Reece Ashton, 27, is a rock star down on his luck. His bandmate has abandoned him, his assets are frozen, and his tour is cancelled. Instructed by his manager to hang tight and lay low, Reece hides out in a sleepy England town where he meets Madelyn Arnett Worthington, 24, at the local grocery shop. Madelyn is no stranger to dodging the paparazzi like Reece. She’s had her own brush with fame and now she wants nothing more than to live the quiet life and finish college. But she sees something in Reece that she can relate to so at the risk of exposure she befriends him.

“He’s a guy that could hurt me if I let him. He’s a guy that could also be the man that makes me believe in trust again. He’s also a guy that I could have a lot of fun with.”

Reece is a hot mess. He’s self absorbed, spoiled, and clueless to the ordinary world around him. Though eventually Reece the slob becomes humorous—I’m now going to open my dishwasher and expect to find items other than the dishes. LOL He might be a hot rocker, but he’s no book boyfriend…till he is and then you are totally rooting for him and Madelyn to be together! I have to hand it to Josephine Traynor; she does a great job of taking Reece from a douche to a darling. I’m not even sure of the exact point where she sneaks in his change, but I went from shaking my head and tisking my tongue at Reece to laughing at him and then swooning for him throughout the course of the book.

“Despite his shitty reminder that he’s a ladies man and has the social skills of a monkey, I still wanted him.”

Madelyn is a patient, independent, down-to-earth heroine. If you are looking for a love story where the hero finds his woman and then there’s nothing or no one else more important to him, this is definitely one that fits the bill. Madelyn is the person that makes all the difference in Reece’s life and turns him into a better person. She’s his muse and in turn, he’s exactly what she needs too.

“‘How the hell did you manage to make this jackass not be so much of a jackass?’”

While I felt the opening set up with everything crashing down on Reece and forcing him to hide in obscurity as well as some places in the climax felt a little contrived, I suppose they were also necessary to make the plot unfold as it does. The beginning felt a little slow with Madelyn not appearing till chapter five, but once they cross paths the story became engaging, funny, intriguing, and exciting. I kept turning pages to see how everything played out, and the romance did not disappoint. Told via Reece and Madelyn’s first person point of view, I loved how their relationship is developed, and the reader experiences them getting to know each other and become friends first. Though their eventual steamy encounters were pretty hot!

“Next thing I know, the world is upside down, and again, I’m face to face with his cock.”

I adored how Reece never wavered in his devotion and the story avoided major angst with the good guys coming out on top. Who are the real bad guys in this story? It was an interesting read as that aspect unfolded and the secondary characters became more developed.

There were some grammatical errors, particularly with past/present tense switches but that may very well have been fixed/edited in the final published version as my review was based off an ARC received well before release (points to the author for giving beyond adequate reading time which I so needed as it’s been a hectic summer).

Rock Bottom is a stand-alone novel although there are a few hints dropped in the epilogue that could certainly manifest into a romance story for a secondary character. I know I’m rooting for Trent to get a book of his own. ;-)

Rock Bottom…. What an appropriate title! Seems as though Reece Ashton has hit it. The day he was to go on a world tour, his band-mate disappears! With that disappearance comes the problems. All his money is now tied up in Tax review. His Best Friend and only band-mate disappears. He has no place to live. The Tour has been cancelled. I would say he hit Rock Bottom!

Madelyn Arnett has been there, done it now living the peaceful life in Portmouthe, England. Going to school, working 2 jobs trying to get by. One night while working at the market, she notices a guy at closing admiring a can of peas.

