Be About It is the story of two fathers, two families, and their battle against a potentially deadly disease impacting the Asian American Community. Both Alan and AJ contracted hepatitis B (Hep B) at birth. Hep B, caused by the hepatitis B virus, can result in serious liver problems before symptoms become noticeable and is frequently referred to as a "silent killer".
This movie is the jumping off point for new hepatitis B prevention and outreach efforts throughout Alameda County. The film will be followed by a facilitated discussion, with featured guest Alan Wang (Emmy award-winning Chinese-American journalist), members of The Hep B Project at UC Berkeley, and other public health professionals to determine realistic strategies to help increase awareness of hepatitis B disease, prevent future cases through vaccination, and link to care those who are chronically infected.
This event is open to health care providers-including physicians, nurses, health educators – and all community members who are interested in hepatitis B. This is an awareness effort aimed to end the silence associated with hepatitis B by empowering people to talk openly about the virus and by motivating communities to learn the facts and collaborate together to tackle hepatitis B.
