even after she comes face-to-face with her first love, Garth Mackenzie. However, the more time she spends with Garth, the harder she finds it to choose between returning to the city or staying in the country. Will Garth be convince Lucy that they deserve a second chance at happy ever after?

What a wonderful and engrossing tale Ms. Seaton has penned in this first book of her Prickle Creek series, which encompasses the second chance romance trope; an independent heroine who has her heart set on returning to the city once she helps her family; and a hero that is finally ready to see what the future has in store for him, if he can convince the heroine to give him a second chance. The way this story started had me liking Lucy and her cousins immediately, as they have a tight bond where they would do anything for each other and their loyalty is palpable through their dialogue and their actions. Is their grandmother manipulating them? Why does she want each of them to return home?

Both the main characters were riveting and I loved every moment they conversed. There was some fun banter between them, which illustrated how close they were in the past and how the moment they come face-to-face for the first time in this story was a good reminder of the past they shared. Furthermore, the heroine has some tough choices to make and I liked the decisions she did make, because they were right for her in the end. How could she return to the city without Garth by her side?

As for the heroine, Lucy is resilient, brave and I liked how determined she was to accomplish what she has in her life considering her past. She's also quite stubborn in her quest to get back to the city, even though she's falling for Garth all over again. While the hero, he's done a lot in his past to get to where he is in his life. His love for the Outback and being home as well as his determination to make his property a success shines through the dialogue and from his point of view. I also liked how kind and caring he was towards Lucy's grandparents, even knowing what they thought about him. But what I liked most about the hero was his willingness to help the heroine with what she asked of him when it came to her work.

Overall, this story was a wonderful read where the chemistry between the main characters was strong and had me cheering for this couple's happy ever after, as they both know that every day spent with someone they love should be cherished instead of continuing to stay away from each other. The way this story ended was delightful, because of the hero's words to the heroine and how he would do whatever it takes to be with her. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up perfectly, as readers discover what comes next for this couple's relationship and I loved the words to the song Garth was singing. I would recommend Her Outback Cowboy by Annie Seaton, if you enjoy sweet cowboy romances, the second chance romance trope, or books by authors Anne B. Harrison, Amy Andrews, Tess McCallum or SM Spencer.

As the introductory story in a new series, Prickle Creek, Her Outback Cowboy hits all the right notes on giving just enough background to entice and pull at my interest while leaving so much unspoken left for me to discover along the way.

The grandchildren are summoned home by their grandmother to impart news and future plans for the family. This is a family that has been hit with tragedy on several occasions and has become the center of all the cousin’s lives. While everyone has a story to tell or a lesson to learn, we start off with Lucy and Garth. Once these two could have had a future together if it weren’t for stubbornness and misunderstandings. Her Outback Cowboy is a second chance for love story, but it will only happen if these two lose some of that stubbornness. Garth now owns his family farm next door to Lucy’s grandparents property. He’s worked hard to be where he is now. He’s been away, he’s had the career but his heart is here on the land. His heart also still belongs to Lucy who has no intention of leaving the city life behind. Watching Lucy and Garth fall more in love, deal with their differences and clear up misunderstandings makes this a believable, enjoyable romance. I think what I enjoyed most was there was no huge drama – there are a bunch of small to medium things that need to be dealt with, but at the base these are two people still in love – they simply have to find the way to make it work for them.

The first story in a series has such a strong role in whether I’ll want to learn more about the people, community I’ve been introduced to. Prickle Creek looks to be a lively, interesting series – and I definitely want to learn more about the other cousins and their love lives. If you’re looking for a strong couple, interesting secondary characters, a story line that is engaging while leaving some tings to be discovered then I believe you’d enjoy Her Outback Cowboy. I’d recommend this story for any Romance reader who enjoys a good, solid story to get lost in.

City girl Lucy Bellamy loves the hustle and bustle of her small apartment and fast-paced advertising gig. But, when her grandmother calls Lucy and her three cousins out to Prickle Creek farm, she goes - but on the condition that she won't be staying. While visiting and helping out her grandparents, Lucy runs into her teenage sweetheart and now owner of his parent's neighboring land, Garth Mackenzie. The old sparks still fly between the pair over the summer, but can Lucy stay out in the dirty, prickly Outback with Garth forever?

