Over the years we have found that parents at Shaarei Shamayim have different expectations for the level of supervision for child care, and we have thought carefully about how to structure it to accommodate our community’s diverse needs.  We hope that even if it is not exactly as you wish that you will still abide by our rules. Our goals are to keep our children safe, respect the policies of the First Unitarian Society, and provide meaningful activities for children over the holidays. Please read these policies carefully. Our child care program spans ages 2-12. Parents of younger children are welcome to bring them to the childcare space at First Unitarian Society and stay with them; we cannot accept responsibility for the care of children under 2. A pre-teen lounge will be organized for children ages 9-12. Please contact the office regarding teen programming. Pre-registration for child care is REQUIRED. It is impossible to properly organize child care if we do not know how many children will be with us. If parents do not pre-register, and there are spots still open after the conclusion of the children’s service, they can sign up and be billed later. Please note: Parents who have not registered their children are welcome to stay with them in the child care space and be responsible for their own supervision. No children – regardless of their age – are permitted to roam the building unsupervised. This is the First Unitarian Society’s policy, and it is non-negotiable. Children who are not enrolled in childcare but who would like to talk quietly outside of services are welcome to sit in the pre-teen lounge. Parents who would like to take their children out of childcare during the service, even for a short time, must sign them out. We will have babysitters who can walk children up to services if they would like to find their parents.Children under the age of seven must be accompanied by a parent to children's services; parents should pick them up in child care and walk with them there. Snacks will be provided, but children will need to bring a dairy/vegetarian sack lunch. We are not allowed to use the playground on weekdays because the Meeting House preschool is in session. We are welcome to use it at all other times. *
