Purpose

The purpose of this Code of Conduct (“agreement”) is to specify what UNSW Hockey Club (UNSWHC) members can expect the club to provide, requirements of members to maintain and grow the club and expected behaviours of club members. The intention is for all members to work collectively to create a future for the club based on the pursuit of player and team excellence and a harmonious and rewarding club culture.

The club aims to provide:
• Coaching by suitably qualified coaches including appropriate and structured training sessions to allow for the optimal development of players and teams in the areas of fitness, skills and strategy.
• A consistent and transparent selection policy based on commitment and performance.
• An environment that is conducive to player development and social interaction.
• A safe environment for all players (junior to senior) to develop their skills. Condemning the use of violence in any form, be it by a spectator, coach, official or player.
• UNSWHC is a child friendly organisation.

Member Duties and Obligations

Financial:
• All players are responsible for ensuring that they are financially able to meet fee requirements for each season (special considerations are available on a case by case basis as subject by the UNSWHC Treasurer).
• All players acknowledge that as soon as they step onto the turf for an association-sanctioned game of hockey, they have committed themselves to paying fees for the full season.
• No pay, No play.
• New players are to be financially free from their old clubs prior to stepping on the pitch for UNSWHC (you must produce a clearance to UNSWHC secretary).

Volunteering:
• All players and/or families are expected to contribute to club life though volunteering opportunity such as canteen duty, meat raffles, helping on the door at club functions etc. over the course of a season.
• Once selected in a team each player is then ht for canteen duty as per the canteen roster; failure to do so (including no shows) will result in financial penalty for your team.
• Recognise the effort put in by club volunteers and the importance of what they do for the club.

Coaching & Training:
• All players are expected to train on a regular basis and inform coaches/captain when cannot make training or are unavailable for a game in a timely manner so that alternate players can be arranged if required. No training – no apology – no game selection.
• Listen and respect UNSWHC coaches, any disputes should be raised through the team captain.
• Communicate clearly to coaches about you goals for the season.
• Recognise that people learn differently and coaches may adapt their training plan to each player’s needs.
•       By registering to play hockey for UNSWHC, you will give preference to the club if there is a clash with school sport. This commitment will ensure a strong and stable competition within the Sydney East Hockey Association and continuity of the Club team you represent.

On the Pitch:
• Play within the Australian Hockey Association (AHA) rules and display sportsmanship.
• Wear the required equipment at all games and practices, and keep your equipment well maintained; failure to do so will negate UNSWHC insurance liability.
• Have respect for other players, coaches, officials and grounds (this includes never arguing with an umpire, all queries to the umpire should go through the captain or the coach). No taunting, booing, use of foul language or making negative comments about any players, coaches, referees, and spectators. Any participant responsible for any damage will assume full financial and legal responsibility for any damages ensued.
• Notify your coach or captain of any injuries incurred before/during a game so that they can be assessed and reported appropriately.
• Any player sent off for the abuse of an umpire, or any other action that would bring the clubs name into disrepute will become ineligible for any club awards for that season, and further penalties may apply.

Off the Pitch:
• Obliged never to commit, excuse or remain silent about any acts of violence or harassment against other players/members/associates. A formal disputes/notification process is available through appropriate club channels (see UNSWHC website).
• There will be no possession or use of alcohol by anyone under the age of 18 years old, or by anyone if prohibited by the host site. Any player whose alcohol consumption causes misconduct in the form of unsafe behaviour for themselves and others can, and will, risk loss of membership with the UNSWHC.
• There will be no possession or use of any banned substance or illicit drugs. Any player caught in the possession or under the influence can, and will, risk loss of membership with the UNSWHC. Documentation is required for players under a physician’s care requiring medication for treatment.
• Adhere to all club policies (see UNSWHC website).
• Clean up after themselves, ensuring grounds, dugouts and change rooms are left in a clean state.
• Remember that sports should be about having fun


Breaches of Agreement/Code

Breaches of this agreement may result in:
1. Participant(s) responsible for property loss/damage being liable to pay all replacement/repair costs.
2. Loss of opportunity to participate in future programs conducted under the direction of the UNSWHC (i.e. Clinics, University Games and Tryouts).
3. Partial or full restriction to access the property (i.e. home or away field)
4. Suspension or Expulsion from the club.
5. Other course of action based on the nature of the offence as decided by the Disciplinary Panel (e.g. Umpire abuse requires offending player to attend umpiring course at own cost).

It is understood that by registering with UNSWHC, players, parents and coaches are all bound by this agreement and its validity is hereby a matter of record and is not dependent upon physical signature. All suspension or expulsion decisions made by the officials are final and are not subject to review.

1. All violations shall be reported as soon as possible to the UNSWHC Secretary.
2. Upon notification of an agreement violation, the UNSWHC Committee will appoint members to a Disciplinary Panel which will be responsible for holding a hearing with the member(s) involved.
3. The UNSWHC Disciplinary Panel shall have the authority to enforce any of the above listed consequences, notifying the member(s) within at least 24 hours of the hearing.
4. A recommendation by the Disciplinary Panel that the member(s) be restricted from future association with the UNSWHC must be submitted in writing to the UNSWHC Committee, which shall make the final decision.
5. The participant shall have the right to appeal a decision by the UNSWHC Committee in accordance with the Bylaws of the UNSWHC (except for suspension or expulsion decisions which are final).

Please note that the UNSWHC will deal with unacceptable conduct at its sole discretion, imposing warnings, suspension or expulsion, as it deems appropriate. ANY SUSPENSION OR EXPULSION BASED ON VIOLATIONS OF THE CODE OF CONDUCT WILL NOT BE ACCOMPANIED BY A REFUND.

UNSW Duty of Care

UNSWHC expects all participants in club events to take responsibility for their own safety by observing instructions, rules and guidelines, by wearing compulsory hockey safety equipment and by behaving in a safe and responsible manner towards other participants, officials, property and grounds. By ticking below you are acknowledging that by participating in UNSWHC activities you are participating at your own risk and may suffer injuries or loss (including financial loss) and damage as result of your participation in these hockey activities whether at training or in actual events.
We appreciate you commitment to YOUR hockey club.  With the active participation of all members, we will work to ensure a viable & sustainable future.

1. UNSW Hockey Club is a volunteer organisation that administers and convenes hockey activities in which players, family members, spectators, convenors, umpires, and others participate.
2. The game of hockey is a recreational activity carrying evident risks of injury to participants and all others within the field of play.
3. The game of hockey is a recreational activity that involves risks not only to participants but also to spectators, and bystanders.
4. Risk to persons outside the field relate not only, but in particular, to the hockey ball being propelled at speed which can occur outside the hockey field.
5. UNSW Hockey Club expects all players to minimise risks by wearing appropriate safety attire, by complying with all rules and guidelines, and by safe and responsible behaviour.
6. UNSW Hockey club expects all other persons around the field to minimise their risks by utilising the protective netting and being vigilant with regard to the flight of the ball.viable & sustainable future.
