She gave me her kidney. I gave her my heart...

Nicholas Blake learned a long time ago that nobody does anything for free. He’s felt the pain of lies and manipulations enough times to know that people only look out for themselves, and that all good deeds come with a price. So when he wakes up from a near deadly car accident and finds out a stranger is offering to donate her kidney, he’s immediately suspicious of her intentions.

What he doesn’t expect is Iris Chamberlain, a beautiful woman with a big smile and an even bigger heart, claiming she just wants to help. The more time Nick spends with Iris, the more he starts to believe in what he always thought was impossible: a pure heart.

But betrayal leaves a bitter mark. Will Nick be able to let go of his past and let Iris in? And will Iris be able to show him what it truly means to have a pure heart?

Jeannine Allison is an author of contemporary and New Adult romance. After waffling between many degrees in college, she finally graduated with a BA in English Literature from Arizona State University.

She loves writing and reading -- obviously :) -- but when she's not she enjoys playing with her two dogs, obsessing over new makeup, drinking coffee, googling new tattoos, and pretty much anything else that allows her to wear yoga pants and a sweatshirt ;)

She is a big fan of being exactly who you are. Her favorite stories to write are about characters finding and loving who they are.

Five purest sweetest kindest aawww I loved this book so much stars!

Lately I’ve read amazing thrillers, science fiction, YA dramas but my brain needed a break and my heart craved some smart romance with well developed characters!

Honestly in one night, I started three different newly released books from Boyfriend Bargain, Married for one, Well suited. I thought I turned into a picky know-it-all kinda reader but after 10 to 15 pages, I put down them all and searched my old tbr list.

Finally I found this amazing story and as soon as I started I loved Iris so much . I loved her kindness, devotion, genuineness, pure and flawless heart as like a little child has.

I hated Nick’s bitchiness, meanness and paranoid approach about people. But later when I read about his background story to understand what’s his motives, what makes him act like righteous, prideful, nervous, doubtful man, I got him. There is still kindness hidden inside the walls he’s built around himself for protection not to get hurt one more time! He has his own pure heart and luckily he finds his pair to show he may change when he’s falling in love!

So the chemistry of the couple: PERFECT✅
Unconventional but sweetest heroine you wished to be her best friend✅
Assholish but passionate, insecure, deserved to be loved hero✅
Surprising, punching on the face kinda twist✅
So many awww ohhhh wow moments make you act like an emotional wreckage ✅
Angst, tear jerker tension ✅

So I got my amazing romance break with a satisfying smile on my face. For so long ( instead of Emma Scott’s last novel) I didn’t give five stars to a romance novel. I’m so happy to give them to this heartwarming, lovely, gripping story!

This is my first book of Jeannine Allison but it never ever be the last one. I already downloaded Unveiling series! I’m keeping them for my romance craving moments! I know I’m not gonna get disappointed 🤣🤣🤣

Ahhh this book!! <3 OMG it was the sweetest thing I've ever read and it really cheered up my day. :) And Nick, that man totally stole my heart because I was swooning over him while I was reading this book. :D He's funny, sexy and a dirty talker! Damn, I love those type of men sooo much. :D Oh oh, wait a second! I almost forgot to tell you, he is a chef! :D Dayum! I wanna eat him up right now! :D Anyway, what was I saying? Yesss, I LOVED this book sooooo much. :D But I have to say this, in the beginning he acted like a total asshole to Iris but thank god, he opened his eyes later. Otherwise I'd mentally kicked his ass! :D

Long story short, I highly recommend this book to you. :) If you're looking for a sweet love story, trust me you'll enjoy this book. <3

Overall Opinion: I think the safety gang is going to eat this book right up!! It is safe, and it is a super sweet story that evokes the feels (and in a good way). I loved the overall messages it gives us too. It focuses on things like the power of positive thinking, and that holding grudges only hurt ourselves and not the ones that we're upset with. I agree 100% with that mentality. Those that follow my reviews know that I'm not one that loves the super sweet reads, so that was my only (and still small) complaint in this book. I wouldn't say that it is OTT or anything, but just a little too much for me personally. Ms. Allison is definitely becoming someone that I can count on for leaving me with that feeling of contentment in the end because of her wonderful epilogues!! Super cute and loved, loved, LOVED the H's interactions with the kids! That makes any H dreamy in my boat 😉

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Iris and Nick's story. Iris is on her way to meet her new baby niece when she witnesses a sad scene of a mom getting the news that her son his going to need a kidney transplant after a bad car accident. She had been thinking about being a living donor for a while, so she took it as her sign to help this family out. She connected instantly with the mom, and despite his best efforts she saw the goodness of Nick through the walls he's built around him because of his past. The more time they spend together, the more they cannot deny the pull and attraction they feel. There are some super sweet moments, some family and past drama, some sexy times, and some big personal changes being made...and they do get a HEA ending.

