Independent Travel is used to save YOU time.

Independent Travel allows you to coordinate your travel to a training, from a training, or BOTH.  

You will be eligible for reimbursement up to, but not exceeding, what the USNA would have paid to transport you between the Yard and your training. If we offer ground transportation to and/or from your training event (i.e. less than an 8 hour drive away), then you will NOT be eligible for reimbursement of travel expenses, but you MAY still request independent travel.
 
All independent travel requests are due by May 1st, with the exception of requests to independently travel to/from SURF/SUB/AIR cruises.

If you’re requesting independent travel to a SURF/SUB/AIR cruise, then you cannot submit a request until the location and embark dates are populated in MIDS (typically 3 weeks before the start of a training block). These requests are due NLT 14 days before embarkation.

If USNA has already purchased a plane ticket for you, independent travel will most likely not be authorized. It is important to get your preference in as soon as your cruise location is assigned.

Summer training travel office only provides orders for fleet cruises/events and/or military training, your travel for internships, IPO, Group 5 PTEs, etc. still needs to be coordinated with those respective organizations.

You will not be reimbursed for canceled/changed training plans – so purchase refundable tickets!
