HEEDING THE CALL

The 40th Annual Wisconsin Lakes Partnership Convention and Water Action Volunteer Symposium will be held April 18-20, 2018 in Stevens Point, WI. On Friday April 20th we will be joined by the Midwest Great Lakes Chapter of the Society for Ecological Restoration at their annual conference (April 20-22).

Presentation submissions should address the broad theme of "Heeding the Call" - Keeping Ecological Restoration in Mind. As you prepare your description, please include how this discussion can be applied to the overall watershed area - not just lakes.

Fisheries Ecology - Understanding and managing our lakes and rivers fisheries; Restoration ecology - how restorative ecology works for all, plants and animlas.

People and Policy - Organizational capacity building, water law; The economics of water - understanding the economic value of water to communities, real estate and recreation.

Long Term Lake Research & Citizen Science- Findings from multi-decadal research projects and management implications (presentations in this stream should focus on outcomes of data collection rather than data collection methods); Citizen science projects related to water resources (presentations should focus on the use of citizen data for management decisions or research projects).

Watershed Connections and Water Quality - Introductory overviews of watersheds and the relationships of watershed components, high impact watershed management strategies, case examples of the challenges and successes of managing watersheds in the Wisconsin landscape; Restoration on ag lands, exploring water quality best management practices in various agricultural settings.

Waterway Restorations - Examples of improved water quality & habitat projects, engaging citizens & lake communities, erosion and stormwater control, aquatic plant management/woody habitat and healthier water ecosystems; Physical restoration projects on streams, rivers or lakes.