POV: This alternated between Iris and Nick's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good. I never skimmed, and I thought it flowed well.

Instalove: No, they take a while to develop stronger feelings.

H rating: 4.5 stars. Nick. He was a little harder to like at first because of his (understandable) hesitancy to trust others, but I came around to really liking him -- especially the very end where he interacted with the kids in the family.

h rating: 4.5 stars. Iris. I really liked her. I loved her positive outlook, and I really appreciated how even though she always wanted to help others that didn't mean she was a doormat.

Sadness level: Low/moderate. I teared up, but I never needed any tissues.

Push/Pull: Yes, but minimal

Heat level: Good. They have some good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Safe sex: Yes

OW/OM drama: No

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This had amazing closure and left me with no lingering unanswered questions. I was really happy with the epilogue and the extended epilogue, as they left me with that happy feeling at the end and a big smile on my face. I have no hesitation in labeling this a HEA 👍🏻

How I got it: **I was a beta and arc reader for the author, so I was gifted copies of this book and might be a teensy bit biased 😜**. I also preordered it on Amazon for $0.99.

Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers

So I received a PM the other day from a GR friend telling me I was too opinionated for my own good in my reviews I don't really know what that means should I take it as a compliment? Hehe well I DID..
And this is where I'll give my honest opinion about it and maybe this is what the person who PMed had a problem with but I can't change who I am or I won't ever change just because someone doesn't have a good opinion of me. I rather have no friends or followers and if someone doesn't like my opinions about a book then simply don't read my reviews. 😉😘

MINORITY OPINION HERE!!
IM ALMOST TOO SCARED TO GIVE THIS A LOW RATING.....🤔NO I'M NOT!!

I was actually loving this.
I did not love the hero in the beginning I thought he was a jerk I get where he was coming from but I still thought he was a jackass, i loved his mother tho.

Now the heroine, it is me or was she a goody two shoes? I mean I get that a person wants to help someone but she was so damn good, she didn't have any flaws?
I feel like she was a pushover. Maybe I'm just not THAT good of a person. 😮

Anyway.....

This is just me and I'm getting to picky with the books I read, yes I know I should be happy and grateful the book was safe that the hero wasn't a manwhore or that the heroine didn't lose her head when she met the hero or that she didn't get wet but IM NOT HAPPY, I don't know how to explain it I just didn't like that

After that I started skimming no amount of apologies was going to fix this book for me.

Reading this book has been a very different experience. As much as being a romance, this book can also be categorized as a “personal development” book if you ask me because it has made me think and rethink about the issues in my life, the way I look at them and I am sure it has helped me better than an ordinary self-improvement book because they are boring but this one has a beautiful love story in it...
So, win-win :)))

If you need to change your view of life and people towards a more optimistic way and read some emotional and hot romance at the same time, this is your “go-to” book...

The heroine Iris is a very different character. She sounded someone like Pollyanna at first but the more I got to know her, the better I understood her rationale and why she looked at life like that.

Normally I don’t like too naive people who always see the good in others and that are much too forgiving but Iris wasn’t naive, she really was a pure person with a pure heart. She never let others undervalue her, she stood for herself and for what she believes whenever she deemed it necessary.

Therefore, the more I read about her, the more I liked her.

The hero, Nick, on the other hand has a pure but battered heart. His dad left him and his mother when he was a child and later in life, his girlfriend betrayed her in a way that hurt him deeply (no cheating, something else!) and he has only his mother and a few friends to love and trust. His way of looking at life and people is pessimistic.

That’s why he cannot understand why Iris wants to donate her kidney to him. He behaves like an as*hole for a long while, expecting something bad but when he understands that she has no ulterior motive, he starts to appreciate Iris.

They slowly become friends and lovers and there are many sweet, emotional and hot moments.

I would rather the book had a little bit more angst, some pull and push or I would prefer Nick to work hard for it but he easily wins her kidney and her heart because she is not a person to pretend, she acts as she feels and they fall in love together and easily.

There is one plot twist that separates them for a short time and because of the chapter at the beginning of the book, I had predicted what was coming.

That plot twist also served to show that sometimes things are not black and white but gray, there is no clear right and wrong action to take sometimes, because the situation sucks and in this case, it is better to evaluate the intentions of people rather than their actions.

As I said, nearly everything that happens in the book serves as a life lesson and I appreciated this side of the book, maybe because I read it when I needed it.

The book has also strengthened my belief that everything happens for a reason and we should sometimes try to wait and see what is going to follow a tragedy as it may be necessary for the good that will follow it.

The writing is really good and it makes you feel. The side characters are very well developed and contribute to the story.

There is nothing to annoy the safety gang, it is free of cheating and all.

As I said earlier, I would have liked it better if Nick had worked harder to get the girl after his ill-mannered attitude at the beginning... I mean, a little groveling wouldn’t hurt :) So the book is 4,25 stars for me for this reason but I really would like more people to read it because it is a “makes-you-feel-good” book and we all need such books from time to time.

