Welcome to Sunapee Athletics
MISSION STATEMENT

We believe that athletics is an extension of the classroom.  The athletic program will promote athletic endeavors which will instill within the athlete a sense of accomplishment, integrity and good sportsmanship; and in the student body and the community of Sunapee a feeling of pride.

Dear Parents or Guardians:

Your child is participating in the Athletic Program at Sunapee Middle High School. We hope it will be an enjoyable and worthwhile experience.  Interscholastic athletics is a completely voluntary program.  Students are not obligated to be a part of the athletic program.  Participation is not a requirement for graduation.  However, those who do participate are expected to give extra effort and time.  Because interscholastic athletics are voluntary and because those participating represent their student bodies, the standards for the athletes are high.  This is especially true of academic requirements, school citizenship and sportsmanship.  The identity of the school is often reflected through interscholastic athletics.  We expect that the students who have the privilege of representing the school uphold all of the standards set forth in the athletic handbook.  Parents also provide an important role in this area, and therefore should be aware of our athletic policies which apply to all of our student athletes.

It is important for athletes and their parents/guardians to realize that, in addition to minor bumps and bruises, there exists the potential for severe and debilitating injury in the playing and practicing of all sports at all levels of competition.  This, of course, is minimized when correct technique and proper skills are used.

Toward that end, SMHS endeavors to employ coaches with a knowledge and interest in their particular program who are well informed and committed to the safety of the athletes.  Each coach will be happy to provide you with more information regarding individual programs.  You are encouraged, if and when you have a question with respect to any injury, to contact the athletic director at 763-5615.  The athletic director will be happy to provide answers to your questions or to refer you to someone who can.

Please be assured that this notice is not an attempt to alarm you or discourage your child from participating in athletic programs, but to make you aware that injuries do occur.  If you have any questions regarding the athletic programs at SMHS, please call Thomas Frederick at 763-5615.

Schedules for practice and games can be found on the school’s website at sunapeeathletics.org.  Coaches will make every effort to keep this website updated.  We are looking forward to this year’s athletic schedule and hope to make the experience that your son or daughter has with Sunapee athletics a positive and memorable one.

Please feel free to call or email me with any questions, concerns or ideas that you may have.

Sincerely,

Thomas H. Frederick
Athletic Director