This is a good debut book by Josephine Traynor. I can only imagine her talent growing in her coming books. Rock Bottom is a Contemporary Romance that takes you through one man’s journey to survive in life, without having someone cater to his every need. I could totally see my son in Reece! LOL

Amazing debut novel! There are books that "tell" the story and then there are books like Rock Bottom that make you "feel" the story. The difference is rare to see in a debut author to be able to show the reader how someone is feeling with subtle details that it's obvious Josephine has a true gift with words! To tell a story and get inside both of the main characters' thoughts and feel their highs and lows is such a treat.
I love a character who is flawed an evolves throughout the story and Reece certainly fits this bill! Watching him struggle with everyday tasks is hilarious. I think I found myself saying, "bless his heart" more than once because you can roll your eyes, hold your breath (and in one scene so does he-ha), as well as cheer him on all at the same time. And what I love about Madelyn is she's able to go through the same gauntlet of emotions. And she's certainly no push-over! However she empathizes with the situation that Reece finds himself in because of her past and well, what is more adorable than watching a hot guy try to conquer a washing machine?
Josephine also introduces some secondary characters with some depth including Madelyn's brother, Trent-"AKA Passion Killer" LOL, which could introduce possible sequels..hmmmm???

I can't wait to see what Josephine comes up with next. It's clear she has a true talent and I for one am a big fan!!

When I heard this was a debut novel I first thought oh god what if I don't enjoy it. What if I can't finish. I worried for nothing! I really did enjoy it and he'll I finished within a few hours.

Reece loses everything. His career, his money, his swanky home and most importantly his best friend. After moving to his managers small home in a quiet town Reece starts to realise how much he's taken for granted. Of course because he was a rock star he was a typical man whore, a woman he said he'd never fall in love. Until her.

Madelyn hates the media, hence why she's hiding in a small town working in a supermarket. Trying to keep out of the spotlight and away from the shit her ex caused she keeps herself to herself. She never planned to let a man in. Until
Reece.

I LOVE these characters together. They're written so well and he chemistry and relationship between them is great. Reece isn't your typical alpha asshole well not once he meets madelyn anyway, you get to see so much more of him. He's soft, sweet side no one knew he had. The moments when the characters lets their guards down is when I loved them the most.

The secondary characters are amazing too, although David is an asshole. I'm kinda hoping for Sean's story though. ;) aha

Now it may be a love story but it doesn't come easy for them, they have hurdles to jump and feelings to overcome. Will they get their happy ending? Will madelyn let her guard down for the beautiful lonely man she met? I'll let you find out.

Josephine traynor has talent, there's no doubt about it. I can't wait to read more from her.

This was a solid debut by Josephine Traynor. Reece was a rock star who was on the top of his world until it all came crashing down. Madelyn is trying to repair her life after a private moment became public. When they first meet there is an initial attraction. I would have preferred more character build up between the two. I had a hard time feeling the connection with them. The story was good and there was a twist that I didn't see coming. I was expecting more backlash and more action after that bombshell was dropped. The book seemed to fall a little flat for me but overall is was an enjoyable read. The one thing I did like was that Reece and Madelyn were able to let their guards down with each other and change for the better. They were both dealing with difficult times and being together healed them in different ways.

Reece really needs to work on his game, it's just sad at times, “well, I don’t know. Never been told that I have, but I normally sleep alone.” I shut my eyes at my gaff. “Only one way for you to find out if I snore.” I liked this book, Reece was sweet and caring.

I absolutely loved the characters, humor and originality of the story. Reese and Madelyn were fantastic. A brilliant debut novel and an author who I will be following to see what's next.

Rock Bottom was a great 5 star read.

I have to say that I really enjoyed this book. The story just pulled me right in and I didn’t want to stop until I was done.

Reece is a Rock star and is dealing with a missing bandmate and a cancelled tour.
Madelyn is a student and works at the Market in Portmouthe and is hiding from the media.

When Reece ends up at the Market one evening Madelyn is thrown for a loop. Is it really Reece and what is he doing here of all places?

Maybe this is my way to pay it forward? I know all too well what it’s like to have to hide from the world

Put a boundary around it Madelyn. Ain’t no such thing as a Cinderella story for a girl like you.

There is something about Madelyn that grabs Reece’s attention. She’s not like the usual girls.
All I can say is this story really takes off and we get to see a different side of Reece right along with Madelyn. There are some pretty hot and steamy scenes. The secondary characters added a great element to the story.

If you like Rock Star romances I highly suggest you 1-Click Rock Bottom by Josephine Traynor and get started on this great friends to lovers romance. This is my first read from Joesphine and I’m looking forward to reading more. Thank you!

