An eccentric chocolatier, Willy Wonka, long isolated from his own family, Wonka launches a worldwide contest to select an heir to his candy empire. Five lucky children, including Charlie, a good-hearted boy from a poor family who lives in the shadow of Wonka's extraordinary factory, draw golden tickets from Wonka chocolate bars and win a guided tour of the legendary candy-making facility that no outsider has seen in 15 years. Dazzled by one amazing sight after another, Charlie is drawn into Wonka's fantastic world in this astonishing and enduring story.

It's hard to believe it's been a decade since Tim Burton's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" was released in theaters. Despite initial misgivings from the general public as Warner Brothers launched a compelling marketing campaign that emphasized Burton-esque oddity, box office was strong and sustained, giving the director one of his biggest hits. Sure, nothing can touch the practical wonderland of 1971's "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," boosted by an iconic lead performance from Gene Wilder, but "Charlie" wisely avoided strict imitation, content to embrace author Roald Dahl's cheekiness in its own way, establishing itself as a CGI-laden playground of the bizarre and absurd, with star Johnny Depp pulling off peculiarity in a manner that wasn't as common in 2005.
To celebrate the occasion, Warner Brothers is issuing a "10th Anniversary Edition" Blu-ray, which is solely decorative. Sadly, no retrospective interviews are found on the disc, which carries the exact same supplementary content and audio & visual specs as the previous 2011 release. New to the set is personal message from Tim Burton (which includes a picture of the director wearing a decidedly non-celebratory frown), who shares his thoughts about intent and execution, discussion story additions and tireless work from Deep Roy, who portrayed 165 Oompa-Loompas. A 30-page booklet is also offered, displaying random collages of character photos and movie stills, with a few shots of Burton on-set.
For those who've already purchased the previous release of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," there's no outstanding reason to upgrade here beyond improved cover art and Burton's letter. Discs remain the same, leaving this package more for collectors and newcomers out to add the amusing picture to their library for the first time.