Here are some beautiful quotes from it...

The only thing we could really control in life was our reactions; everything else was up for grabs.

***

The second you let other people’s perceptions dictate how you lived your life, you lost.

***

The two of them took me in when they didn’t have to. They gave me my life back, and I’d always wanted to be able to change someone’s life in some meaningful way too. To give them another chance when they thought they weren’t getting one. That was the reason I’d already looked into becoming a living donor.

***

Because I wanted to make people happy didn’t mean I let them walk all over me to do it.

***

Most people said fear came from the unknown, and I suppose some did. But fear also came from knowing. And I knew she would be the one who would call me out on my shit and make me reevaluate my life. That was why she was constantly on my mind.

***

“I’m not happy because my life has been perfect, Nick. I’m happy because I decided to be. I know you probably think it was easy for me. But it took work.”

***

“Writing things out is cathartic and I think if you had a tangible list of the things you’re grateful for, you’d be more appreciative and optimistic. You’d see the world a little better.”

***

“Don’t use your tragedies as a lens to see by; use them more like a rearview mirror. Just a reminder of what’s behind you.”

**

People always said that nothing was like the first time. Nothing compared to the first taste. That was what drove addicts—they were constantly chasing their first high. Only to discover they could never quite reach it again.

My lips found hers once more, and just like that, I became an addict.

4-4.5 stars!! You know when you read your first book by an author who's also your friend on GR (and you think she's a total sweetheart) and your anxiety levels skyrocket because what if you hate it???!!! That was me three days ago and the reason I went stealth mode..

But let me keep this short and simple.. Pure Hearts is simply amazing. It leaves you with a smile and a content sigh on your lips. It speaks to forgiveness and the complexity of life and the decisions you make. It's a tribute to life and love and how can you not love that?

The epilogues (yes, plural!! Yaaaaay) were super sweet and just the way I like it. I know this author and I share the same annoyances for shittylogues, so I was relieved that she met expectations (although I never doubted she would).

One thing though, and that's definitely a "me" thing, I would have liked a bit more drama and push and pull but that's because I'm a drama and angst whore. I predict most people and, especially, the safety gang will LOVE this one!

Sometimes a book comes into your life at the right moment or when you least expect it. Pure Hearts is that book for me. It literally took me by surprise and knocked me off my feet. The premise of the story is so real and relatable. Chance meetings, organ donation, the considerations going through a persons mind. It's not an easy choice.
For Iris is not even a choice but Iris is not like everyone. She's a woman who believes and sees the good in people. If you give, you or the next person receive in return. Nothing is black and white in her world. She's just a very positive and giving person without any expectations.
Nick is a skeptic man who doesn't trust easily which goes back to his childhood. When Iris gives Nick one of her kidneys he automatically thinks it comes with a price. Boy, is he in for a surprise. His whole world and personality changes and he reawakens thanks to Iris.

Their relationship takes time because of Nick's skepticism but Iris is determined to show him her truth. That she did it because she wanted to. Her own choice. I loved how their relationship grew and evolved into something so much more and beautiful. It felt natural, organic and never rushed. I fell in love right along with them.
I loved Iris and Nick. Well, I loved every character in Pure Hearts. Nick's mother Catherine holds a special place in my heart. She shaped her son, pushed and supported him when needed but also kept an open heart and mind for others.

Jeannine Allison managed to make me feel connected to the main and secondary characters during the prologue alone. That's mainly because of the way she constructed the story from start to finish. Her characters have so much personality and substance. Never boring or too predictable in their interactions or reactions. They slowly flourish as the story progresses.

I've read all of her books and Jeannine Allison gets better with every book she writes. So does her flawless and honest prose which kept me enthused throughout the story.
Pure Hearts has heart, intention but most of all a story to tell. A story I'm grateful I got to experience.

I’ve never read a book by this author even though I’ve had her books waiting on my kindle forever. I’m not sure why and I’m kicking myself now. This story was beautiful.

“I’m not happy because my life has been perfect, Nick. I’m happy because I decided to be. I know you probably think it was easy for me. But it took work.”

We all decide how events in our lives will shape us. I believe this to be true. We can take our most horrible events and find the good that came from them or decide we hate the world because of the pain they cause. Nick starts out as a cynical bastard in the beginning but his life shaped him into that because he chose to embrace the pain and distrust. He was hard to like in the beginning but luckily for him, Iris saw him.

Iris is sweet, caring and looks at life and the things around her through rose colored glasses. She took the bad that happened to her and decided to embrace the beauty that came from it. It takes a special person to do that. Sometimes it makes those around her uncomfortable because they don’t understand it. She never lets it stop her though. Luckily Nick saw her.