“My body melts from her touch as one hand slides in behind my head and through my hair. She’s got the tension right as my tongue snakes with hers. My arms wrap around her waist, and I pull her closer to me.”

Review: This was such an amazing debut novel!Reece Ashton is a spoiled rockstar, who is used to everyone catering to his whims. He has just found out that the other half of his band Backbeat-Sean has quit and run off somewhere. And this has happened just before their world tour was to begin.Without Sean, there can't be a world tour and their contracts wouldn't be valid. His manager, David tells him that his money is tied up and urges Reece to go off to Portmouthe to ride out the media circus.Reece now has noone to take care of him.He has to cook, clean and wash on his own(the horror!)

Our other protagonist is Madeline, who works part-time at the supermarket and studies journalism. She has been a victim of the media and knows how it feels to be crucified for something one has no control over. She is laying low and quietly rebuilding her life in Portmouthe when she meets Reece.Though Reece is a little arrogant and demanding in the beginning, Madeline sympathizes with him as she has been in his situation before and decides to help him out.

As they begin spending more and more time with each other, their relationship also slowly grows.Reece who started off with the goal of just getting into Madeline's pants starts to realise that she is something even more special than what he has had before.Though Madeline is also attracted to him, is she ready to be in the media spotlight again? And what will Reece say when he discovers all her secrets?

Honestly, this book didn't feel like a debut novel. The writing was beautiful and so were the characters!I loved Madelyn and Reece together.Though, Reece behaved like an entitled asshole in the beginning, I loved seeing his character slowly develop! It was wonderful to read about his new Pinterest obsession and the way he learns to enjoy cooking. And his washing mishaps!Lol! The time when he puts his shirt for washing on the dishwasher had me laughing so hard.

Madelyn was also equally amazing. She was such a witty, honest, independent and loyal character. The way she said whatever came to her mind was endearing.Though, she has been hurt before in life badly she doesn't let it bring her down. She is determined to rebuild the broken parts and earn a living for herself. The relationship that slowly developed between her and Reece was wonderful to read.Everything from their witty conversations to candy obsession was so cute!

The secondary cast was also well developed.Trent,Madelyn's brother, helped out a lot.It was sweet seeing him get all big-brother protective.Sean and Hannah were also great characters and the plot became more interesting and hilarious when they came in.And David-that guy was so self-centered!

So guys, if you're looking for a great romance with just the right amount of humour and steam added to it, give this one a chance! You'll definitely love it!Josephine Traynor is an author to watch out for and I cant wait to read more from her :D

This Guy is a Man Child

Well Josephine Traynor did a great job at reeling me into her book slowly. There were quite a few times in the beginning I wanted to be done, yet hung in there and it paid off. I needed to know more about this helpless rockstar.

Reece Ashton is a falling star. Blindsided by the life he knows coming to a screeching halt, he is shell shocked and dropped into a sleepy little town to hide out. All of this is per his manager, if Reece had it his way, he's still be living his life of luxury. Instead he actually has to grocery shop, wash clothes and dishes. Oh the tragedy. Give me a break. This is why I had a hard time with Reece at first. The guy was like an infant. I get some guys not knowing stuff, but this was crazy.

It's a darn good thing Madelyn is also hiding out in the small town, however she now calls it home. Working two jobs and going to school, she has zero time for any kind of a social life and it's fine by her. She's hiding from a painful past and knows the minute she sees that famous rocker in her store, it will find her once again.

"I flinch at the sour smell coming from under my arms." ~ Reece

Oh this guy. For some reason Josephine Traynor thought her readers needed to know every bodily function when it came to this character. He doesn't shower for days, or wash his clothes, or even wipe properly some of the time and still sits on the furniture bare ass naked. While I'm one for potty humor all the way, this got to be too much. It's hard to fall for a guy that would rather smell to high heaven than attempt to wash his clothes. Ick.

Madelyn instantly pities when she sees the rocker can't even get groceries on his own. She offers a hand and over the days they start becoming friends. Cautious friends that is. Each has secrets, some more public than others, so they are always careful as they dance around those subjects.