This was a perfect summer read! Lucy and Garth's relationship was so affectionate and just the right bit of steamy. Having the foundation of their past together, I was definitely rooting for these two to get together in the end! I loved Lucy's graphic design profession (because I can definitely relate to that!), and the contrast between her and Garth just made their bond more special.

One of my favorite aspects of this novel was the family dynamic and importance. I have come to realize that I find books with strong secondary characters and/or a family relationship very interesting. Seaton's story did not disappoint in this area! The cousins are bonded over something so tragic but strong - and the way they pull together for Prickle Creek Farm actually reminded me of growing up on farm.

I think this is also one of the first books I have read that is set in a different country. It took me a while to get used to the speech and terms, but imagining Australia in my head was so fun! Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It had all of my favorites: strong female lead, adorable and steamy love story, and a strong family background. I hope you'll check it out!

**I received a copy of Her Outback Cowboy from Entangled Publishing and Net Galley in exchange for a honest and voluntary review**

Her Outback Cowboy by Annie Seaton is a wonderful book with lots of love, laughs, a rekindled romance with her first love and a long lasting love for her grandparents.

Lucy Bellamy receives a phone call from her Gran, Helena, requesting she come home to Pilliga Scrub and Pickle Creek Farm to help out with the harvest. Each of her cousins, Sebastian, Jemima and Liam will all receive the same phone call to come home to help while their grandad heals from knee surgery. But when she arrives, Lucy realizes that her first love Garth Mackenzie has also returned home will they rekindle their love and will she stay once her 3 months are up helping out? She hated the Outback with its heat, bugs and animals can Garth change her mind to stay with him forever?

Garth Mackenzie has always been a neighbor to Lucy's grandparents and Lucy's first love, but he left for University and became a Engineer. After working in the mines he returned home and bought out his parents. He's now ready to settle down, getting married and start a family. When Lucy returns home he's determined to do whatever it takes to convince Lucy to stay. Will he be able to convince her that home is where not only love is but his heart?

I'm hoping that there will be more books so that we can learn Liam, Sebastian and Jemima finding their own loves on the ranch they grew up on. This was a great book and I'd give it 4.8 stars and look forward to the next book by Annie Seaton.

This is a tough one to review for me. I had a tough time with this one, I've read better by Annie.
It was basically Lucy I think that didn't sit well with me, totally unrelateable and Garth wasn't that much better. I liked Liam and the rest of the cousins however they were minor players. I loved Gran and Pops! Now those two made the book. She was strict, hardworking and yet so kind to her grands when it came down to it.
Gran calls the 4 kids home without telling them why, Lucy hates the outback and the farm and her memories of the boy next door Garth. Who she doesn't realize is now back home running his family farm. Lucy hasn't a nice thing to say about the farm, so Gran keeps her busy with her in the kitchen. It's harvest time, Pops is having knee surgery and they need help. There's a bottom line to Gran's calling the kids home also, you have to read the book to find that one out. Also where they're all headed, who ends up where and how it all plays out. Lots of little twists and turns. I thought Garth and Lucy were both selfish, self centered people and what surprised me was the attraction there. Yeah well, selfish is as selfish does. You may need a Bex toward the end of this one!
I have to lowball this and give it 3.5 but rounded it up because of Gran and Pops.
Not the best Annie has written. That's just me, please read it because it's Annie.

My first thought while reading this book was that I really hope this is the first in a new series. I am really interested in Liam and Sebastian's histories. This book had such a strong, but a little vulnerable family dynamic. Lucy and her cousins reminded me of mine. Although you may not see each other often, once reunited it is like you haven't been apart. They were supportive and joking with each other, such a great part to the story. And when Gran told the reason for her mood, like an arrow to the heart. That was so sweet. Now, on to Garth and Lucy. I loved the easy comfort of their friendship and how smoothly they transformed into something more. They were a couple to root for. Garth was simply a great caring generous guy. I really liked him all the way to the end. And Lucy was great as well, but made me want to talk some sense into her while she struggled with her decision making.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the publisher through Netgalley.

