Today I become a Boys & Girls Club alum. In signing this document, my role shifts from member to alum; from mentee to mentor; to volunteer and advocate. In being recognized as an alum of Boys & Girls Club, I am acknowledging a series of facts:
1. I have been impacted in a meaningful way through my experience at the Club and the opportunities I received.
2.I understand that I was fortunate to have access to a Boys & Girls Club, and there are millions of youth across the country who could benefit that do not currently have access to a Club.
These statements are of paramount importance for alumni to understand. As an alum, I now have responsibilities to the Club that differ in many aspects from what my responsibilities have been in the past. However, there are still a number of responsibilities that remain from my time as a Club member. These responsibilities are as follows:
1.I understand that everywhere I go, I am representing myself, my family and the Boys & Girls Club, and how I conduct myself should be an honorable reflection.
2.I will be a productive citizen, always looking for ways to make a positive impact and serve my community.
3.I will be an advocate for kids and teens, activating my voice and supporting youth in my community. I will pay it forward either by: spreading the word about the importance of the Club; introducing professionals in my community to the Club; or support the Club with donations of money or time volunteering.
4.I will always keep Boys & Girls Club close to my heart.I will do my best to come home and give back to the community that gave to me when I needed it most. Wherever life’s journey may take me, I will find a Club and know that it’s home.
In signing this document, I recognize that I am a Member for life.
I understand my new role as an alum of Boys & Girls Club, and I will do my best to honor by the guidelines outlined in the Alumni oath.