"He's only toying with me to pass his time. He's a visitor in my world with a temporary visa..." ~ Madelyn

Madelyn like every other person in the world knows Reece Ashton, however she's the only one getting a look at the real guy. The guy that has feelings and actually cares about others, not the a-hole portrayed in the press. This is a guy she can probably get close to, if she trusted men.

"I feel completely unguarded and she has me in the palm of her hand. For the first time ever, I'm scared of rejection." ~ Reece

There is a lot of story packed in a little amount of time. It's just about at the one month mark that everything begins and ends with this couple. I found it a bit fast, however with that draggy beginning, I'm glad the story moved right along. The book is well written from dual points of view. There are several storylines we are following and Josephine Traynor did a great job at tying up all the loose ends and even gives us an epilogue.

This is easily one of my favorite books ever. Fiction leaves a lot of room for people to play around with the real world. We like to get lost in it and hide from our real lives. For that reason, I see a lot of characters that are what we wish other people would be. Men and women are gorgeous, talented, and basically good at nearly everything they do. Sometimes, it’s nice to see that when we’re so used to dealing with people who are exceptionally imperfect in the real world. After a while, though, perfect characters start to grate on my nerves because they just aren’t REAL. This book, though, dealt with incredibly realistic characters, and I found that I loved them even more for their imperfections.

Reece was a spoiled brat. You really can’t argue with that. That’s okay, though. The qualities that made me want to slap him also kept me really invested in his growth process throughout the story. I also really loved watching Madelyn come out of her shell. The character growth and relationship development in this novel was incredible. I was honestly sad when the story was over. I would’ve been happy if it had carried on indefinitely. I’d also really love to know more about other characters in the story. Sean and Hannah were lovely additions to the story, but I’d love to really get a chance to dive into them in their relationship. I’d also love to get to know more about Trent. If the author happens to be interested in developing a series, there’s a lot to work with. These characters are loveable enough to keep readers’ interest for quite a while!

One thing I especially loved about this book is the fact that the author anticipated the fact that the English and Australian slang used in the book might not be readily understandable to readers. As such, she provided a glossary right at the start! No need to stop reading and rush to google. I highly appreciated this aspect. And I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone. Easily one I’ll be reading again.

I really love me a good rocker romance novel, and this book was just what I needed!! I haven't read a rocker romance in a few months and I forgot how great they could be when done right. And Ms Traynor did it right! If this is her debut novel then I can't wait to see what's down the road for This author. Josephine Traynor painted such vivid scenes that I could almost feel it, hear it, and breath it.

Reece was such a fantastic character. I loved watching him struggle with everyday, mundane things that you and I do as second nature he was witty, sweet, charming and oh so sexy I couldn't get enough of him!! To see him rise from the ashes and end up being the man you got to grow and learn and evolve with, was just such a kick ass journey!!

Madelyn was a very complex character. You knew she was hiding or running from something. And they way she was so guarded and kept to her self, you knew it had to be something wicked she was staying away from. But then she meets Reece and heaven help her she couldn't not gravitate towards him. He was just so off the charts awesome!!

We met some fabulous secondary characters in this book as well and I pray Ms. Traynor continues on with a series so we can see how wonderful life can be for them once they find the one. I recommend this book to anyone who had every had it bad for a rockstar. Wether it be one that fell from grace or one that's still making their way up the charts. There's just something about a rockstar.

Reece can't go anywhere without been recognised. Just as he's about to go on his first world tour, his best friend and band mate Sean vanishes leaving Reece skint, homeless, with his dreams in tatters and facing the backlash on his own.
Reece, at the start of this book, is your typical spoilt pop star. He's used to everyone else dealing with the day to day running of his life and he's nowhere near prepared to be on his own. When he finds himself in the "middle of bum f*ck nowhere", he's alone. Really alone and with no help. Even going to the local shop is an ordeal for him until Madelyn takes pity on him and shows him a little kindness.
I loved Madelyn. She's been used and thrown to the wolves in her past and sees something in Reece that reminds her that everyone needs some help sometimes. And he needs a lot of help. He can't cook. He doesn't wash pots and don't even get me started on the bathroom (you'll know what I mean when you've read it). Not to mention the washing machine *shakes head*
Reece was one of those characters that when I started reading, I thought I really wasn't going to like him. But as his character develops and his true self starts to shine he really won me over. Madelyn is another great character. Independent, sassy, sweet and secretive, I loved her.
A really good debut book from Josephine Traynor and I'll definitely be keeping my eye out for more from her.