This is book one in the Prickle Creek series and it features Lucy Bellamy and Garth MacKenzie. Although there are other things happening in this story and with other characters, Lucy's decision on where to live her life and what to do with it is the main thread.

Annie Seaton writes in a way that takes me to Australia, though I've never been, and I can almost feel the weather, the red dusty roads, the roos and the dogs. I also feel a tremendous sense of family in her stories. There were a couple of moments that brought tears to my eyes but the one that got me the hardest was when Lucy says:

"Listen Gran. Close your eyes and listen. Can
you hear it?"
"Hear what?"
"I can hear Mum, Aunty Jean and Aunty Carol
laughing. They're here with us in spirit."

...and the tears started flowing.

BRAVO Annie Seaton! Beautiful and emotional! Excellent writing with fabulous characters. I can't wait for the next book in this series.

The last place Lucy Bellamy wants to be is the family spread in the Australian Outback. She's made a very nice life for herself in the city and that's where she wants to stay. Family calls though so off she goes along with her 3 cousins. When faced with the fact that they will need to take over the family ranch or it will be sold since the grandparents are getting older, the four decide to each put in their time to keep that from happening. Seeing her ex Garth Mackenzie is a nice perk of being back but not even Garth can get her stay. Can he?

A fabulous fun story with great secondary characters that should gives us more great stories in the future. This is a light easy read with little angst and a lot of fun. Definitely one I recommend.

It has been awhile since I have sat down with one from this author so it was a delight in itself. Also since I have a nephew and his wife who live in Australia I get to have a clearer picture when finished if I am fortunate. This one is also it seems a second chance romance with Lucy the one who gets shown exactly what is real. Garth is the one I sided with the most sighing for him. They both have a different mindset but it is delightful seeing the direction it actually goes. The romance grows giving warmth that spreads throughout. A plus is also that this is the first in a series. Family will also shine through in this one making it shine as bright as a star at night with all that comes together with the pleasure you will be given from this author.

I won this book from Goodreads giveaways. I was no required to give a good review. All thoughts are my own. This is a great story about a couple who's love of family brings them back to the same area. Their families owned ranches next to each other for generations, and the two of them grew up and fell in love, but they went the their separate ways because of University. But he is made money and is back and is parents have retired and he owns the ranch now. She gets a call from her grandmother asking for her, her brother and cousins all come home. She is living in the big city and the ranch doesn't seem to do it for her until she sees him again. Will the 4 cousins take over the ranch and come home, and will she find love again with the cowboy next door.

I was given this book for an honest review...

I gave this book 4 Stars

This book was a cute story and I love how it started off kind of glum with Angie leaving her love, Liam, behind in London. I liked how they met up again by pure accident. However neither of them wanted to get involved with anyone for the fear of being hurt and left alone again. They play the hand that is dealt and try to stay away. However, a cake needed cannot make itself. But the question is, is the secret formula ( and a little help from a cousin) enough for them to put the past behind them? You will have to read it to find out, you may also be a little surprised ;)

This book was a very smooth read. The time line was fantastic and there was no jumping around ( which is fantastic!)

Thank you

I really enjoyed this book, it's a sweet homecoming story with a second chance love backdrop. It's the beginning of a new series and what a start it is! This story follows Lucy and Garth but we get to meet Lucy's cousins who the rest of the series will be about. I loved the authors writing , she makes you feel as if you are there with them at pickle creek in the heat. It was a quick read and I was disappointed when it was over! My first read by this author, but it won't be the last, can't wait to read the rest of this series.

Garth McKenzie returned home and took over his families farm. He worked hard to achieve his dreams but was missing his one love. A country boy at heart searching for the one who left him so long ago not knowing Lucy returns home to help her grandparents tend to the farm that has been in their family for generations. She always wanted to see the big city and is finally progressing in her career as a freelance advertising consultant. When she returns home she never expected to see Garth again as she decides what her future ultimately holds and where she will be the happiest.