My gaze shifted to Iris. She was listening intently to whatever Ma was saying. Because that was what she did. She gave you her full attention, she made you feel special and important. Whether that was the teacher in her, or just who she was, I couldn’t be sure. But I knew one thing for certain: she treated everyone like they mattered. It was an admirable trait.

There’s a thread of religious faith that flows through this story that I wasn’t expecting but it wasn’t overdone. Instead it added to the story and gave the characters more layers.

I will definitely be rectifying the fact that this is the only story I’ve read by this author in the very near future. She has a way with words and making the reader feel her characters and what they’re going through. I want to read more about this blended family even with the extended epilogue which gave me a full look into their future. And what a beautiful future it was.

I was a tad concerned when I started this book as I felt the initial reasons for our heroine donating a kidney to the hero wasn't well-founded or even medically necessary. It felt rushed and I was really wanting to see more of Iris' thought processes that led her to make such a big decision. Kidney transplants for the living donor are nothing to sneeze at. It's a big deal and I felt the medical implications were almost non-existent or glossed over.

HOWEVER, once the story started rolling, I found myself 100% TeamIris. She was a lovable character who strove to do the best thing at all times, even if that decision wasn't always the easiest. I wasn't such a huge fan of Nick at first to be honest. In fact, up until around 60% I wasn't a fan at all. I get that he had betrayal issues thanks to his father leaving him at a young age, but at one point he tells Iris, "You aren't doing the world any favors. You aren't helping anyone." Um, hello? She gave you a kidney, dude. I think that qualifies. So I was a bit irritated with him and how Iris didn't address that. At first I thought that was weak of her, but then I got it. She didn't do it for the thanks or the acknowledgement. She did it because she felt like it was the right thing to do. And then Nick won me over by how he eventually handled the twist with Kent and Calla. As a plot twist, I figure some will feel it too coincidental but I don't see it that way. I'm a big believer in things happening for a reason; for the threads of peoples' lives drawing together in inevitable ways; the soulmate phenomena, where two people are brought together by extraordinary circumstances because they are 'meant to be.' Call me sappy but I love that.

Jeannine Allison truly has some gorgeous turns of phrase and astute insights into the human condition that lend her works such a strong air of authenticity and realism. I wanted a little bit more of that in the beginning, to really ground Iris, but when I got to the end, I was left satisfied and moved. This author is a truth-teller and I love that. I look forward to more from her and while this review may seem harsher than any I gave for the Unveiling series, I think this is her strongest and that she will only continue to publish strong stories about relatable characters, and I look forward to reading every one.

4 Reluctant Nick Stars!!!

What's it about?
Lives and hearts collide when Iris decides to donate a kidney to the son of an endearing woman she meets in a hospital chapel one day. This is a story about the power of good will and selfless sacrifice and how it can soften even the most hardened of hearts.

The Best Bits: I have to be honest, it was the subject matter that drew me to this. As it happens, my husband only has one kidney and many in his family have suffered from kidney disease, endured dialysis, and benefitted from kidney donations. So... I was bound to weep through this love story. And weep I did.

Also, I loved Nick. The reluctant recipient. He was a suspicious asshole who battled his inner demons, and who's gradual surrender to Iris was perfectly timed.

The worst bits: Allison masterfully peppered this book with extraordinary female characters. However, I wanted more character development at times, particularly for Iris and Catherine.

Recommended for: Fans of "destiny" romance, where lives become intertwined by unexpected threads.Fans of sweet heroines and reluctant heroes will also enjoy this. Pure Hearts is a touching story about accountability, forgiveness, compassion, and sacrifice. It is about family and blood and the fact that these do not always go hand in hand. It is about the strength of women and the power of a woman's love.

4.5 'What is your heart going to beat for?' stars

Pure Hearts was like a ray of sunshine breaking through a darkening sky and once those clouds part you're filled with this hopeful feeling deep inside your soul. Because the sun will come out again. You can always count on it. And that is exactly what this book felt like. Two complete opposites are brought together and, with time and trust, they find love and learn to see the world in more than just black and white.

Iris sees the good in everything. She has a sad backstory but she doesn’t let that control her life, which I love because she has this cheerful and bright aura about her. She has such a good heart, a pure heart, and I wish there were more people like her out there.

Nick was in a bad no-contact car accident and because of this he needs a kidney transplant. Iris was visiting her newborn niece in the hospital when she ran into Nick’s mom and heard about the news. They’ve never met before, but Iris wanted to help this heartbroken woman. Nick has trust issues and it’s very clear from the first page that he doesn’t trust Iris’s intentions after she decided to donate her kidney.

"Nick may have tried to act firm, stone cold, and uncaring; but he could never make it reach his eyes. His jaw was sharp, his lips in a flat line, but his eyes always held love."

Watching these two form a sort of friendship, and then witnessing it blossom into something beautiful and inspiring was magnificent. Jeannine Allison delivered a story worth being told. Not only are the main characters one of a kind but the side characters are just as great! I guarantee that once you finish reading this book, you’ll want to get up and do something, no matter how small or big, because you’ll be inspired.

