The Saratoga County Republican Committee’s executive committee decided on Tuesday night to support Daphne Jordan as the party’s nominee in the race to replace Kathy Marchione.

The Halfmoon town board member narrowly edged out Waterford Town Board member Frank McClement, according to McClement. Republicans Gerard Zabala of Wilton, Chris Boyark of Mechanicville, Eric Wohlleber of Poestenkill, and Marlene Tuczinski of Columbia County were also scheduled to meet with Saratoga’s executive committee.

“Given the tremendous showing of support, I will take some time to consider my next steps in pursuit of the nomination,” McClement said on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, before the Saratoga meeting, McClement said he wasn’t yet prepared to commit to a primary for the Republican nomination.

The Republicans in Washington and Columbia counties could make their own endorsements this week.

Saratoga County Republican Committee Chair Carl Zeilman previously said he expects the local committees to rally behind one candidate and isn’t concerned about the selection process dragging on. “There’s no rush to just throw somebody into that position,” he said. “We’re right on schedule with the petition time.”

Aaron Gladd of Brunswick has emerged as the Democratic candidate in the 43rd Senate District, which includes Columbia County and parts of Rensselaer, Washington and Saratoga counties.