Reece Ashton was part of a successful band with his good friend, Sean. As they're about to embark on their world tour, Sean is nowhere to be found. With Sean missing, there's no way the tour can behind and Reece is left with nothing. Having never survived on his own; Reece is now faced with the tortures of washing dishes, doing laundry, and learning to cook!

Madelyn is an independent woman. She knows that life can turn you upside down and change your course in an instant. One decision put her in that position, and she vowed to never allowed herself to be put at anyone's mercy again. When she meets Reece wandering through the grocery store, she takes advantage of the opportunity to guide him through the everyday challenges of life.

I loved Madelyn’s attitude. She is determined not to be at a disadvantage to anyone again, and is careful to only keep people in her life she feels safe with. She has generous and helpful heart which she uses to be sure those close to her are cared for. Even with her worries, she allows herself to experience new aspects of life.

There were many enjoyable aspects of this story. Watching Reece learn how to complete everyday tasks was hilarious! I never realized how much I take for granted knowing these menial chores. Also, anytime love grows from an environment where there was previously doubt is beautiful to me.

I Really Enjoyed This Very Different Rockstar Book. For Which I Won't Divulge In As It Will Spoil It For You And I Feel You Need To Have The Same Responses As I Did.

This Was Really Well Written. However, I Found Some Of the Info Unnecessary But It Didn't Detract From The Story At All.

Reece Was Really A Whiney Child At The Beginning But He Had Cause To Be. Whilst Madelyn Was Strong, Feisty And God Bless Her She Took Pity On Reese. Their Chemistry Was Great And I Was Rocked By Emotion Throughout This Book.

I Laughed Hard At Reece's Adaption To Normality. But I Broke Equally As Hard For Madelyn. Great Debut And A Must Read.

This is a re-release which includes some extra content. If you’d like to read my previous review of this book –> https://wp.me/p3Pob6-1ev

“Sometimes rock bottom is a casket.”

Reece is every bit a rockstar – fame, fortune, someone to do his every bidding. He’s living the high life and milking it for everything it’s worth. Unfortunately for him, this isn’t going to last. When his bandmate runs off and vanishes without a trace, Reece is left with nothing – no money, no fame, and nowhere to go. This forces him to hide out in a small town that is about as far from the spotlight as he could go. The only hitch in this plan is that Reece has absolutely no idea how to live on his own. Cooking, cleaning, even driving are all skills he does NOT possess. It’s a bit uncertain if he’ll make it out of this alive.

Madelyn is an unexpected arrival in his now “boring” life. She helps him out and offers him a safe space to learn how to be himself apart from the noise of fame. The thing about Madelyn is that she has so much independence that Reece has absolutely no effect on her (well, almost). She pushes him to be a better man and to truly explore who he is as a human, not just a rockstar.

What I loved most about this story was the stark independence of Madelyn contrasting with the dependence of Reece. Madelyn has been forced to rely on herself for so long and Reecy has relied on everyone else. Between the two of them, they come to find a balance that everyone needs in their life.
“He’s a guy that could hurt me if I let him. He’s a guy that could also be the man that makes me believe in trust again. He’s also a guy that I could have a lot of fun with.”

This story isn’t just a love story. It’s a story about finding yourself, trusting others & yourself, and finding your place in the world. This story is relatable on so many levels and could be enjoyed amongst a broad range of readers.

This book was aptly named. Reece Ashton is a rockstar. He has game money and his best friend as his band mate. Until he doesn’t. When his best friend is a no-show he finds their tour canceled, all his assets and accounts frozen because they’re tied up in the tour’s financials, and friendless. He has hit Rock Bottom.