"Iris was living to the fullest. She was doing everything she wanted. She was living life to her extreme and feeling so much joy her heart wanted to beat out of her chest with the excitement of it all. And me? Mine was only pumping slightly harder. I existed, and then there were those rare moments when I dared for something more. But I never lived to my fullest."

"I didn't want to be a passerby in my life anymore. Just letting things happen to me. I wanted to make things happen."

I know it's hard to see the good in this world when all the bad overshadows it, but it's there. And we have to start looking a little harder. I honestly feel like living life through Iris's eyes must be lovely.

"I found it funny that the people who needed the most compassion, who needed the greatest show of affection, rarely got it. People smiled at others who were already smiling, but they so rarely smiled at those who were frowning."

"I choose to see the good in people because too many people see the bad."

If you are looking for a life-affirming novel that is equal parts enjoyable and inspiring with some sweet and sexy thrown in then I highly recommend this book!

These are just some of my favorite quotes...

"No one's course is permanent. Destiny, fate, whatever you want to call it... is a constantly evolving creature that we get to shape."

"I wasn't as pure as Iris. I didn't forgive the driver who cut me off in traffic; I honked and gave him my middle finger." <- I can relate to Nick on so many things. This being one of them.

"'It would be impossible for her to be anyone else's because she's mine. She has been since I pulled my head out of my ass long enough to recognize and accept it. She's mine,'" I repeated, saying it like a fact. Because that was exactly what it was.
The sky was blue.
The Earth was round.
And Iris Chamberlin was mine."

"She wasn't merely one thing. She was like a kaleidoscope. There were so many different sides to her, and they were all beautiful."

"Her kisses tasted like sunshine, and her hugs felt like home."

5 "Sunshine and all that good stuff" Stars!!!

Oh my word, this was my first book that I've read by Jeannine Allison. And I'm asking myself, why the heck did I wait this long??? 'Pure Hearts' was absolutely beautiful. The story flowed seamlessly. And the characters, oh, I freaking adored them. I especially had a soft spot for Nick and Iris. They stole a piece of my heart, but it's ok, it was so worth it. I didn't want this book to end. I wish more pages would've magically appeared, I just didn't want to say goodbye to Nick and Iris. They were IT, and I just adored them.

"The only thing we could really control in life was our reactions; everything else was up for grabs."

Iris is pure goodness. She sees the world in color. She's the type of person that believes there is good in every person. She likes doing stuff for people, and not because she expects something in return. She does it because that's the person she is. She's kind and believes in forgiveness and is not one to hold grudges. She's in all-around, angel. I learned so much from Iris. She taught me many things and I find that remarkable. How this character showed me the beauty in different things. And that in itself is truly amazing.

Nick. Nick has a very hard time trusting people. It started from an early age due in part because of his father. He believes that people always want something from you. He's a hard man to understand. He has his issues, but you know there's good in him. You just have to dig deep, but it's there waiting to flourish. He needs just the right person to help him see the good in people.

"There was something about him that made me not want to give up. He made me want to take a chance. I was willing to prick myself on a thorn, just to get close to the beauty of a rose. Because I knew it was there. He tried to hide it, but I could still see it."

ALL. THE. FEELS. Nick and Iris gave them all to me. The were absolutely fantastic together! Their relationship was raw and intense and just real. It wasn't cookie-cutter at all. They had to work through obstacles. But in doing so, they both taught each other things. Them learning from one another was key and it was heartwarming. I just loved Nick and Iris so much, I have a smile on my face just thinking about them. Ahhh, I can't, so giddy.

"Her kisses tasted like sunshine, and her hugs felt like home. And both always made me want to go back for more."

Jeannine, like I said, I don't know why it took me this long to read one of your books! I just want to read all of your other books right NOW! I just LOVED 'Pure Hearts' so so so so much!!!! And it just makes me excited for when I read your other books and all the other books you write!

I highly recommend this book!!!!!

Pure Hearts was such an great story, filled with important life lessons.

Life hasn't given Nick a lot of reasons to trust people. Iris' life hadn't been easy, but she chooses to see the good in people instead of focusing on the negatives. All she wants to do is make a difference in the world, so when she volunteers to donate one of her kidneys to save Nick's life, Nick is immediately suspicious. But as they get to know each other, Nick realizes that she doesn't have any ulterior motive, she just sees life in bright colors while he sees life in black and white.

One of my favorite quotes in this story:

"Don't use your tragedies as a lens to see by; use them more like a rearview mirror. Just a reminder of what's behind you."

I loved reading about their journey, watching Nick slowly learn to trust and finally opening up to Iris. It wasn't an easy road for them, but they jumped through hurdles to patch up their relationship and won the race. This is my first book by Jeannine. I'm really looking forward to read her other books.

