Welcome to 8th grade!!!!!

All 8th grade students will have 7 class periods. ELA, Math, US History, Physical Science, PE, Enrichment Wheel and one chosen elective. Read the elective choices and descriptions below and select your top 4 choices. We will attempt to schedule you into the elective of your choice but need options in case certain classes that are chosen are not offered. We base elective classes on student interest and teacher availability. The core classes are chosen for you based on teacher recommendation, FSA scores and end of year grades. All Advanced Courses will require you to meet the criteria for the course. Students that score Level 1 or 2 on the FSA will be placed in Intensive Reading or Intensive Math. If both Intensive Reading and Intensive Math are required, those classes will replace the elective choice, enrichment wheel or PE.
We are excited to offer the Enrichment Wheel this year. Students will rotate through four 9 weeks long classes designed especially for 8th grade students to introduce our high school academies. Classes will be revealed at a later date.

Courses marked HS will appear on the students High School transcript. Be sure you are willing to commit extra time and effort in these courses.

Art 2D (semester): Two dimensional work and mediums

Art 3D (semester): Three dimensional work and mediums.

Beginning Band (year long): First year, inexperienced players. Course includes mandatory competitions/fees and other required events.

Advanced Band (year long): Experienced band members. Course includes mandatory competitions/fees and other required events.

Broadcast Communication (semester): Morning announcements, podcasts and scrolling annoucements.

Choir (year long): Course includes mandatory competitions/fees and other required events.

Criminal Justice (semester): Explore crime scenes, get an introduction to legal and criminal justice careers.

Beginning French (semester): An introduction to French for everyone.

HS French 1 (year long): 8th grade only. High School course that satisfies one foreign language credit.

MathCounts (year long): Must be in Algebra 1 or Geometry. Do you love math? Enjoy solving problems? This is the class for you. Complete with a math competition team.

Millionaire's Club/Finance (semester): A course that will be used to explore ways to make, keep and save money in the real worlds.

Musical Theater (semester): Acting, stage production and musical theater

HS Personal Fitness (year long): 8th grade only. High School course that replaces middle school PE and satisfies the High School PE requirement.

Rhythm and Bells (semester): There is no experience required to join this fun percussion class. Come and explore the many instruments of the drum line. Drum pad and sticks required.

Beginning Spanish (semester): An introduction to Spanish for everyone. This goes beyond what you learned in the 6th grade wheel class. If you did not take the wheel, this course will be suitable for you.

HS Spanish 1 (year long): 8th grade only. High School course that satisfies one foreign language credit.

HS Technology (year long): 8th grade only. High School technology course teaching programming skills.