Madalynn wants nothing to do with rockstars and that life. She’s been there, done that. Bought the T-shirt and burned it. Now she’s living a quiet life working her way through school. Everything was going well until she saw him at the super market of all places.

I loved this book! I was surprised that it was a debut novel because Josephine Traynor does a wonderful job of making the characters come alive and the reader feel like they’re part of the story. I adored Reece. He comes off as the typical douchy rockstar, but he way he developed and grew as a person after he meets Madalynn had me falling for him fast. Also, the fact he had a slight obsession with Pinterest had me cracking up and loving even harder. Madalynn for her part was a joy! She’s fiercely independent, strong, witty and totally handled Reece. Together their chemistry was undeniable and they were just so darn cute together it made my teeth ache.

Rock Bottom left me feeling sky-high! Such a wonderful book, fantastic characters, and superb story telling by Ms. Traynor. Can’t wait for more from this author. 5 Stars.

I recieved a complimentary copy of this book through Crazy Cajun Book Addicts for an honest review.

Josephine Traynor is a new author to me and I did enjoy Rock Bottom the storyline went at a great pace and I really liked the characters but I don't know what it was I was just waiting for that little bit more from the story.

Reece Ashton is on the cusp of a world tour with his band and best friend Sean when it all blows up in his face. He's left with no home, no money and no idea where Sean has disappeared to, he then finds himself hiding out in the small town of Portsmouth and his life is definitely not what he's use to.
Madelyn Arnett lives in the small town and is herself in hiding from the press and fame but not of the good type. When Reece walks in to the store where she works they strike up a friendship which soon turns into more but how long will it all last when real life catches up with them.

Rock Bottom is a standalone novel and I would love to get to know more about Trent in the future.

I received an ARC of this book for an honest review. From the first paragraph on the first page, this book grabbed me. I couldn’t wait to delve into the story. And what a great story. The hero, while spoiled and a little too full of himself in the beginning, really comes into his own and learns to stand on his own along the way. And watching him get there along the way is very entertaining. The heroine is really strong and rolls with the punches life has thrown at her. It was great seeing them find each other. The secondary characters were great, too. They’re just as compelling as the hero and heroine. This title makes a great addition to the rock star trope. I highly recommend it.

I loved the cover of this book.
It grabbed my attention right away and I eagerly wanted to read the inside.
However, I might not be the norm here.... but it just wasn't for me in a sense.

I couldn't connect with the characters but I did like them in their own way.... but just wasn't a book that was for me. But don't make my opinion stop you from trying this read!!!

Love this one! I was in the mood for a snarky, sexy story and boy did I get it! It was a fun book from start to finish, with characters who never disappointed. For a debut novelist, Ms. Traynor really came out swinging.
Totally fun. Totally sexy. Reece is totally swoon worthy.

I found the writing quite bland, and the hero was not at all engaging. This was a DNF for me.

ARC received for an honest review

Rock Bottom was a surprising little story from debut author Josephine Traynor. I wasn't sure what to expect at all, but she had me at Rock Star.

Reece Ashton - just wanna give the guy a hug. When the rug is pulled from under his feet and his world as he knows it comes tumbling down, he was like a little boy lost.

Hidden away in a small town until the fallout of his band breakup settles down, the last thing he expects is Madelyn.

Madelyn has had her fair share of attention and doesn't want it again. My heart broke for her as we learn more about her past. But Reece, she might just be willing to give it ago, even with the consequences she may face.

Watching Reece deal with the every day, OMG had me in stitches at times. But more so, watching him become a better man than he has been in the past.

There was just so much to this story. Reece's heartbreak over things that have happened, what will happen with his career, finding true friendship, and falling in love when least expected.

It was also a case of what you see is not necessarily what you get. There were some things that I had a gut feeling weren't what I thought, but when things played out I was all Wow! Was not expecting that.

Rock Bottom is a wonderful debut novel from Ms Traynor. Her writing drew me into the story, I had visceral reactions as events unfolded. I laughed, I cried, I wanted to throw my kindle across the room in anger. And it takes a good book to get those reactions out of me!

Thank you Ms Traynor for giving us Reece, and I can't wait to read what you bring us in the future.