Nicholas Blake is hardened and distrustful, he excepts only the worst, and knows everything comes with a price. After a nearly-fatal car accident, he finds himself in need of a kidney transplant and his spot on the list isn't very high. When a young woman offers her kidney, he knows she has to want something, he just isn't sure what. Iris Chamberlain is beautiful, smart, and kind, but even after spending all their time together he cannot find it in himself to trust her. He cannot see how anyone can be so happy, so good, so pure. When their relationship forms into a friendship and later a romance, their bond is tested by secrets that might break Nick for the last time.

"I choose to see the good in people because too many people see the bad."

Pure Hearts is a sweet read with a bit of an angsty-punch. Jeannine Allison built the story up in layers, introducing us to each character, each person's background, a little at a time. It's a relatable story with a profound, but simple message; see the good in all you can. Main characters Iris and Nick meet by chance, drawn together by Iris' goodwill and natural calling to help. Nick's skepticism would push anyone away, but not Iris, and not his mother that sees something more could be brewing. Their relationship is a slow build, it is anything but love at first sight, but it makes for engaging dialogue, natural progression, and encounters that would make anyone think they had found their soulmate. They fit together like pieces of a puzzle, Iris bringing out the once-buried happiness in Nick's life. Even the secondary characters carry the story forward, with Nick's mom encouraging his growth and Iris' family caring for her in ways she never even realized they did. I felt connected to the characters from the start and found myself cheering right alongside Nick's mom for the good to outweigh Nick's heavy heart.

"Because I was beginning to think that the thing I was going to live for, the thing my heart would beat for, and the thing worth finding...I'd already found. She was standing right in front of me."

I am a massive fan of Jeannine Allison, from her first release to this most recent novel, she writes characters that are honest and inspiring, story lines that are real, and books that break the mold. They're engaging, well-written, and inspiring in ways you wouldn't expect. Pure Hearts made me want to be an Iris, her personality is infection and her outlook on the world is refreshing. It's an emotional story with a sweet ending and a life lesson that we all should remember. It's about trust, love, and forgiveness and I think readers will find themselves in love with it just as I am.

"Anger was the easiest mask to slip on, the most readily available. It was bulletproof-nearly indestructible. Little could penetrate it. Not grief, reason, or love."

This was a beautiful, sweet read that kept me turning pages long after I ought to have put it down!

I've been wanting to read this author's books for a long while now, on account of how stunningly beautiful the covers are. I was so happy to finally delve into my first JA read and I loved every second. I found reading this book a little like a warm hug. It wasn't full of unnecessary angst or nasty characters you couldn't bring yourself to like. These were real people living real lives. Nobody comes through life without some scars and Nick, the hero, is a perfect example of that. He has trust issues stemming from a few instances in his life. Enter Iris, possibly the sweetest character I've ever read. I'm sure there are those who would question the likelihood of a character who is so nice all the time, but I found her utterly charming. If everybody tried a little harder to be like Iris, the world would be a better place. So from now on, my mantra when I'm not sure will be, "What would Iris do?"

I loved that their story wasn't one of instalove. It took time for them to find each other in that way, despite the constant matchmaking from Nick's mother, Catherine, who was another fantastic character. I wanted to snuggle with her. I bet she gives the best hugs! Anyway, I digress...

The story moved along at a good pace, keeping me interested the whole time. I admit I did see the twist in the tale coming, but I still loved how the scenario played out on paper and enjoyed watching how the characters fought their way through it.

Overall, this was a thoroughly enjoyable read and I can't wait to tuck in to more of her books!

This is my first read of this author and it certainly won't be my last! This is such a great read and love story, I loved all the main characters and had to warm to a couple of the others due to their actions! Iris makes you want to be a better person and make better choices in life. Nick is a little untrusting on the surface but Iris brings the good out of him! There is a twist in here that you will never see coming and such a great ending where you find out exactly where the characters are and what they are up to!

I can clearly see why there are high ratings for this book but…

This book is interesting and when reading the book, I thought it would be your run of the mill book. Although I enjoyed it at times I also really struggled with it. If I put my personal feelings aside this truly is a beautiful, poignant and heartfelt read. There is a hidden beauty where the author has really brought out all the emotions on paper and that you get sucked into the plot. The message of the book is that with positive thinking we will get further and that holding a grudge can cost time and energy and that we should show forgiveness.

Nick Blake is ornery, bitter and extremely grumpy. His life has been filled with disappointment, loss and a need to keep himself apart from everyone in his life. He puts in the bare minimum to live. His one true love is cooking. Although he can hold a mean grudge he I still really liked him. The author has given him such great character development that you can’t help but just fall for him as a character. Beneath all his mistrust and anger he is a good guy he just doesn’t know how to show it. And let’s not forget the dimples.

