2018-19 Community Opus Project's Registration  Interest List for Beginners
Dear Beginner Interest List families,

On behalf of the Opus Team, we would like to sincerely thank you for your interest in our program.

The SDYS Community Opus Project partners with the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) to work together to address the needs of their students. SDYS is proud to work with CVESD to create relevant programming and support their commitment to restoring high quality visual and performing arts programming in the school day.

Moving forward, the SDYS Community Opus Project will no longer be offering the beginner Esperanza Band and Strings program. Only students with relevant musical experience on an eligible instrument will qualify to join the Community Opus Project. CVESD now has multiple art forms being taught at every school, including 32 schools with beginning music programs that can feed into both Opus and middle school programs. As the school district continues to restore and improve its music education programs in the school day, the Community Opus Project will shift its primary focus to higher level music learning and supplemental programs that support the development of CVESD programs.

If your child's school doesn't yet have in-school music, we encourage families to come together and advocate for their school's music program by speaking to your principal or your Parent Teacher Association.

Alternatively, the San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory now offers beginner programs in the weekend Conservatory program at Balboa Park and will open registration for the 2019-2020 season in late spring. For more information, please see our website.
