Partial Federal Shutdown Storybank
During the government shutdown from December 21st - January 25th people shared their stories of how the shutdown impacted and continues to impact themselves, their families, and their communities. HBO VICE  (https://goo.gl/aw4G9Tr) and the Washington Post (https://goo.gl/NzNaaz) both featured MA SNAP participants in powerful stories about the effect of the shutdown.

There is now potential for another shutdown beginning on February 15th, which could cause further harm to people in MA. Although we fully expect SNAP households to receive SNAP benefits in early March, if a second shutdown goes into effect, this could cause further harm to people in MA in April or May.

This form is intended to gather stories from individuals and families directly impacted by the shutdown, either as furloughed workers or participants in SNAP, and service providers in Massachusetts. In addition, it would be helpful to know how the early issuance of the February benefit (issued on January 16-17) has impacted families and individuals for the month of February, especially the last two weeks of February and in light of Feb school vacation week. For example, how the shutdown has impacted low-income household's ability to manage the household food budgets and confidence in government?.

As media reach out for stories, we will use the entries gathered here to connect reporters with individuals and providers willing to share their experiences with the media. We will reach out to you before sharing your information with reporters. The stories collected here may also be shared for advocacy purposes with members of Congress, administrative offices, and state and local officials. You may select how you would like your information to be used and we will only use your story in the manner you agree to in this form.