Iris Chamberlain has suffered her own disappointment and loss in life but she has made the best of a tough situation and always lives life to the fullest. She has a heart of gold and is (sickeningly) sweet. She is Mother Theresa in young. I am so cynical but just my feels on this peeps.

Iris can come across as a bit of a doormat but in her ability to forgive it really shows her true strength. She has the right attitude when it comes to life but no one can be that frigging happy and positive all the time.

The more Nick opens up the harder he falls and sees that life can be different. Iris did so much for Nick it really is hard to see what Nick has done for Iris. I did like them together but was all too happy for my liking and this is on a personal level.

The plot was interesting would you be a living donor and donate one of your kidneys if it could save someone’s life? Should more of us be living donors? Tough questions and I feel as if there is no right or wrong answer. This book did make me feel uncomfortable in places but it’s good to read out of your comfort zone.

On a personally level I believe that not everything is black and white as written in the book there are so many shades of grey. But I can’t fathom is blind faith and that at times there was a strong underlying religious theme. But this is just me so don not in any way take my review into consideration if you want to read the book.

Nick isn’t a trusting soul and he has enough reason not to but when Iris comes into his life she makes him see things he couldn’t before and it’s a beautiful thing!

Beautiful! This is my first book that I've read from Jeannine Allison. This is a beautiful, raw and emotional story. This story will have you crying a lot throughout the book. I fell hard for Nick and Iris. Iris is the type of person that loves doing stuff for people. Nick had a hard time in trusting people. It will have you drawn into the book from the beginning. I was sad that it ended, I wanted more about Nick and Iris. Can Nick trust and accept help from Iris? I highly recommend this book. This is a MUST READ!!! I can't wait to read your next book soon. I will definitely looking to read more from Jeannine Alison. Keep up the amazing work!!

5 Stars to Pure Hearts by Jeannine Allison.

Nick and Iris.......

Pure Hearts was such a beautiful story. There were dark moments as well as light and joyful ones. By the end of this book, I was smiling, giddy and crying tears of happiness. Every single conflict fell into its rightful place making Pure Hearts a perfect read for me, with all the feels alive on almost every page. I couldn't ask for more.

Nick is an angry, bitter and lonely man. To say he was grumpy is only a small part of his persona. He was rude, mean, cynical, mistrusting and doesn't see the world as anything other than cruel and ugly. The only amount of light in his life shines from his mother and two close friends. I absolutely adored his relationship with his mother. There were more than a few times that I wanted to slap Nick for his awful behavior. It is early on that we learn of Nicks's past circumstances and the reason for his views on people. I quickly changed my feelings of disappointment regarding Nick to understanding and empathy. It would take a miracle to help Nick change, to find happiness. Though, Nick would have to believe in miracles first.

Iris was Nick's miracle. She would end up being the light to his darkness. Unfortunately for Iris, when they first met, all of Nick's trust issues and doubts surfaced. He was more than a little cynical when he found out why Iris was in his life. She wanted to help him. Nick didn't want anything from Iris, except for her to go away. I won't go into details because I wouldn't dare spoil Nick and Iris's journey for you. I will say that I have never met a character like Iris. I wish I was more like her in some ways. I admit, I did think her to be a bit over-the-top. However, I never looked at her like she was crazy. Iris was as real as you can be.

This story has some secrets, lies, twists and a turn or two. But the most prominent elements to this story is love and healing. Learning to trust and to forgive. It was just refreshingly beautiful.

I am looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.

It all starts when suspicious (has been let down many times in his past and is always looking for an ulterior motive) Nick needs a kidney and a total stranger (not from the registry) offers hers. From there, a tug of war with hormones, chemistry, and different ways of viewing life ensues.

Nick and his mom were so cute in their interactions, and Iris was beautifully open, trusting, and generous- but not annoying or saccharine sweet (which is a common pitfall with this type of character). And I loved how things melded into one at the end. Yes, that's intentionally vague, but you'll see.

This book was full of sweet goodness and quotable moments.

Iris- "If the worst thing about me was that I was too nice, too giving, too caring... I'd wear those labels proudly."

For sweet interactions and the lovely buildup of a relationship that was doomed from the start, this is a fast and enjoyable read with heart. Four stars.

I'm sorry to be in the minority, but I didn't like this book at all. To preface the rest of this review, let me say that I've rarely read a book told in the first person voice that I've enjoyed. Truly, it's probably been a scant handful. That being said, the writing in this book was cringeworthy.

This story was boring, sappy, and the kiss of death, predictable. It was sweet, but the MCs were so melodramatic that I found myself laughing at some moments that the author clearly meant to be poignant. Plus the narrative just told you things, leaving nothing for the reader to discover. I was bored.

The author also hits you over the head with the message again and again. I felt preached to and wasn't happy about it.
I appreciate the lack of OP drama, but this book just wasn't for me.

*** I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ***

Pure Hearts by Jeannie Allison was an emotional read that didn't take long to absorb me into the story. I like the premise of the story I found it interesting and certainly gave me something to think about. It was a heartfelt and poignant story about hope, faith, trust and love.

