Defense Grid 2

For the tower defense genre fans, Defense Grid 2 is a rather big deal. After all, it’s the refreshed and upgraded version of the very well received TD game which has annoyed and delighted thousands of players from around the world.

Right off the bat, for those who have played Defense Grid: The Awakening, this new release will not dazzle you with plenty of enhancements and new content. It pretty much follows the same gameplay but with improved graphics, redesigned towers and a few new features to spice things up.

Aesthetically, DG2 looks really good when looking at the big picture. Visual effects, particles, level design and even the new towers are appealing. Although, some will find it a bit disappointing that in most cases, when upgraded, a tower simply changes its color instead of gaining a newer and more aggressive look, or something like that. It would have really made a big difference seeing as how DH2 provides the same towers as in the first title.

DH2 has been gifted with several new features like the boost towers and the possibility to play multiplayer co-op or versus modes but it remains pretty much the same game. This similarity is completely debatable as some will appreciate that the game sticks with its origins and considerably improves an otherwise great game, while others might be upset with the lack of actual innovation.

Defense Grid 2 pretty much works the same. You build towers to protect the cores from being stolen, you get to upgrade your defenses and have plenty of time to plan out your tower placement strategy.

To sum things up, the good overtakes the bad from any angle you look at things. Defense Grid 2 is by all means a solid and well polished tower defense game that can seriously challenge TD newbies and veterans.
