8th Grade Mathematics Honors
8th Grade Mathematics Honors (1.0) (8130A-semester 1, 8130B-semester2)
Prerequisite: 7th Grade Mathematics
In 8th Grade Mathematics Honors students will focus on formulating and reasoning about expressions and equations, including modeling an association in bivariate data with a linear equation, and solving linear equations and systems of linear equations; 17 grasping the concept of a function and using functions to describe quantitative relationships; and analyzing two- and three dimensional space and figures using distance, angle, similarity, and congruence, and understanding and applying the Pythagorean Theorem. The Honors course includes extra depth and additional topics such as: 3-D graphing and graph theory, fair division and apportionment, sets, and voting theory.

Review the course descriptions for the 8th Grade Mathematics Honors class. This is available on ELA’s webpage and in the description above. A separate application is required for each honors class you intend to take. Complete the student’s portion of this form (hard copy) and then submit to the appropriate teacher, and fill out this form online. Applying for an honors class does not guarantee you will be scheduled in that class. ELA reserves the right to determine the best placement for each student’s success.
The requirements for students to move from a regular math level to an honor's math level are as follows:
Minimum 3.75 GPA in math classes (no more than 1 "B" grade a year)
Score of 85% or better on the end-of-level test (curved according to class)