Nick and Iris where opposite really Iris had a kind soul, saw the good in everything and tried to live her life to the fullest. Nick maybe due to his past not so much don't get me wrong he has a kind soul, but unlike Iris he keeps it guarded. Nick and Iris are perfect for each other. I love the way they help each other to grow as the story progresses.

“She ripped apart my life – in the best way possible – and changed everything I thought I knew.”

“Nothing in this universe was a match for how he made me fell, for how I was starting to feel about him.”

I'm a strong believer in things happen for a reason, and I felt this story reflects that. Loved Nick's mum Catharine and loved what the author did with the prologue and epilogue it added to the story. Loved the extended epilogue a lovely surprise.

Pure Hearts is a book I would recommend. It was a well-written book from both POVs that had the right amount of sexiness, romance and drama. This was my first book by this author, and it won't be my last. I was impressed with her writing style and the flow of the story, and I could tell she had done her research to get the information correct. I'm slightly kicking myself that I have not read one her books sooner therefore looking forward to reading more from Jeannie Allison.

This is my fifth read from this author and every book is so different from the other that you never know what you're going to get. The only thing you will definitely get is a great story.

This one is a sweet slow burn love story. A story that reminds us to see the good in people. That our outlook on life and love is our choice. I loved Iris and her views, I know a real life Iris and she definitely makes my life better. Some people might find her joy annoying but I actually think this is because they're unhappy themselves.

Nick is a character I had to warm to. He definitely had his reasons for being "prickly" but I kinda loved that he had no hope against Iris and her positivity. He had to warm up. The twist in his story is a big one and it definitely adds some angst to this book.

I really enjoyed this story and can't wait to read more from this author.

Pure Hearts by Jeannine Allison was the first book by this author that I read. And I am pretty sure that I will pick up other books from her if their blurb appeals to me. Her writing is well developed and the characters are deeply developed.

Things I knew, Things I guessed and Things I never saw coming. Well my no-spoiler rule does not allow me to give away any of these things. But believe me there would be some stuff I could tell you.

First of all the Plotline in total is intriguing but the reader gets kind of thrown into it at the beginning and it took me a while to catch up on what was actually going on. Maybe that was the purpose otherwise I would have …(spoiler area so not going there)

Our male lead is interesting yet the author designed him a tad irritating too. I could not see where he was coming from at all times because I felt there was some background missing to me that was reveal at later times, maybe a prologue might have helped at that moment.

The female lead was truly PURE maybe also even a tad over the top, I know that was the intention to show a real purness of the heart but it was kind of hart to follow the line of thinking.

I might have seen stuff happening earlier if I hadn’t been paying attention the the wrong character but the storytwist went almost under the radar for how over the top some reactions in this story were. If people live and feel with that kind of intensity there should be the same when things get hard.

But that is only me thinking out loud. In reality the plot is great and I am sure many people will rate this as 5 stars where I am only able to give 4, because in the end what counted for me was… nomatter how pure this story was it did not press all my “emotional buttons”

Still I feel the need to recommend this book to you because it will provide you with several hours of reading pleasure if you are not as fussy as me

’True Hearts’ is a very much a feel good type of read, with a kind of New Adult-ish introspective vibe about the cynic who is inclined call everyone’s action out as self-serving until proven otherwise who goes up against a someone who wholly (or at least habitually) believes in human goodness and sincerity.

And that was where my reservations slid in.

Call that my own cynical self talking here, especially when it begins with the donation of a kidney after what appears like a paranormal ‘sign’ that fates are intertwined—with no expectations thrown into the mix. I found it difficult to accept the very selfless and positive Iris Chamberlain when it was way easier to sympathise with Nick and his understandable behaviour traits knowing what he’d gone through. Iris was, well, surreal in her giving selflessness, when the way she chose to see nothing but good made her more like a saint about to be canonised than a flawed character. But Jeannine Allison makes Iris out to be the exact kind of person that Nick actually needs—at least, a person who is determined to wear down his cynicism—though she stumbled where it really mattered most, or at least where I needed her not to.

Throughout the book, I felt mostly caught between Iris and Nick, never quite able to step out of Nick’s more ‘realistic’ way of perceiving the world as opposed to Iris’s steadfast one-woman stand against Nick’s fatalistic pessimism. In fact, I found myself repetitively questioning Iris’s naïveté, the appalling behaviour of her relatives, and how the characters did nothing but try to turn Nick into a happier version of himself without acknowledging too much that his own perception of the world had merit. That they’d tried to defend their own behaviour, implicitly putting the fault mostly on Nick’s door was quite the last straw for me.

I think the long and short of it is that ‘True Hearts’ is a rose-tinted affirmation of the goodness left in humanity, though it's a simplistic ideal here that I can’t quite buy into.
